After graduating in Science and Physics with Chemical giants ICI, he left the security of this large company and moved into Government Service and later the Police Service. He has investigated reports of spontaneous paranormal activity since 1989 and is a member of the SPR and ASSAP. He is the Case Manager and Lead Investigator for Paranormal Investigation UK operating a small team of psychical researchers. He is currently jointly working with the SPR investigating a high end live poltergeist case in Essex including the apports of over 460 coins into the property.

Callum is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), holding postgraduate degrees in psychology, social science research methods and education, from the University of Northampton, Sheffield Hallam University and Manchester Metropolitan University. He has a long time association with the University of Northampton, and is based there as a senior lecturer in psychology, delivering classes and conducting research on Death and Bereavement, Positive Psychology, Human Sexual Behaviour, Parapsychology, and Research Methods.
He holds numerous grants and awards in parapsychology including the Eileen J. Garrett Scholarship (Parapsychology Foundation, 2009), the Alex Tanous Scholarship Award (Alex Tanous Foundation for Scientific Research, numerous, since 2011), the Gertrude R. Schmeidler Award (Parapsychological Association, 2014), and a 2018 nominee for the Ockham's Razor Award for Skeptical Activism (The Skeptic Magazine and QEDcon) among other awards.

Originally constructed by Captain Powell, a wartime surgeon, the home was believed to carry a curse from its inception. Shortly after its completion, misfortune plagued the captain: bankruptcy, the loss of children to disease, and eventually, his own descent into madness. Passing through various owners, the mansion eventually came into the possession of its most illustrious inhabitant, Adelina Patti, the renowned opera singer from Madrid.
After Adelina's demise within its walls, the once grand residence was repurposed as a tuberculosis hospital from the 1920s to the 1950s, witnessing further tragedies and the emergence of numerous resident spirits.
Throughout its existence, Craig Y Nos Castle has amassed a collection of ghostly tales and haunted legends.

Kev has been researching the paranormal since a very young age. Then, in 2010, he started getting involved more heavily in practical investigation as he felt that the research within the field didn’t seem to be pushing forward. He realised that a lot of methods were stagnant or going in the wrong direction and, as a result, has been working alongside various groups and investigators to help improve the quality of research and investigations being undertaken. From 2013 to 2020 he founded the website and blog ParaRationalise which worked to further individuals’ understanding of the paranormal. After a 3 year sabbatical from the paranormal field Kev is back and actively promoting an ethical and scientific approach to investigation through his social media, Tik Toks, conference talks and various podcasts and radio shows.

Ellen Hayward was born in 1838 at Arlingham on the east bank of the Severn in Gloucestershire.
By 1901, Ellen had given up dressmaking and named her occupation on the census as a herbalist. Over the following years she became well known locally as a ‘wise woman’ and a trusted source of herbal remedies. This was a fine line for her to tread as ‘wise’ men and women, or ‘cunning folk’ as they were also known, carried with them an aura of magic and spells, even in the early 20th century. It was this aspect which brought her to public attention (and to the notice of Parliament) when in 1905 a local man named John Markey accused her of practising witchcraft on his family. In May 1906, Cinderford ‘wise woman’ and herbal healer Ellen Hayward was tried for witchcraft at Littledean Magistrates Court in the Forest of Dean.
My Special Guest Is Rachel Hayward
Rachel grew up on the River Thames at Cookham Lock where her father was a Lock Keeper for nearly 30 years. Not only was this a unique experience but the house itself was haunted and was the topic of her book The Lock House Haunting.
When she moved to Gloucestershire in the early 1990s it was not long before she became involved in the Paranormal again and as a result formed the team ROPE (Researchers of Paranormal Events. )
Ellen Hayward
Ellen worked with her mother as a dressmaker and, after the deaths of her parents, lived with one of her brothers. Over the next several years Ellen bore three illegitimate children, the first, James, in 1862 when she was 24, the second, Edward, in 1871 and the third, Ruth, in 1875. There is no information about the father or fathers of any of the children bar Ellen’s application seeking support for Edward from one Edwin Hayward (no relation), also of Arlingham. The application was unsuccessful on the basis of ‘a lack of corroborative testimony’, that is, he denied it. Ellen’s story is one of difficulty and triumph, resilience and strength in the face of hardships.

