  • In this episode, we dive into a topic that can be both incredibly challenging and also deeply healing – navigating relationships with our parents. This is a topic that many childhood trauma survivors struggle with, especially when we have grown up in environments where our boundaries and our needs weren't respected or even acknowledged. Here, we unpack how to relate to dysfunctional parents and how to navigate these challenging parent-child dynamics. We explore how to protect and advocate for your inner child, whilst also balancing the needs of your healthy adult self. I offer some practical tips for setting and enforcing boundaries, and look at managing expectations with parents and practicing acceptance. And finally, for those of you who may be considering it, we'll be wrapping up this episode by discussing when and how to go no contact.

  • In this episode, we dive into the complex world of relationships, focusing on how trauma can shape and challenge our connections with others and discuss everything from disorganised attachment to dissociation during conflict. For those of us who’ve experienced childhood trauma, these early disruptions — like attachment wounds, abandonment, rejection, emotional neglect, and abuse — can make navigating relationships particularly tough. By the end of this episode, I hope you come away with some clarity and insights on how to form and maintain healthier relationships.

    Themes explored

Disorganised attachment & other insecure attachment styles How trauma impacts relationships i.e. fear of intimacy, vulnerability and connection Reenacting dysfunctional cycles i.e. choosing relationships/partners that mirror our early childhood trauma dynamics, self-sabotaging healthy relationships Navigating triggers, conflict, shutting down and dissociation within relational conflict and intimacy How somatic therapy can support you in healing attachment and relational wounds

"Soma" is the Greek word for body, and somatic therapy refers to a range of body-based therapeutic approaches. Unlike traditional talk therapy, somatic therapy emphasises the mind-body connection, acknowledging that trauma is often stored within the body. This episode explores how somatic therapy (and its interventions such as mindfulness and nervous system regulation) can play a crucial role in healing trauma and supporting your overall wellbeing. Tune in to discover what somatic therapy looks like in practice and how it can help you on your healing journey.

In this episode, we're talking about coregulation — basically, the building block for self-regulation. To manage our emotions and behaviours, we first need to learn how to do it with the help of someone else, which is what coregulation is all about. Unfortunately, if you’ve experienced childhood trauma, you might not have had this chance growing up. That's where therapy comes in — it's a great way to experience that connection and start building those skills in a safe, supportive environment.

This episode explores resources through a decolonised lens. Resources can include self-regulation skills as well as people, places and things that we can access to support ourselves along our journey towards healing.

Decolonised practices and resources can help to cut through the mental maze we get caught up in through overanalysing and can help us resist the systems that keep us disempowered, separate and unwell.

    Topics explored:

Decolonising our mentality towards mainstream approaches to mental health and viewing wellness through a holistic lens.

Cyclical and symbiotic living in sync with our natural rhythms and the importance of slowing down.

Somatic practices – practical resources that can support with emotional regulation.

Co regulation and how our nervous systems are hardwired to engage with each other, animals and nature.

Rituals to create meaning, intentionality and connectedness in our daily lives.
