This podcast is about connecting. It's about growing. It's about stretching. In society nowadays, it's easy to fall into echo chambers. This is not an echo chamber. Open Adoption Project is a community dedicated to listening and learning, and building relationships based on healthy respect and communication.
The Open Adoption Project focuses on improving adoptee experiences by encouraging open communication between all members of the adoption constellation, nurturing ongoing open adoption relationships and promoting ethical adoption practices. Follow us on Instagram @OpenAdoptionProject and at our website, openadoptionproject.org (http://openadoptionproject.org).
Everyone is welcome here. Considering adopting? Adoptive parents tune in as we listen and learn from adoptees first and foremost. Adopted individuals share a wide spectrum of experiences, including search and reunion. This podcast is a safe space for any perspectives and experiences adoptees and first parents share, while adopters and those wanting to adopt listen and learn. Academics and others also share with us.
This podcast is a passion project. No one here is connected to any adoption agencies. We do not profit from this podcast. It is a volunteer project we embrace to better enable adoptees and birth parents / biological parents to share their stories.

Hi, we are Nick & Kat :) We have been thrown our fair share of curveballs during our 5 years together. All of these experiences forced us to deconstruct and rebuild our beliefs over and over, and what we've learned through these experiences is that we don't know much at all. We live in a state of constant Pond.ering. We are always questioning and wondering "why?" We are trying to find new perspectives and experiences to help us understand this life of ours, but we don't think we'll ever find the answers and that's okay. We are good with the Pond.ering. Come hang out with us every week while we Pond.er into the mic about the big and small life questions, discuss interesting topics & hear stories of others who are in a state of Pond.ering as well. Let's all try to figure this life out together, or at least build a community of people who are good with being in the Pond.ering state of life.

Tonje, a compassionate voice on a mission, engages in transformative conversations with survivors, experts, therapists, her own child, and even those who have caused harm – all with the aim of crafting better strategies to reduce the alarming rates of sexual abuse and childhood trauma.
How do you navigate the delicate terrain of discussing trauma?
Tonje, a survivor of childhood abuse, embarks on a healing journey, contemplating whether the cycle of intergenerational trauma can morph into a spiral. As she discovers her own emotional immaturity, she explores the concept of "traumaing" – reacting to triggers and feeling unsafe. But the big question lingers: How does this impact those around her? Can shedding light on the healing process help the children of traumatized parents endure their own struggles? Perhaps, by addressing trauma early, we can even prevent its occurrence through discussions in schools.
Hurt People, Hurt People.
When we find ourselves on the path to healing, is it possible to break free from the shackles of intergenerational trauma? Tonje ponders the notion of avoiding causing harm to others when one's own healing journey has not yet commenced. Could open conversations with our closest relationships transform the cycle into a spiral? Acknowledging that some of our trauma inevitably affects those around us, Tonje emphasizes the importance of sharing the message that they are not to blame. This act of understanding might just be the catalyst needed to initiate their healing, potentially preventing a prolonged cycle of pain and confusion.
Join Tonje in the empowering journey of "Breaking Chains, Building Spirals," where conversations become catalysts for healing, understanding, and breaking free from the binds of intergenerational trauma.

Life is freaking hard. We are all doing hard things every single day – things like loving and losing; caring for children and parents; forging and ending friendships; battling addiction, illness, and loneliness; struggling in our jobs, our marriages, and our divorces; setting boundaries; and fighting for equality, purpose, freedom, joy, and peace.
On We Can Do Hard Things, Glennon Doyle, author of UNTAMED; her wife Abby Wambach; and her sister Amanda Doyle do the only thing they’ve found that has ever made life easier: Drop the fake and talk honestly about the hard things including sex, gender, parenting, blended families, bodies, anxiety, addiction, justice, boundaries, fun, quitting, overwhelm . . . all of it.
We laugh and cry and help each other carry the hard so we can all live a little bit lighter and braver, free-er, less alone.