Quantum physics is a branch of physics that studies the behaviour of matter and energy at the smallest scales, involving particles such as atoms and subatomic particles.Some speculate a connection between quantum physics and anomalous phenomena, suggesting that the nature of reality at the quantum level might influence or explain inexplicable occurrences. It introduces principles like superposition and entanglement, challenging classical notions.
Superposition:In quantum mechanics, particles like electrons can exist in multiple states simultaneously, known as superposition. For example, an electron can exist in multiple positions or spin states at the same time until a measurement is made, collapsing the superposition to a single state.
Some propose that superposition could have implications for unexplained phenomena, suggesting that certain events might involve simultaneous, coexisting states or possibilities. However, establishing a concrete link remains speculative.
Entanglement: When two or more particles become entangled, the state of one particle instantaneously influences the state of the other, regardless of the distance between them. This phenomenon violates classical notions of locality and implies a form of instantaneous connection between entangled particles.

Farleigh Hungerford Castle, once a symbol of chivalric might, conceals within its shattered walls a tapestry of gruesome events and tragic tales. Picture a castle built in 1380, its turrets standing proud under the stewardship of Sir Thomas Hungerford, the First Speaker of the House of Commons.
But as the Wars of the Roses unfolded, disaster struck the Hungerford family, and the castle passed through the hands of kings and traitors alike. It witnessed a Lady imprisoned in the eerie Lady Tower, accused of unspeakable crimes, and a Lord beheaded for treachery and sorcery.
Anthropoid Coffins
In the crypt beneath the marvellous castle chapel are eight sinister-looking lead caskets. Known technically as anthropoid coffins, they contain the remains of Sir Edward Hungerford III (d.1648) and the family of his successor, Sir Edward Hungerford IV (the ‘Spendthrift’), who had to sell Farleigh in 1686.
These coffins contain embalmed bodies, pickled in spirit, and their body-shaped forms enabled the physical remains to be kept together after death, and preserved intact, ready for resurrection at the sounding of the Last Trumpet.

My Special Guest Is Michelle Carlos Eire Carlos Eire was born in Havana in 1950 and came to the U.S. in 1962 without his parents, as one of the 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban refugee children ferried to Miami by the Pedro Pan airlift. After living in various foster homes for three and a half years, he reunited with his mother in Chicago, where he worked full-time jobs while attending high school and college. His father was never allowed to leave the island and died without ever seeing his family again.
He is now the T. L. Riggs Professor of History and Religious Studies at Yale University, and he specialises in the social, intellectual, religious, and cultural history of late medieval and early modern Europe, with a focus on both the Protestant and Catholic Reformations; the history of popular piety; and the history of the supernatural, and the history of death. The ancient Egyptians held a steadfast belief in an afterlife that transcended the confines of disappointment, loss, and distress. Contrary to the notion of "you can't take it with you," the prevailing perspective for much of Egyptian history was encapsulated by the sentiment "you keep it forever." The enduring concept envisioned a paradise, The Field of Reeds, on the other side of death—a continuation of earthly life, yet free from the shackles of sorrow. This profound view, while subject to fluctuations across different eras, remained remarkably constant. The paradise beyond was a sanctuary where all that was lost in the mortal realm could be rediscovered.
Coinciding with this vision of the afterlife was an unwavering understanding of disembodied spirits—ghosts. Unlike the evolving perceptions of the afterlife, the belief in ghosts persisted unchanged from the earliest evidence throughout ancient Egyptian history. Ghosts were considered as tangible and authentic as any other facet of existence, a testament to the enduring and deeply rooted spiritual convictions of the ancient Egyptians.

