  • What’s up fellas…

In today's interview, I’m joined by Michael Franti, a father, husband, singer/songwriter and owner of Soulshine Bali.

He has been spreading positivity and love through his music for almost 40 years.

I had the incredible opportunity to sit down backstage in Asheville, NC, while he's on tour, stepping directly into his world, and exploring the highs and lows of his very full touring schedule and what it takes to balance fame and family.

In this episode, we explore Michael's relationship with his fathers, and the impact they had on his life – while exploring Michael’s heartfelt stories about raising kids, making music, dealing with anxiety and depression, and so much more.

You'll also hear from his son Cappy, who joined us towards the end of the interview, who shared stories with reverence and honesty about growing up with Michael as his father.

I could feel the love he has for his father, and also respected how he shared some of the pain we all experience as kids when we feel disconnected from our dads.

As Michael believes, “There’s no one you wouldn’t love if you knew their story”.

This episode is filled with true stories, touching moments and deep insights.

I hope you enjoy my conversation with the one and only Michael Franti and make sure to roll down the windows of your car, turn on his playlist (Michael Franti and Spearhead) and sing your heart out.

    A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through…

Overcoming depression and finding ease of heart How Michael teaches others to find their voice Letting your kids make their own choices When Michael discovered the true source of his anger Michael’s top 3 songs that cover the range of human emotions A father and son collab on musical breathwork & meditation How Michael and Cappy enjoy their time together Some of Cappy’s fondest memories with his Dad Dealing with emotions from being away works both ways The vision for Soulshine Bali Music & Wellness retreats

  • Gentlemen, I’ve got Greg Scheinman here with me today. Greg is a performance coach, entrepreneur, keynote speaker, and author of The Midlife Male, a guide to helping men feel happier, healthier, and lead rewarding lives in their 40s and 50s.

We kicked things off by digging into some common ground: Waking up at 3 a.m. with that old and eerily familiar friend… anxiety. We talked about what works for us to get better sleep and some potential triggers that seem to cause those restless and sleepless nights.

We also talked about approaching midlife by looking for those sweet spots between hustling and grinding to being at peace and enjoying life. We dig into how much therapy and inner work is too much and how relationships and development are like muscles that also need to rest. We also shared a few stories about our hiking adventures, testing and knowing your limits, when to push and when to relax, and mixed in some 29029 Everesting chat and a lot more. Enjoy!

    A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through...

    - Managing the 3am anxiety wake up calls

    - Finding the sweet spot between hustling & happiness

    - Greg’s routines that have improved his sleep quality

    - How all men aren’t wired to show love the same way

    - Make the most of the first 17 years with your kids

    - How much therapy and inner work is too much?

    - It’s okay to be okay. Stop digging for trauma

    - Know your limits, especially at the 29029 Everesting

    - Going away to recharge and not come re-energized?

    - Choices are good, but make a decision and go all-in

    - Greg’s 3-year process to creating Midlife Male

  • Today, I’m joined by Brent Perkins and Eric Farewell, two incredible humans from our community who’ve not only crushed it as entrepreneurs but also made a tremendous impact as parents, husbands, and friends to the Brotherhood.

Brent and Eric walk us through their journey of participating in and leading FRD bands, which has helped them open up about their fears and feelings and transformed their connections with their families and everyone around them.

One of the main areas we focused on was challenging the stereotypical “strong man” image and defining real masculinity for men who are willing to put in the work, be vulnerable, and commit to being better Dads and husbands. Yes, men need to be strong, but true strength is being courageous enough to talk openly when we’re struggling.

    A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through…

The impact that FRD bands have had on Eric & Brent Exploring a different definition of masculinity How FRD bands help men become less rigid and hardened Two key ingredients for a thriving band of brothers How being in a band holds men accountable & skip the BS What happens when men share their lives openly in a diverse group Joining a band could be the spark to change your life

  • In today’s Member Takeover episode, I’m passing the baton to a couple of Jasons and badass members of the Brotherhood. Today’s host is none other than Jason Bronstad and joining him is Jason Wachob. Jason Wachob is the co-founder of mindbodygreen, an organization that revolutionizes health and wellness with holistic approaches that go beyond traditional medicine.

In this conversation between two Jasons, they discuss something that is easy to forget as parents: it’s not the flashy gifts or the fancy cars that win our kids’ hearts. What matters most is our presence—being there for their sporting events, plays, or simply hanging out and playing at home.

As a former basketball player, Jason W. opens up about the impact sports had on him and the valuable life lessons, health benefits, and positive impact sports have on our kids’ personal growth, both on and off the field.

Jason W. also shares some killer insights, medical tests, and screens to help us step up our health game, catch any warning signs early, and take control of our mental and physical health. Enjoy!

  • In the second episode of our Member Takeover Series this summer, we're keeping the momentum going with two more powerhouse members of the Brotherhood, featuring Mike Wagner and hosted by Alex Pardo.

Mike doesn't hold back about his struggles with being genuinely present for his family and how he used work to escape the daily pressures of fatherhood.

