Segments 1 and 2 – Review of the weekend games
Additional Notes:
1.Jackson Chourio had his 150th at-bat on Friday. It’s a win, but not a confident win. Are you disappointed in his performance, or is this what you thought coming into the season would happen?
a.Joey Wiemer gets demoted, and Oliver Dunn is back up. Any interest?
2.The Mets – WOW…on a brutal stretch. Diaz with another blown save. Lindor absolutely quitting on a pitch. He said he could pick up the spin and was hoping the pitcher would throw a ball. What???
3.What happened to George Springer?
4.Wyatt Langford has started his rehab and should be back soon. Would/should the Rangers send Evan Carter down in a corresponding move? He’s not been good and is not going to get in better, hitting against lefties while on the bench.
5.Jordan Beck broke his hand and will be out for a while. That’s a bummer.
6.News flash – The Yankees are really good. They have the best record in the American League. And, Gerrit Cole is starting to ramp up

1.Real or Memorex – These players are all playing well and are outearning their draft slots. Is this a new level or is a correction coming?
a.David Fry (Cle, 67th catcher [Drafted in only 48 leagues out of 5000 in the NFBC], 6th ranked catcher) - .338 BA, .476 OBP, 5 HR, 32 RBI
b.Connor Joe (Pit, 88, 11) - .277 BA, .345 OBP, 6 HR, 2 SB, 25 runs, 22 RBI
c.Jordan Westburg (Bal, 32, 7) - .288 BA, .339 OBP, 7 HR, 5 SB, 24 runs, 29 RBI
d.Maikel Garcia (KC, 20, 5) - .263 BA, .308, 5 HR, 11 SB, 28 runs, 32 RBI
e.Jose Caballero (TB, 40, 11) - .257 BA, .315 OBP, 2 HR, 17 SB (8 CS), 21 runs, 14 RBI
f.Brent Rooker (Oak, 73, 8) - .288 BA, .361 OBP, 11 HR, 2 SB, 23 runs, 32 RBI
g.Jarren Duran (Bos, 35, 12) - .271 BA, .342 OBP, 2 HR, 11 SB, 30 runs, 20 RBI
h.Jo Adell (LAA, 245, 15) - .242 BA, .311 OBP, 9 HR, 8 SB, 25 runs, 24 RBI
i.Brenton Doyle (Col, 102, 16) - .274 BA, .335 OBP, 5 HR, 9 SB, 29 runs, 13 RBI
j.Brandon Marsh (Phi, 89, 28) - .252 BA, .323 OBP, 6 HR, 8 SB, 16 runs, 23 RBI
2.We joked when Cal Quantrill got traded to the Rockies last November, but he’s getting the last laugh. His season looks a lot like his breakout season in 2022. He’s posting a 3.59 ERA, but not striking out a ton (about seven per nine) with three wins. He’s even pitching a sub 4.00 ERA in four starts at home.
a.Should I be excited about this or is this a mirage?
b.He should get traded at the deadline, but with the Rockies do it?
3.Josh Hader has settled down and has pitched much better of late. Should we look at him as a Top 3 closer again?
4.I actually liked Nick Gonzales entering this season and he made my target list for Draft and Hold Leagues. I’m sure people thought I was crazy, but he’s been ok. He looks like he’s turning back into the player that he was in his first two years of college – a contact hitter with doubles power and 10 to 12 home run pop. Your thoughts?
5.Is there any reason to expect Eloy Jimenez to play more than 100 games a year? He’s done 120 for two seasons, 55 and 84, and is hurt again. Do you just avoid rostering these injured-riddled players?
6.Xander Boegarts fractured his shoulder and hits the IL for a while. I’m assuming Arraez moves to second. Who gets his playing time?
7.Julio Rodriguez still hits the ball hard (92.6 MPH exit velo) and is still in the 98th percentile in speed, but he’s striking out 28% of the time and walking less than 6% of the time – both career worst. His quality of contact (squared-up balls) is in the bottom 20% of the league. How concerned should fantasy managers be?
8.One question after today’s games…
9.What hitter are you targeting this weekend?
10.What pitcher are you targeting this weekend? -