Michelle is a Historian & Writer from Liverpool UK. She has a background in Egyptology and her talks and writing focus on the reception of ancient Egypt during the Victorian era (commonly referred to as ‘egyptomania’). Her main research areas cover Egyptian revival graves in Victorian England and the life of Egyptologist and Architect, Joseph Bonomi Jr.
Harmony Beyond the Veil: Ma'at and the Imperative of Proper Burial
Central to Egyptian culture was the sacred principle of ma'at, an intricate dance of harmony and balance woven into the fabric of everyday life. Among the myriad expressions of ma'at, the proper burial of the deceased held particular significance. Egyptians perceived life as a unidirectional journey, commencing at birth and culminating in the afterlife. To ensure the soul's tranquil transition, meticulous provisions were made through tomb paintings, inscriptions, and statuary. These artefacts served as a spiritual tether, inviting the soul to benignly revisit the earthly realm while urging the spirit to hasten its departure to the afterlife.
However, the appearance of a ghost, especially its interaction with the living, signalled a disruption in the natural order. This disturbance typically stemmed from a spirit's discontent with its body's burial, the condition of the tomb, or a perceived lack of respectful remembrance. Ghostly visitations were viewed as a tangible manifestation of imbalance, compelling the living to rectify the disturbances and restore ma'at, ensuring both the departed and the living coexisted in harmonious accord.

My Special Guest Is Merrick Burrow
Merrick Burrow is an academic and literary scholar, mainly focusing on 19th and early 20th Century literature and culture. He has a long-standing interest in Victorian and Edwardian popular fiction (adventure stories, detective fiction, gothic, scientific romance, spy thrillers, etc.) and especially the ways that these cultural forms show societies adapting to the emergence of new technologies. More recently, this has developed into an examination of the theme of deception culture since the early 19th century. Important to Merrick’s research is the idea that modernity is driven by a desire for enlightenment, which supports scientific discovery and the production of new technologies. But these technologies, he argues, have always been haunted by the possibility that they may become tools of deception.
Arthur Conan Doyle
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a literary luminary of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, left an indelible mark on the world as the ingenious mind behind the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh in 1859, Doyle's prolific career spanned beyond mystery fiction into the realms of science fiction, historical novels, and non-fiction. A physician by training, he blended scientific inquiry with a keen sense of storytelling, creating characters that transcended the pages of his novels. Despite Holmes's towering legacy, Doyle's life was a tapestry of multifaceted interests, including spiritualism and public service.

The Peoria State Hospital was, from the very beginning, built to be an institution unlike anything else of its kind. Opened in 1902, the Peoria State Hospital was initiated by the work of the Peoria Women’s League, who had seen the kinds of “treatments” that were being used to treat the mentally ill at the time. They knew there had to be a better way to house and help these people. Joining me to explore the haunting history of the hospital is Sylvia Shults as we explore the hospital, some of the paranormal reports and the story of Rhoda Derry whose grave epitaph reads: “They built this place of asylum so that no other human would suffer as you. You taught us to love and feel compassion toward the less fortunate. May you find peace and warmth in God’s arms.”

Doctor Zeller
Opened under the name “Illinois Asylum for the Incurable Insane,” Dr. Zeller petitioned to have the name changed to "Illinois General Hospital" and later changed to “Peoria State Hospital” as he did not believe anyone to be “incurable.” Dr. Zeller wanted to run a new kind of institution which treated people with mental illnesses humanely. He took all of the bars off the doors and windows, removed all types of restraint, and instituted new, holistic types of therapies. Dr. Zeller was considered mad for refusing to lock his patients up or tie them to beds, but his open-door policy meant his patients were treated with human kindness and empathy.

As twilight veiled the expansive beach, a nervous young man, poised for a night of fishing with a friend, encountered an inexplicable sight in the waters. Whispers and speculations arose among locals about mystical forces or hidden creatures beneath the surface. The eerie events became a captivating enigma, woven into the rich tapestry of Cornwall's maritime folklore.
