Jamil Jivani was 'booed' from before the March 4 by-election for Durham was called. Booed, by none other than Prime Minister Trudeau. Why was he booed...and who is he anyways? Jamil was not available for interviews during the campaign, and he tells us why. He also tells us why he ran as a Conservative, and what he believes an MP who prioritizes his riding over his party looks like! If you met Jamil Jivan during the election, odds are you did not have 30 minutes with him. Now you do and you can get to know him, just a bit better...whether eventually you boo him, or you cheer for him!

Hockey is still a very white, male world. Even in women’s hockey associations, there are a lot of men. In Clarington, the Clarington Girl’s Hockey Association is now led by a woman: Julie Vanhartingsveldt. Today we are going to discuss how women’s hockey has changed, how it continues to evolve, and how it needs to evolve.
Julie Van Hartingsveldt joins me to talk about the state of women’s hockey in Clarington, and how it came to be that she is the president of this great community organization!
I do reference the AAA Zone organization (led by Cheryl Littlejohn) as the Northshore Wave....not sure where that came from....they are the Northshore Whitecaps with great Seattle Kraken style uniforms. My apologies.

Strong Mayor Powers were introduced to Ontario in a limited way in September of 2022, and more broadly July 1, 2023.
Mayors in Ontario typically are elected by the whole community that they represent, but on their council, have the same voting power that other councillors have, who were elected to represent a portion of their community. In Ontario, that means mayors, even of the largest cities like Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Mississauga and London were expected to build consensus around their ideas in order for them to pass. This would be much more easily done in communities like Clarington where there are 6 councillors in addition to the mayor on Council…versus 20-30 in other places.
Strong Mayor Powers are granted according to The Strong Mayor, Build Better Faster Act so the justification for them is pretty clear.
Adrian Foster joins me today to explain the effect of Strong Mayor powers, the rationale for it, and how he sees that being applied in Ontario...and a few other things.