Take 10 with Tim – Saturday, May 18 @ 8 am
1.The Pirates DFA’d, Roansy Contreras and then traded him to the Angels. Will this be another reclamation of a failed Pirates starter or someone to avoid?
2.How worried are you about Ronald Acuna? The Braves gave him Thursday off as a baseball “De-Tox” day. He’s slashing .245/.354/.342, which looks more like his 2022 season than his 2023 season. Will 2023 be his outlier season?
3.The White Sox acquired Corey Julks from the Astros as he was likely going to be DFA’d. He had some good games last year with the Astros and has played pretty well this year in Triple-A. I would think he would get a chance. Any interest?
4.Who are you most surprised with this season between the following pairs?
a.Ryan Jeffers 10 home runs or Brent Rookers’ 10 home runs
b.Randy Arozarena’s .159 batting average or Corbin Carroll’s .193 batting average
c.William Contreras’ .359 batting average or Jeremey Pena’s .329 batting average
d.Carlos Rodon health or Tyler Glasnow health
e.Ranger Suarez arguably being the best pitcher in the league to-date or Shota Imanaga arguably being the best pitcher in the league
f.Dylan Cease’s bounce back or Jack Flaherty’s
g.Tanner Bibee’s 4.34 ERA or Michael King’s 4.31 ERA
h.Kyle Finnegan’s league-leading 13 saves or Suarez’s 12 saves
i.The Astros’ 18 and 25 start or the Blue Jays 19 and 23 start
5.A lot of people drafted and have kept Jasson Dominguez on their benches/IL. He’s rehabbing now. What are odds he starts back in Triple-A after his rehab?
a.Should managers be prepared to drop him or still hold onto him?
6.I released my updated Top 400 Prospects to our Patreon subscribers and the Top 100 for everyone. Let’s do one segment on questions you might have. Just a handful. Maybe certain players, when a guy might be up….anything.

1.Paul Skenes will make his Major League debut today (Saturday). He’s being hyped relentlessly. MLB.COM has an article entitled: The making of Paul Skenes a ‘one’ in a decade kind of pitcher.
a.Are you starting him?
2.Let’s take a look at the standing since we are getting close to the quarter point in the season.
3.Well, that didn’t last long, as Tyler Black was optioned back to Triple-A. When do you think we'll see him back up?
4.Willson Contreras got hit in the arm by a swing from JD Martinez. I read that the Cardinals had him move closer and given how deep Martinez is in the box, well, it didn’t go well. It’s interesting you don’t see more of this.
a.Who gets the playing time in St. Louis? Are you interested?
5.Kyle Harrison has been great this season, posting a 3.20 ERA. Who are your top two ROY contributors in each league at this point?
6.While we are waiting for the Rays to promote Junior Caminero, the Rays promoted Jonny DeLuca instead, and he’s been great so far. Any thoughts?
7.The Angels put Brandon Drury and Luis Rengifo on the IL. Let’s take a look at the Angels lineup and discuss who is “startable” in a fantasy league.
8.Maybe a question from tonight’s game…we will see..
9.Which hitter are you targeting for this weekend’s FAAB?

Segment 1 – Review the games of the weekend
Additional Notes:
1.We had a trade. Luis Arraez goes to the Padres for a package of prospects (Dillon Head, Jakob Marsee, Woo-Suk Go, and Nathan Martorella
a.Do you like this trade for the Padres? What about the Marlins return
b.Any change in the fantasy outlook of Arraez?
c.c. You’re a big fan of Jakob Marsee and drafted him in numerous leagues this season. Now that he is in Miami, you might get a payoff. What do you think? When do we see him?
d.Woo-Suk Go. What do you think we should see from him this season?
2.John Means looked good on his return to Baltimore. Is he a no-doubt start every week?
3.Christian Scott looked great in his debut. 6.2 IP, 5 hits, 1 ER, 6K/1BB
4.Steven Kwan was pulled from last night’s game with a hamstring injury. Any thoughts if he misses time?
5.Trea Turner hit the IL and Edmundo Sosa is the likely fill-in. Any interest?