A big part of Mike's recovery is his embodiment practice of "feeling whatever is" and being honest about his emotional struggles in front of his kids. He shares why this practice is not just for him but serves as a live demonstration to his children on managing emotions in healthy ways.

You'll also hear why Mike recommends testing a concept he adapted from Tucker Max, the Minimum Viable Separation. By spending some time away from our family when we’re feeling disconnected from our loved ones it allows us to reconnect, resolve conflict and show up in healthier and happier ways.

    A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through…

The metric for quality time = presence Daily practices to get to a flow state Resources for practicing meditation & presence Leading by example with screen time and technology Improving relationships and anger issues starts within Managing conflict by pausing, then communicating Reconnecting with your family values Mike’s daily routines to be at his best Testing the Minimum Viable Separation Concept

  • In the first episode of our Member Takeover Series this summer, we're kicking things off with two incredible humans and VIP members of the Brotherhood, featuring Michael Chu and hosted by Matt Drinkhahn.

In this conversation, Mike shares some of the childhood wounds that he's worked on since becoming a parent, from overcoming his belief that he "wasn't good enough" despite enjoying tremendous success in creating multiple 7-figure businesses and being a National Champion in martial arts to managing BIG feelings, anger, and frustration with somatic coaching & therapy concepts.

You'll also hear how Mike uses a "Stop, Drop & Roll" technique to manage stress and conflict with his wife and children which has helped him to be a better partner to his spouse and Dad to his kids.

It's easy to forget that when the women we love are upset, they just want to be heard. They aren't asking us big, strong men to fix the problem immediately, a lesson Mike has learned and now manages with his superpower and calming presence. Enjoy!

  • Mike Green is a loving husband, father of two amazing kids and a trusted voice in the FRD Brotherhood. Professionally, he’s an ER physician who has been able to shape and sculpt his life around creating memories with his family, even while working long hours, including 24 and 48-hour shifts at the ER.

In our chat, we went deep on the pitfalls of being a people pleaser and how that can stunt and even derail relationships when we try to be somebody other than our true selves. Mike also shares several smile-inducing memories about his childhood with his Dad, from spending his early years on a houseboat in the Bahamas and the work/life balance mindset he inherited to creating a make-shift aquarium in the bathtub for weeks at a time with live fish and turtles. 🤣

Before we wrapped things up, Mike opened up about what it means to him to be a part of the Brotherhood, to have a safe place to be real and have honest conversations with other men who are all striving to be better Dads and husbands despite having different opinions on many topics. That’s something that definitely resonates with me and probably many of you too. Enjoy!

  • Today, I'm joined by Dr. Robert Glover. Robert is a therapist, coach, speaker, and author of the groundbreaking book, No More Mr. Nice Guy. This is a must-read for men who struggle with expressing their needs and setting healthy boundaries without feeling guilty or shame.

In our conversation, we explored how our childhood traumas set the stage for how we manage emotions and interact in our relationships and how to ditch those "covert contracts" we make with people, assuming they should read our minds and know what we want without us having to say it.

Robert shares practical advice on how to set boundaries in a way that doesn't alienate others and instead draws them in. You'll also hear about the 3 covert contracts that nice guys make with themselves that cause anger and frustration. FRD is solving a huge problem for dads. Our culture has turned “Dad” into a joke. Go ahead, google Dad and you’ll find Dad Bod, Dad Jokes, Dad Weed, etc. Culturally, it’s a Homer Simpson mentality, and it’s BS.

Our community is built for solid men. Men with range. Those who are badass, and know there’s still more to learn, together.

Most guys find it hard to find “their crew.” Finding other committed men, who are successful in life, and want to put family first – these guys are rare. Is this you?

In FRD, hundreds of men from all over the world show up for each other, to share resources and raise the bar of fatherhood (our core values)

  • Fellas, today's episode is near and dear to my heart because I'm here with my very own Front Row Dad, Rick Vroman. Many of you are likely aware of my father's impact in shaping the man I am today, but we're digging a little deeper here and going back to my father's childhood and taking a peek into our own evolution as fathers.

You'll hear what it was like for my father to grow up with a pretty demanding dad and his experiences and importance of hard work and providing for his family. But we'll also get into some fun stuff like fishing trips, where our athletic bloodlines and my entrepreneurial spirit come from, and some family traditions that go way back.

We talked about the bond we share of never feeling pressured to follow in our father's footsteps, why my Dad never tried to nudge me toward a specific career or path in sports, and how the best parts of moving around so much as a child allowed me to explore and reinvent myself.

Finally, we talked about our Family Cornerstones document that my Dad created when I was very young, why he wrote it, and how much that document still means to both of us to this day. Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there!

