  • Jason Rose and I had my colleague Ollie Barder on as guest for episode 8 of the Game Night! Podcast. Ollie works as a game designer and covers Japanese gaming and culture at Forbes. He lives in Tokyo, hails from England, and has a very unique perspective on the video game industry. We talk about various games, the Sweet Baby Inc stuff and why there are much bigger problems with the video game industry. Enjoy!

  • We are joined by our first guest on Game Night! Lord Cognito. One half of the Defining Dukes of Last Stand Media fame. CEO of Lords of Gaming and a cornerstone of the Iron Lords Podcast.

We get right into the hard-hitting questions on everything Xbox. Will they survive and how, did Gamepass kill Xbox as we know it or did they simply play their hand too quickly? No softballs here and disagreements were had.

Then we delve into our histories. With all of us being of the accelerated ages we get into what brought the love into our lives for gaming. Cog and I gush over our SEGA histories.

Lots more to be found in this 3 hour banger of an episode

  • Jason Rose and I are trying once again to do a gaming podcast where we talk about all the games we don't have time to play, the big industry news and controversies, and whatever else tickles our fancy. This is episode 5. 2023 just finished, was it the best year ever for video games? What’s on the horizon for 2024, could it actually match ‘23? Plus a little of what we’re playing, what we’ve been up to, and just what the F has taken us sooo long! Stay with us everyone, we aren’t going away this time.

Our first podcast of 2023 and a lot has changed. I (Jason) welcomed a 2nd child and I (Jason) and immensely worn out. That said, our enthusiasm for video games hasn’t waned and there is a ton to be pumped about this year.

We begin with a thorough discussion on the all the warranted hubaloo surrounding TV’s hottest show, The Last of Us. We also touch on what some of the worries are as the show moves into eventual TLOU2 territory with it’s announced renewal.

Of course, what we’ve been playing and a lot of surprising critique about God of War Ragnarok and its disappointing finale. Erik played the Wo Long Fallen Dynasty demo, Warzone (of course) and Forspoken, along with a few others we’ve been venturing into.

E3 is in trouble, again and rumor has it the Big 3 aren’t joining the party.

We’ve moved on from Tunic, it just didn’t grab us like we wanted and our new game recommendation is Dead Space Remake. Scared yet?

Musical intermission is The Witcher 2 Assassin of Kings Main Theme

And as we come back from break we get into everything 2023 has in store for us games wise. If this holds and that’s a big IF, we are looking at one of the best years in this medium’s history.

Happy gaming kids, we’ll be back with episode 5 soon.

Merry Christmas everyone and welcome to our first of many over here at Game Night! Inside these 2 hours you’ll find hilarity, music and entertainment, critique, love, some video games and all of this under the haze of joyful Christmas cheer. (Yes, we had some drinks)

After some brief how do you do’s and what we’ve been up to Erik and I move to an abbreviated recap of Canada’s own: Geoff Keighley! and his annual Game Award show which for our money was one of the very best yet. Surprises, announcements, long speeches and maybe a disappointment or 2.

We touch on our game recommendation from last week, Tunic. Spoiler, we were delinquent and didn’t get enough playtime in so this one will be carried over to next episode. If you’re late to the podcast you still have time to chime in with your thoughts or play along.

Erik needed a lot of breaks so there’s multiple musical interludes and they’re as follows: The first is from me and it’s a way back, play back from the SEGA Master System and a game entitled Zillion. Then it’s a short ditty from the Evangelion rebuilds which is called Peaceful Times. Lastly we end on another gaming departure and that’s from BLEACH TYBW Unohana’s Bankai.

After that it all gets a bit blurry. We’ve got what we’ve been playing which deviates into how DC is dead to me (Jason) why dogs > cats ( I made that up), tech malfunctions, then we decided to hang out off air during one of the intermissions for like an hour and talk about life, then we came back to discuss wonderful Christmas memories and a few New Year’s Resolutions for the year.

WHEW, I think that about covers it everyone. Again, thanks for sticking with us as we iron this all out. It’s been a good start and there’s a lot more coming. All the best to you and yours, Merry Christmas everyone, be excellent to each other.

After much deliberation and discussion Erik and I have put together a more structured and organized Game Night podcast. I think we've nailed it with these segments, let us know what you think.

Lot of TV and travel talk, our first game recommendation that we'll play in between shows and then share our thoughts, what we've been playing which is everything from the latest COD, to Valkyrie Elysium and finally a lot of God of War Ragnarok, our first music intermissions with a strong entry from Erik this episode, followed by our new segment entitled "Really, REALLY?!" covering some of the absurdity in the game industry and in general, finally our topic of the show to close it all out, that being The State of the Gaming Union discussing the state of the big 3 of XBOX, Nintendo and PlayStation.

We love that you're back, we love that you're listening and we hope you enjoy episode 2 of Game Night! Share your thoughts next episode and play along with our game recommendation of Tunic. Until next time!

Welcome to the actual 1st, FIRST episode of Game Night! w/ Erik Kain & Jason Rose. We delve into a lot of games media culture stuff right off the bat; why is everyone afraid of China? G4TV was an adventure doomed to fail and should have been launched Guerilla warfare style with talented people instead of with an army of mostly unlikable people. Bayonetta is straight in Bayo3 and that’s a problem, we guess? Should have been obvious but hey, we never questioned it.

Overwatch 2 was our recommendation for eachother last episode and we both came away un-impressed and hiding our wallets. Free to play sure doesn’t feel that free in 2022. Then some Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Final Fantasy XVI news along with a nice discussion about why Nintendo’s hardware stinks and then we disagree on XBOX’s past, present and ultimately future potential. ALL THIS IN EPISODE 1 OF GAME NIGHT!

    Love you all.

  • Welcome to episode 00 of our new gaming podcast, Game Night! a bi-weekly variety audio endeavor exploring gaming from all angle, at our pace. This entry served as a quick intro to us and just a feeling out process, more or less. We talk a lot of what’s been going on in the realm of TV, what we’ve been playing and end it on a discussion of wondering if one sequel is enough to close out the Norse mythology saga for God of War.

This episode was recorded in mid October 2022.
