This is the latest episode of a series I started a couple of months ago about great quotes from an outstanding book called "Organize Your Team Today," by Dr. Jason Selk and Tom Bartow. I learned so much from this book, and you will, too. I highly recommend you pick it up. You can also find it under the title, "Lead Any Team to Win."
Last week, I talked about Chapter 5 - "It's Okay to Disagree: Just Don't Be Disagreeable." This week we move to a chapter on something ALL of us have to work on at some point in our lives and at some point with our teams - Developing a No-Victim Mentality. Oh my, are you drooling at the concept of how to keep the victim mentality from hijacking your team? Get ready - you're gonna' love this one!For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

Last week, I talked about the second half of Chapter 4 - "Turning Team Chemistry into Team Cohesion." Today, we move to Chapter 5 - "It's Okay to Disagree: Just Don't Be Disagreeable." This became the longest episode of the series so far, but that's because there is so much good stuff in this chapter. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

Last week, I talked about the first half of Chapter 4 - "Turning Team Chemistry into Team Cohesion." There was so much good stuff in this chapter that I had to split it into two parts. So, today you get Part 2 of Chapter 4. In this chapter, they talk about two important ways to create successful Team Cohesion: The Point and Flow. I have been a strong proponent of both of these concepts throughout my coaching career, and I hadn't even read the book yet!For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

You're going to love the concepts in this one! In fact, there are so many great ideas in this chapter, that I had to cover it all in two episodes instead of one. You will hear the second part of this chapter either in a bonus episode later this week or in next Monday's episode. Stay tuned to find out when Part 2 drops. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

Last week, I talked about Chapter 1, "Channel Capacity: Why Less is More," in which we heard about the importance of not overloading your team (and yourself) with too much at a time. This week we move to Chapter 2, "Managing Expectations: Trust or Suspicion." There is so much great stuff in this chapter because the concept of trust is such an integral element to any great team experience. I don't remember the first time I ever heard this quote, but it was one of those that stopped me in my tracks and got me thinking, trying to figure out exactly what it meant. I have used it ever since then as a great message for young people (and old people, too) to not get so caught up in comparing themselves to others, yet to use comparison as a means to drive yourself to become the best you that you can become.

The catalyst for today's quote is the off-season that my team is currently in. As a basketball coach, I often tell players that basketball players are not made from November to March; they are made from March to November. (Maybe that's a quote I should talk about in the future!)
Of course, what I'm talking about when I say that is that players must put in time in the off-season to becoming better players. But we also talk about the idea that you don't just "put in time." You need to make sure that you maximize the time you are putting in by working extremely hard at what you need to work on to grow, develop, and improve.
This quote comes to us from Bruce Brown, the director of Proactive Coaching. As you probably know, I am one of the members of the Proactive Coaching speaking team. I first heard this line about 20 years ago when I heard Bruce give our "7 Ways to Lead" presentation. Since 2008 (when I joined the speaking team), I have been saying this line whenever I give that talk or whenever I do our "Captains & Coaches Workshop."
It is a great line about the impact that those who are committed to your programs have on those who are not as committed. You're going to love this one, and you're going to want to use it with your teams. . . immediately! For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

Today's quote comes to us from the Easter Sunday church service I went to yesterday. For those of you who aren't Christian or who are not people of faith, this is not a religion-focused episode or anything along the lines. I'm talking about a great quote that our Pastor, Shad Durgan, said in his sermon that can be applied to all of us in much more than just a religious context. He was talking about what true greatness is and where you find it. You will see how fitting it is for those of us who lead teams and who are trying to get our team members to live with a servant's team-first attitude.

As we have done for the last couple of weeks, today I am bringing you another replay of a popular episode. In fact, today's episode is THE MOST DOWNLOADED EPISODE out of all of the episodes Ihave done.
Today you will hear from my long-time dearest friend in the world, Coach Bob Kuykendall. Bob is an English teacher and Head Wrestling Coach at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois. He and I taught and coached together there right out of college for eleven years. Then I moved to Montana, but Bob stayed at Carmel, and he has spent his entire 42-year career there!
In this episode, we talk about a quote that he has used in his English classes and with his wrestling team for most of those 42 years. You're in for a real treat here. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

As I told you last week, over the next few weeks I am bringing you replays of popular episodes. I have some personal and professional matters that are taking up a lot of my time, and I am headed to Mexico on spring break this week, so I thought I would just let you listen to some of the more popular episodes of the show over these next few weeks.
Today you will hear one of my absolute favorite episodes. It was episode 31, which was my interview with Alan Stein, Jr. If you don't know who Alan Stein, Jr. is, look him up on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, or check out his website - alansteinjr.com.
One of the cool things about Alan's quote is that it was Alan's quote! That's right - the quote that we talked about is his own quote, one that has been very popular with many coaches and teams across the nation. (Check out where the quote is emblazoned on a wall for everyone to see when they visit this place.)
Next week, I'll have another replay of a favorite episode. Until then, enjoy my interview from a few years ago with Alan Stein, Jr!For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

Today you will hear the very first episode of the show. Its focus was on one of my favorite quotes throughout my teaching and coaching career. It is also under ten minutes long, as were a lot of the first episodes. Oh, how things have changed over the last four years! Anyway, I hope you enjoy Episode 1 - Success is a Journey! For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

This week I talk about a little topic called, "The Meanng of Life"! Yeah, no biggie. Just the biggest topic one could tackle, and I come at it straight on with hard-hitting, journalistic integrity that . . .
Okay, I don't do anything like that. But I do have four really good quotes for you that talk about meaning and purpose in life that I think you're going to really like. Enjoy! For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

This week's quote comes to us from an unlikely source. Well, I should say it's an unlikely source, only because I had not heard it until late last week. I was scrolling through my Twitter feed (Arrgghhh! I hate how Twitter sucks me in like that!), and I came across a video of the British actor, Michael Caine. I don't remember who posted the video; I thought it was Brett Ledbetter of "What Drives Winning," but I can't find the video anywhere on their site, so I'm not sure where it came from.
No matter where it came from, though, the quote and the idea behind it are outstanding, and I knew the moment I heard it that I needed to talk about it. So, you get it today! For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].
