Eventually, Eli Manning is getting into the Hall of Fame because he’s a Manning, right? He’s essentially an NFL Kennedy.
That’s the debate we open up with on this week’s Go Long Happy Hour with subscribers.
I’m joined by the great Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated who wrote a column on this topic Friday.
Of course, there’s amuch Chiefs/Eagles to discuss, as we take your questions.
How good of a coach is Nick Sirianni? The Eagles head man took a step back this season. The spotlight Sunday isn’t only on the teams participating. Tom Brady will be facing quite a bit of pressure on Fox’s call.
Also, the NFL pretends that Travis Kelce never tried to fight his head coach in last year’s Super Bowl. Odd.
A fun chat as always.

NEW ORLEANS — Somehow, the Kansas City Chiefs became villains. It’s not a role they asked for, but a role they’ve got no problem embracing.
All they’d like is a chance to stick a dagger into your chest late.
We know the Philadelphia Eagles roster is loaded with talent. As discussed earlier with PHLY’s Zach Berman, there really isn’t a weakness. Yet, not much seems to matter whenever Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo and Chris Jones are playing in a one-score game. This dynasty is much like the last dynasty in the NFL and, hey, the good news is Andy Reid most likely will not start dating a woman young enough to be his granddaughter. Unlike Bill Belichick, the mustached Chiefs head coach is a lovable fellow.
Let’s take the Chiefs conversation to the Go Long Podcast with one of our favorite guests: Joshua Brisco of the “Only Weird Games” Chiefs podcast on KC Sports Network.
A ton of insight. A ton of fun. We explore the psychology of this Chiefs team, and a lot more.

NEW ORLEANS — They’re back.
For the third time in eight years, Howie Roseman has steered the Philadelphia Eagles into the Super Bowl.
But how? And what makes this team special? We get a ton of insight from Zach Berman of PHLY. “ZB” isn’t just one of my pals from The Daily Orange at Syracuse University. He’s one of the absolute best on the Eagles beat. Be sure to read his stories and watch his daily shows.
Here on the Go Long Podcast, Berman breaks down how Roseman built this team.
Hint: Just as bad owners can poison their football operation, a good owner can go a very long way. The Eagles have mastered the difference between “cash” and “cap,” and are never afraid to take a chance in the draft or via trade.
Also discussed:
* Why Berman believes this is the best of the three Eagles Super Bowl teams.
* Jalen Carter. You heard from the scouts in Bob McGinn’s draft series. My goodness, it was ugly. Did the Eagles get one of the best draft-day steals in recent memory? The going’s good right now.
* Jalen Hurts & A.J. Brown. Is this relationship still rocky? What happened?
* Underrated players to keep an eye on in Super Bowl LIX.
You can listen to our conversation here at Go Long, as well as on Apple, Spotify and everywhere you pod. Thank you for reading and subscribing, friends.

The man working the phones to move up in the 2017 NFL Draft for Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes wasn’t Andy Reid or Brett Veach.
Rather, John Dorsey.
From 2013- ‘17, Dorsey didn’t only serve as the general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs — he built for the foundation for everything we still see today in 2025. Here on the “Ty & Bob Pod” at Go Long with co-host Bob McGinn, we examine the roots of the Chiefs’ epic run. The former Packers exec drafted stars we’ll see in Canton one day.
History has been kind to Dorsey, who’s now a senior personnel exec for the Detroit Lions.
Also, you will not want to miss McGinn’s commentary when it comes to the, uh, “blocking” exploits of Travis Kelce in the AFC title game. (With all due apologies to any “Swifties,” of course.)
Here’s your first look at Chiefs-Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. Much more to come.

Another season, another loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
More specifically, this was another season of Josh Allen’s prime squandered.
Here’s a column dissecting the latest playoff defeat to Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and Steve Spagnuolo. This 32-29 loss will linger for the Buffalo Bills.
Here on the Go Long Podcast, I’m joined by Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News.
Should this season be viewed as a success given the dialogue around this team all last offseason? Or is this a major disappointment given the Bills (again) effectively smashed into the brick wall that is the Chiefs?

For the fourth time in five years, the Kansas City Chiefs have sent the Buffalo Bills home. It was a 32-29 final.
Patrick Mahomes. Andy Reid. This duo always finds a way. We’re witnessing greatness.
Yet, there’s certainly a ton of blame to go around in Buffalo. We’ll have time to make sense of it all in stories ‘n podcasts right here at Go Long. We dinged record on a Substack Live in the immediate aftermath to discuss. Video is above and you can also listen inside the podcast feed. It’s not revenge, the Bills say. Rather, a reckoning.
Now, another clash with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs is here.

