FRAZZLED is back for season 2, and I'm starting with why we need to do less to achieve more, and why our pushing for more, is actually stopping us from getting things done, slowing us down, and impacting our performance.
And, because I've known that I've still been doing too much this year, despite saying I'd do less, this felt like a great place for FRAZZLED to restart.

I recently had to have a word with myself.
Even with all I know about the need to rest, how to prevent Burnout, how to stop exhaustion and fatigue, and how to reduce stress, I've been stuck with a bug for almost four weeks.
And I feel awful.
And my default was to keep going and just 'push through'.
I stopped myself and realised that rest was what I needed, but I kept resisting it.
Because my inner critic was telling me rest does not equal success. That I only needed to keep pushing for a few more weeks and then I'd have my Christmas time off.
And yet, if I had kept pushing and made myself even more ill, surely that would be hypocritical. Can I talk about this Burnout stuff and not live it myself?
Why was I resting rest?

"Our people don't have time"
"What do you say to all of the people who can't find the time to put themselves first?"
I hear these things a lot, and now I have just one response and whilst it may hit pretty hard, it's sadly the truth.
If you do not make time for your wellness, you will be forced to take time for your illness.
And I don't know who that quote belongs to, I've definitely been saying it for years, but I'm seeing it do the rounds on social media, so it's come from somewhere.
And it's true.
Of course, you probably won't believe it, because Burnout won't happen to you right? (rolls eyes)
None of us are immune to Burnout!

Today, I have realised for the first time in my life, that my company, does not need to have my own personal values.
And more specifically, my own business does not need to have my personal values.
Because it's not me, and it's not about me.
My business is about my clients - which of course I knew - but it's important that my company values are best placed for my clients.
And yes, there's a crossover of course!
BUT, even more eye-opening, is that I've realised that I was comparing the toxic Exec team in the toxic workplace that caused me to reach Burnout, to my own values, and not that of the organisation.
So, in actual fact, I was adding to my own stress. I

I've been away from home for 12 days, and I have five days left on retreat, in the sun, in the quiet, facing the seas from the mountains, where I'm fed and pampered daily.
Sounds wonderful right?
And for the most part, it is.
And I'm grateful that I get to do this every year. It's also hard, emotionally and physically.
Change brings with it the messy middle, the part where you're not in the old anymore but you're also not in the new.
The part that feels like walking through treacle, and you know you can't turn back, but you don't want to keep moving forward.

I'm in Kerala on my annual yoga retreat, and this episode comes as a result of not getting what I asked for the childish strop that materialised, and the learning and calm that followed.

Comparison can add to our stress, make us push harder, and leave us feeling unworthy, and whilst a little bit of healthy competition is good for us all, it's not when it starts to impact our health.
The incredible Jamie Kern Lima is launching her second book WORTHY later this year, I've pre-ordered it and I can't wait to read it, PLUS a ton of bonus goodies.
A second book, also called WORTHY is being released later this year. It popped up on my social feed this weekend, and it's written by Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Two awesome women, two awesome books, same title.
And whilst there may have been an 'oh sh!t' moment when both publishers saw the names were the same - I am 100% confident that neither of these women saw this as unhealthy competition, and in many ways, it could actually boost sales of both books.
Many of us might though have seen our 'competition' do something we want to do, and immediately stopped, panicked, or worried that the 'other' will be better than us.
It doesn't have to be this way! I will support everyone who does similar things to me because I know it's needed, and I know I'm not for everyone.
PLUS, only I can deliver my stuff, my way. My people will work with me, and the people who are meant to work with others in my lane will work with other people.
I don't need to stress about what others are doing, I just need to do me.
And you can do the same.