Take 10 with Tim – May 3, 2024—There will be only eight questions because one of them is quite long. I will limit it to an hour.

a.Kyle Manzardo (Cle, 1B)
b.Junior Caminero (TB, 3B)
c.Paul Skenes (Pit, RHP)
5.Kyle Bradish made his long-awaited season debut yesterday and looked good. Are you starting him with confidence?
6.I’m really bummed about Mike Trout. He looked great, and out of nowhere, he tears his meniscus and is gone for 2 to 3 months. Given how slow he’s been to heal of late, I would not be surprised if he is out the rest of the season?
a.Give me some names you would grab if you roster Trout.
b.He’s limping to the finish line. Does he make it to the Hall of Fame? First ballot?
c.I’ll provide you my comp for him…I think you’ll like it.

Let’s redraft the first round as if the season started today, but we have all the knowledge from the first three weeks.
1.Let’s do a similar exercise for closers and draft the Top 10 closers.
2.Connor Wong hit his fifth home run on Wednesday to add to his .370 batting average. I have him in a couple of leagues just because my catcher went down. I surely didn’t expect this. Is this sustainable?
3.The Cardinals demote a struggling Jordan Walker. I wrote about this for our Patreon members, and the analytics show some encouraging things. What say you?
4.Heston Kjerstad gets the call. Will you be going after him aggressively this weekend?
5.More moves
a.Cody Bellinger hits the IL with a fractured rib, and your guy, Pete Crow Armstrong, gets the call. Will he get enough at-bats to matter? Is he worth rostering?
i.What about Mike Tauchman to get increased playing time?
b.Kevin Keirmair hits the IL and Addison Barger gets the call.
i.Any interest?
c.Blake Snell hits the IL…insert joke here.
6.Give me the one hitter you are targeting for this weekend’s FAAB? PCA and Hunter Goodman
7.Give me the one pitcher that you are targeting for this weekend’s FAAB? Landon Knack -

Additional Questions:
1.Blake Snell – Yikes!
2.Yariel Rodriguez – Another nice outing. What’d think?
3.As you know, I liked Maysn Winn better than Jordan Walker, but I didn’t expect Walker to be this bad. What happened? His strikeout is up; he’s showing zero power (.283 SLG). WOW!
4.Will Shota Imanaga be a better fantasy option than Yamamoto?
5.Max Scherzer will start a rehab this week. Maybe 3 weeks or so?

a. What’s going on here?
b. Why does their field manager, Kotsay, not seem excited for the kid?

Additional Questions and Observations
1.Holliday has been struggling and over his first three games he’s 0 for 11 with seven strikeouts. Please ease the nerves of Holliday’s fantasy managers.
2.Talk about struggling, Maikel Garcia has been struggling. Do you think he’ll be dropped from the top of the lineup? Demoted??
3.Yariel Rodriguez started Saturday’s game and looked great. 3.2 IP 1 ER, 6K.
a.Kevin Gausman continues to struggle. At least his velo was back. He’s got NY this week. Do you sit him?
4.Bobby Miller hits the IL with shoulder inflammation. Of course, he did.
5.Ronel Blanco gave up a run. I didn’t think this was allowed…
6.Your call on MacKenzie Gore continues to look really good. He was great on Saturday. Granted it was against the A’s, but the stuff looks great. Is he starting to put it together?
7.Talk about great. How about Nick Lodolo’s first outing of the season? In 5.2 IP, he gave up one hit and struck out 10! Holy Moly. Can this guy stay healthy?
