Speaking with Kapil Sharma, Founder of SayTrees (NGO), and Moneetha, SayTrees' Lead of Media Communications.
SayTrees is a non-profit organization that promotes tree planting.
Kapil Sharma is a software engineer who founded the NGO SayTrees.
While working in Bangalore, he witnessed the swift cutting down of trees due to road widening, metro construction, and apartment block. It made him worried to see the trees being cut down, and the weather began to change and became harsh and fluctuating over time, which was supposed to be pleasant all year!
Then he decided to find a solution, it occurred to him that the planting of trees is something that is easy and yet effective, that's how SayTrees was started in the year 2007. SayTrees then became a group run by ordinary people who are extraordinarily determined to protect the environment not only by themselves but also by sensitizing others to the importance of environmental conservation and encouraging them to participate in tree-planting campaigns. They conduct more than 50 tree plantation drives during the four months of monsoon. SayTrees leads a number of initiatives, including research, education, sensitization, and advocacy on the importance of environmental preservation and tree planting. The organization thrives on its large volunteer base, which includes thousands of people ranging from young children to busy professionals, housewives, and retirees.
Currently, they have planted more than 51 lakhs of trees. Also, they are working closely with farmers to improve Agroforestry and are educating people on how to plant and take care of trees, etc.