The NFL’s natural forces have led to this at Arrowhead Stadium:
Kansas City & Patrick Mahomes vs. Buffalo & Josh Allen.
Is this the year that the Bills (finally) slay the king? We examined in this week’s Friday Feature at Go Long. Buffalo is a loose, confident team right now.
To get the Chiefs’ perspective on this matchup, let’s check back in with one of the best football writers ever: Michael MacCambridge, the author of “America’s Game: The Epic Story of How Pro Football Captured a Nation.” Ahead of this season, MacCambridge authored a three-part series here at Go Long on the Chiefs’ quest for a three-peat:
Loved today’s conversation on the matchup. Michael answers so many questions concerned these dynastic Chiefs.
How will Andy Reid attack Buffalo’s defense? Has KC been lucky or good — what should we make of their razor-thin margins of victory this season? And when you’re talking Chiefs, the conversation always leads back to Patrick Mahomes.

This 2024- ‘25 ride for the Detroit Lions was really starting to feel like a fairy tale. Despite all of their injuries, Dan Campbell’s gang earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC postseason.
Then, the Washington Commanders shoved that Disney script into a paper shredder.
Jayden Daniels was tremendous. Jared Goff was not. And those injuries on defense were finally too much to overcome.
Here on the “Ty & Bob Pod,” our resident Hall of Famer, Bob McGinn, dives into the film. The meltdowns were numerous. Yet, there’s nothing Bob knows more than those 90s Packers that he covered on the beat. He sees striking similarities in these Lions. They’ll be back.
We also discuss Goff. He was exceptional all season, but how concerned should the Lions be about this turnover-filled finale?
Finally, Ben Johnson is off to the Chicago Bears. How much will this affect both Chicago and Detroit?
Thank you for listening to the podcast, everyone.

What a game last night. Suppose those Washington Commanders tried to tell us, eh? Joe Whitt compared this team to the 2010 Packers and now that statement is looking prophetic. Dan Quinn’s club lit it up at Ford Field.
Now, we inch closer to the main event: the Baltimore Ravens at the Buffalo Bills.
We’ve all been dissecting this matchup to the point of becoming hoarse — but for good reason. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are must-see TV. Legacies are on the line across the board.
On Saturday night, we recorded a live show at Fattey Beer in Orchard Park, NY.
A huge THANK YOU to everybody who hung out with us. So good to meet you all.

Dan Campbell seeks a very specific brand of football player.
The Buffalo Bills have spent the last 1 1/2 years trying to evolve into a team capable of winning in sub-zero wind chill.
Of course, Derrick Henry is as close as we’ll get to the badass running backs of bygone eras.
These four matchups are full of players and schemes our fathers and grandfathers would appreciate. Here on the podcast, I bring on Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated to break down everything. The headliner is obvious, and Go Long will be on-hand to cover Ravens at Bills. But there’s plenty to discuss with all the games… as well as Christmas Toy Aftermath Analysis.

Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are unlike anyone at their respective positions.
The quarterback will likely win his third MVP, judging by the All-Pro voting.
The running back is up to 2,107 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season, all at the age of 31 years old.
But you heard it from A.J. Epenesa after the Buffalo Bills’ wild-card win over Denver. This Buffalo Bills defense that’s suffered its share of postseason duds will not put the Ravens up on a pedestal. They’re confident in their own progress since. Week 4. “We definitely respect them,” Epenesa told Go Long, “but there’s a way to beat everybody and that’s our mindset.”
On Substack Live, from One Bills Drive, I was joined by Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News on Wednesday. We dive into the match-up.
* How should the Bills defend this duo? Theoretically, Sean McDermott could replace nickel Taron Johnson with a linebacker, but is it worth changing who you are?
* Is McDermott’s team looser into this playoff game vs. past divisional round games? He got into the psychology of his team in our sitdown last week.
* Which Ed Oliver shows up? Buffalo needs him.
* Tackling Derrick Henry in 5-degree weather likely will not be a fun experience. Which team benefits from the bitter cold in the forecast?
* Why the Bills are determined to win on the line of scrimmage.
* Josh Allen will need be the purest form of Josh Allen to win.

So, what now?
The Green Bay Packers entered the 2024 season with realistic Super Bowl expectations, and they now exit without a true signature win. This team suffered yet another disheartening playoff defeat. Yes, they’re young. Yes, they’ll fully expect to get more opportunities. But nobody in history has taken sharper autopsy views of Packers seasons q…

All season, we’ve been analyzing the NFC North with Bob McGinn right here on the “Ty & Bob Pod” at Go Long. The Detroit Lions took the throne in Game No. 272, but nobody’s quite ready to exhale.
The playoff matchups are set.
Green Bay heads to Philadelphia. Minnesota flies to L.A.
Both teams are staggering after humbling defeats… especially the quarterback…

Wild Card Football is here. Maybe this weekend conjures memories of the Buffalo Bills’ 35-3 epic vs. the Houston Oilers. Or Jerry Rice’s fumble. Or Frank Wycheck’s home-run throwback. Or a Jeff Garcia rally vs. the Giants. Or Matt Hasselbeck’s overtime declaration.
Will we see a classic this season? Let’s get the week started on the podcast.
I’m joined again by Jim Monos, the longtime NFL scout/exec who won a Super Bowl with Sean Payton’s New Orleans and was second in command with the Buffalo Bills May 2013- ‘17. We preview each game with a longer look at Bills-Broncos. After all, it was Monos who said way back in February/March that Nix was destined to be Payton’s quarterback in Denver.
You can access video and audio of the show here, as well as Apple, Spotify and YouTube.
Thank you for making Go Long your home for longform in pro football.

