A short, but powerful, quote today that focuses on how you and I can help the world. It becomes really powerful when you consider the predicament the author went through during and after the time of writing this.

In this episode, I focus on two quotes that play off of a third very famous quote that you have all heard. (You have probably already guessed what that quote is!) They are really good quotes for us to consider as we are trying to grow into the best versions of ourselves.

Great quote today from Stephen Covey, the author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This one is about a quality that is so important for members of teams to possess - humility. Those of you leading any kind of team are going to love this one!

You get to hear a poem today! Don't go running away if you're not a fan of poetry. I guarantee you that you're going to love the message in this one, especially if you are a coach, teacher, parent, or leader of young people (or anyone, for that matter). Great message in a great poem, so I had to share it as a "Great Quote"!

Sorry for not releasing an episode last week! No excuses, except that life as a new Activities Director at a high school got in the way. But I'm back this week with an outstanding quote from one of the founders of the concept of Servant Leadership - Max De Pree. There is a lot packed into this quote... so much so that I know you're going to love this one!

You might recognize the title of this episode as a quote by Marcus Aurelius, and you would be right in doing so. However, in today's episode, I am actually talking about 10 points and a few quotes from the Introduction to Brene Brown's book, Dare to Lead, that I mentioned a few weeks ago.
In the Introduction, she mentions Aurelius's quote, but she does it to introduce 10 behaviors and cultural issues that leaders identified as getting in the way of their organizations becoming the best they could become. Check out the 10 things she talks about and see if you find that the organizations and teams that you are involved in have many of those same issues that are keeping you from achieving all that you are trying to achieve.
Really powerful stuff here, and I'm sure I will be doing more from this book at some point in the future. For now, just dive into these ideas, then go get this book because you're going to want to do so much more with it after you hear the ideas in here. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

Since so many schools around the USA are starting school this week or next or the week after that (and some of you have already started!), I decided I would talk about some quotes about education. There are quite a few here. I actually talked about the first 10 back on March 27, 2023. I talked about them in more detail then, so I just read the quotes this time for you to think about them. However, I have four more quotes on education that you'll be hearing from me for the first time, and for those, I talked about them in much more detail.
Best of luck to all of you teachers and coaches who are starting out your school years or fall sports seasons at this time, and thank you for all that you will do for your kids to help them have the best experience possible. I hope these quotes will be a bit of inspiration as you start on this year's journey with them! For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

A short episode today, but a quote that hits home for any of us in the leadership realm. This quote comes from Susan Collins, the senator from Maine. It was a perfect quote for me to talk about today, as this past Saturday I did a workshop for the coaches at my school and some of the leaders of their teams. Enjoy!

Last week we embarked on a new, different journey. While I'm not making drastic changes to the podcast, I am making some changes that you will notice within the first 15 seconds of these new episodes. You won't hear the introduction and the closing comments that I have been saying for four years of doing the podcast. It's just me starting things off and closing things down. Yes, there is still the music by Krisztian Vass at the beginning and end, but much less of it and no canned comments from me over it.
As usual, I'm going to be bringing you great quotes to help you in your leadership realm, but also just in living your life. And today is no exception. Today, I am talking about two paragraphs in a book I have just started reading by an author who is no stranger to this podcast - Dr. Brene Brown. I have talked about and read quotes by and done a series of quotes by Brene Brown, so if you've been a regular listener to the show, you should be familiar with her work.
I am just starting her book "Dare to Lead," and already, just in the Introduction to the book, I have gotten a lot out of it. Today's episode focuses on two paragraphs in the Introduction that are huge for us as teachers/coaches. I highly recommend you check out the book. While I'm not planning on doing a series on the book right now, I can't fathom I won't be taking quotes and ideas from the book and talking about them on the podcast. even if I don't do that, I think you will find (like I think I'm going to find) lots of great things in this book for your own leadership/coaching journey. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

We embark on a new, different journey today. No, I'm not making drastic changes to the podcast. However, I am making some changes that you will notice within the first 15 seconds of this episode.
First of all, this is now Season 9 of the podcast. What makes it that way? Because I said so; that's what makes it that way! Seriously, there has never been a rhyme or reason as to why or when I change to a new season, so I'm not going to impose one on it now.
Second, you won't hear the introduction and the closing comments that I have been saying for four years of doing the podcast. It's just me starting things off and closing things down. Yes, there is still the music by Krisztian Vass at the beginning and end, but much less of it and no canned comments from me over it.
Finally, I'm still going to be bringing you great quotes to help you in your leadership realm, but also just in living your life. And today is no exception. I have four lines that I heard Tom Brady say on Colin Cowherd's podcast that I thought were outstanding ideas. I can't wait to hear Brady do the color commentary on NFL games this year, as every time I hear him speak, I hear something I like. And you're going to love these four quotes!
So, there you have it. I hope you like the changes to the show. Nothing major, just dropping some of the fluff. As always, please rate the show and leave a comment about it. Also, reach out to me and let me know what you think of where I'm going with this. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

This is the final episode of a series I have been doing over the last couple of months about great ideas and quotes from an outstanding book called "Organize Your Team Today," by Dr. Jason Selk and Tom Bartow. I learned so much from this book, and you will, too. As I have been saying from the start of the series, I highly recommend you pick it up. You can also find it under the title, "Lead Any Team to Win."
Last week, I talked about Chapter 8 - "The Attack Mentality: Attack, Always Attack." This week we wrap up with a chapter talking about the importance of always being prepared to make adjustments to the plan you are working on executing and how to do so.
I've really enjoyed bringing this book to you. I am considering doing something similar with other books and creating a podcast that focuses on the great ideas and quotes from books that I have found inspirational and impactful on my teaching, coaching, team-building, leadership, and life. Would you be interested in having me do something like that? Email me at [email protected] and let me know if that sounds like something you would like. For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

This week we move into Chapter 7 - Talent: Selection & Development. As has been the case with each chapter, there is so much great stuff in here to help you help your teams grow and develop the way you would like to see them do so. I love the stuff on investing in your talented people more than your new people. Not sure what I'm talking about? Last week, I talked about the second half of Chapter 4 - "Turning Team Chemistry into Team Cohesion." Today, we move to Chapter 5 - "It's Okay to Disagree: Just Don't Be Disagreeable." Last week, I talked about the first half of Chapter 4 - "Turning Team Chemistry into Team Cohesion." There was so much good stuff in this chapter that I had to split it into two parts. So, today you get Part 2 of Chapter 4. In this chapter, they talk about two important ways to create successful Team Cohesion: The Point and Flow. I have been a strong proponent of both of these concepts throughout my coaching career, and I hadn't even read the book yet!For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at [email protected].

Last week, I talked about, Chapter 3, "Self-Evaluation: The Genesis of All Improvement." In this week's episode, we move to Chapter 4 - "Turning Team Chemistry into Team Cohesion."
You're going to love the concepts in this one! In fact, there are so many great ideas in this chapter, that I had to cover it all in two episodes instead of one. You will hear the second part of this chapter either in a bonus episode later this week or in next Monday's episode. Last week, I talked about Chapter 1, "Channel Capacity: Why Less is More," in which we heard about the importance of not overloading your team (and yourself) with too much at a time. This week we move to Chapter 2, "Managing Expectations: Trust or Suspicion." There is so much great stuff in this chapter because the concept of trust is such an integral element to any great team experience.