    A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through…

Rick’s childhood with a very demanding father Carving your own path is sports, not your Dad’s Wishing for more heart-to-heart convos Parenting goal: Make the next generation better Embracing responsibility, hard work and persistence The different seasons of fatherhood Being happy by NOT following in your father’s footsteps What if we made different choices as young fathers? The Vroman’s Family Cornerstones and core values Rick’s vision for the future in his relationships

  • Gentlemen, I am here with real estate mogul Brandon Turner. Brandon is a real estate investor, podcaster, bestselling author, entrepreneur, and founder of Open Door Capital LLC. He's built a world-class real estate empire closing on a billion AUM, he's recognized as one of the foremost experts in real estate and led the BiggerPockets podcast to 100 million downloads—just an all-around legend.

We talked about how he balances his time between business and family and how his faith and religion have shaped him into the amazing Dad he is today. Brandon explained how his success skyrocketed by not letting indecision become the decision, learning how to trust and manage risk, and also how to delegate instead of abdicating. And perhaps surprisingly, could his love of playing Monopoly have revealed the billion-dollar secret to success in real estate at a young age?

You'll hear his thoughts on involving your kids in real estate deals, the importance of scheduling some "no kids connection time" with his wife, and what he's doing with the BetterLife Tribe to donate a billion dollars to fight human trafficking. Brandon also talks about how he's using AI and ChatGPT to create adorable bedtime stories in real time with his kids and how he makes time to play on their level, literally.

Last but not least, I asked Brandon a question that he's never been asked before, and you'll want to hear the incredibly moving story that came from it. This episode is jam-packed with much more, so buckle up and enjoy!

    A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through…

Trust vs Risk and Delegate, Don’t Abdicate Crisscrossing the frozen ice with Dad to McDonalds Don’t do what I do! No yelling allowed! Enjoying some “no kids” time with your spouse A deeper level of faith, spirituality & Christianity Evolving and staying away from politics Connecting by hosting sleepovers for your friends & family Homemade bedtime stories using AI & ChatGPT Playing on your kids level, on the ground floor The billion dollar real estate lesson from Monopoly Why real estate isn’t for everyone Buying real estate with and for your kids Challenge: Describe your kids in a single word Thoughtful gifts of writing notes and letters to your kids

  • We're very fortunate to have so many legends in the FRD Brotherhood, and today's guest, Dr. Kelly Flanagan, is definitely one of them. Kelly is a psychologist, consultant, speaker, and author of several books that profoundly transformed my views on marriage, family, relationships, and friendship.

In our conversation, we talked about how easy it is for couples to get triggered by seemingly minor things. Even after decades of expertise in understanding the human psyche, he still deals with this in his relationship. You'll hear how he's become aware of when his heart is closing and how the key to managing marital conflict is to keep your heart open.

You'll also hear what Dr. Kelly is doing with his Humaning Substack and how you can join 14,000 other subscribers. He's using his platform to share inspiring stories of how we can improve our reaction to stress and crisis by not fighting against the current but instead being present enough to find the updraft as an easier way to reach our destination.

One last thing, if you appreciate this episode, I’m offering to send you a copy of any of Dr. Kelly’s books. Simply leave a review, take a screenshot and send it to us with your address to [email protected] and I will gladly purchase the book and send it to you. (This offer is for US residents only due to international shipping costs).

    A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through…

Own your emotional baggage before you share it with others Dr. Kelly’s superpower Love is always about opening up What to do when you notice your heart’s closing Being open-hearted is just as important as hitting the gym Love is not a solo journey Join Dr. Kelly’s Humaning community What separates the FRD brothers from other men To understand love, embrace pain and suffering

  • I'm joined by fellow FRD Brotherhood member Ray Bayat. Ray founded NetCo Investments, Inc. along with Mitch Bayat in 2002. But if there's one thing you should know about Ray, it's his dedication to being an amazing Dad and husband, always striving to improve in every role he plays.

Today's conversation is all about growth. Ray shares his journey growing up in Iran during the revolution, his family's sacrifices (especially his Dad, who was tough-as-nails), and how that experience molded him into a more understanding and evolved parent and loving husband.

Ray believes real growth happens when we're uncomfortable, and he's making sure his children learn that lesson early. Despite being teenagers, his kids have traveled to dozens of countries, exposing themselves to different cultures, ideas, and ways of life.

Ray also talks about how grateful he is for his amazing wife, Katrin. From parenting to business, she always pushes him to be better and has been invaluable in helping him achieve his goals and stay grounded.

    A Wide-Ranging Conversation Through…

Make sure you add value to every interaction Everyone is a work in progress Growing up during the Iran revolution How like-minded men help you grow faster How a Tony Robbins event transformed Ray’s marriage Supporting his son through grief A better way to deal with your kids’ temper tantrums Choose her every day Raising brave adventurers Ray’s message to future FRD members

Dane’s personal health journey is beyond inspirational. Having been diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease when he was 22 and there were times when Dane couldn’t walk and was hooked up to a feeding tube. Defying the odds, he completely transformed his health using holistic methods instead of relying on conventional heavy-duty antibiotics and medicines.

In our conversation, you’ll hear the routines, supplements, and life hacks he used to become the best version of himself. Dane’s philosophy is actually quite simple: forget about quick fixes.