So, it all comes down to this in the NFC North: the Detroit Lions vs. the Minnesota Vikings with all of America watching.
Ford Field will be ear-splitting.
Homefield advantage is on the line.
All season, we’ve been diving into the film on the “Ty & Bob Pod.” All season, the Packers, Lions and Vikings have exchanged body blows. Now, the tournament is closing in and you better know what you’re looking at in the mirror. Dan Campbell refused to heed Troy Aikman’s advice and played to win in Santa Clara. Detroit’s offense is humming along. The defense? That’s another story. Can Dan Campbell piece together a Super Bowl run? That No. 1 seed would certainly help.
At U.S. Bank Stadium, Kevin O’Connell’s team punked Matt LaFleur’s Packers.
The final score (27-25) was not indicative of the punishment. Big-game talk may be “bothersome” to LaFleur but it’s undeniably concerning that he hasn’t beaten the top teams. Green Bay wants to be a more physical outfit on offense, but it might be smart for LaFleur to unleash his $220 million dollar quarterback. This is a coach who tends to lose his cool on the sideline, too. We discuss how each of these teams are an extension of their coach.
Green Bay went 0-4 against Detroit and Minnesota this season and McGinn’s numbers behind this record are startling.
Is there time for the Packers to find themselves? Of course. There are a few answers out there on both sides of the ball.
Audio is above. Video is below.
And, icymi, here’s my conversation with Bruce Smith on “How the NFL Works.”
Thanks, all.
This is a public episode. If you’d like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit www.golongtd.com/subscribe -
Bruce Smith is hurting. He’s feeling the effects of those 299 total games played, those 214.5 total sacks (playoffs included). Many nights, he’s in so much pain that he barely grabs a wink of sleep.
So just imagine how all those quarterbacks feel.
Those 76 different quarterbacks he sacked.
The Buffalo Bills legend is truly one of the greatest football players to ever live. On this episode of “How the NFL Works” at Go Long, Smith explains exactly how he was able to dominate offenses. The Pro Football Hall of Famer was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team in both the 80s and 90s. Nobody sacked the quarterback more than him — not Reggie White, not Lawrence Taylor. There’s a very good chance his regular-season record of 200 lasts for a long, long time. For perspective, Myles Garrett still has 98 sacks to go.
And yet, Smith also knows his career could’ve crumbled if he didn’t look in the mirror and demand changes from himself. From brutal training sessions on a StairMaster to his diet to — above all — meticulous film study, Smith became a monstrous force vs. the pass and the run on the Bills team that reached four straight Super Bowls. And he did it while playing in a 3-4 defense.
Indeed, there’s an art to the destruction.
On this episode, Smith doesn’t hold back on a variety of topics.
* His life turnaround, from 310 pounds and out of shape to 6.3 percent body fat.
* His relationship with Bills fans. It has evolved. During the ‘91 season, he received racist letters and wanted out of Buffalo. One conversation with Marv Levy changed his mind.
* Stories from the trenches. What did Joe Montana and Dan Marino have to say after Smith flattened them?
* What kind of owner was Ralph Wilson?
* What was the missing piece on his Super Bowl teams?
* Josh Allen. Smith marvels at the team’s MVP-worthy quarterback today. He keeps in touch with Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane, too.
* Yes, Smith believes he’s got the case to make as the greatest defensive player ever.

The Buffalo Bills have locked up the No. 2 seed in the AFC.
The New York Jets have locked up their status as the most dysfunctional organization in the league.
I’ll have more in print on Monday from one of the worst games in Aaron Rodgers’ 20-year career. Until then, here’s a quick 15-minute Substack Live with longtime personnel man Jim Monos. By the time Rodgers swapped his helmet for a ball cap it was 40-zip. He was disinterested and a shell of his former self. The quarterback on the other sideline, Josh Allen, made his last case for the MVP award.
Was it enough? We discuss. And all objective football consumers should hope for a Allen vs. Lamar divisional playoff showdown in this stadium.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Good morning! And greetings from Lions Country, where the injuries are piling up to epic proportions.
Dan Campbell set the tone this week on his radio show.
This is also a team that started 4-19-1 under his watch. He managed to hold everyone together to build an NFC power. With the No. 1 seed still in view, we can certainly expect to see plenty of fight.
I’ll have more from this visit through the final stretch of the season. In the meantime, take a bite out of that molded bread and enjoy this conversation with Justin Rogers of the Detroit Football Network.
Justin has covered the Lions since 2011 and made the Substack plunge himself ahead of this 2024 season. I highly encourage everyone to check out his work. He does a hell of a job.
Here on the pod, we sift through the list of injuries and gauge the Lions’ title chances.
Also, we pan out for a big-picture view. From Day 1, Campbell had his finger on the pulse of the city. Now, his latest greatest test awaits.
Thank you for listening.
