  • Ahhh the taper: one of the most questioned and untrusted aspects of training. I get it; you’re training way less in a taper. So, it would make sense to worry about if you’re doing it “right” to not risk losing all that hard built fitness you’ve earned.

Here’s the thing: when you do the taper right, you give yourself a better chance of increasing performance on race day, with doing less work, and without the losing the fitness. Sounds too good to be true, but hey, it is!

The key though is that you do the taper CORRECTLY. And in this episode, we break down everything you need backed by the studies to best structure your taper.

We cover how long your taper should be, how to not lose fitness in a taper, and how to maximize your taper so that you get the best recovery on race day.

Thank you so much for listening to the episode!

  • Even if you follow the best training plan for your next ultra, our minds can work against us to fall short of our running goal.

But there is a way to take control of your mind so that it works FOR you as opposed to AGAINST you. And all it takes is one mindset shift to completely put that into practice.

And when you develop this mindset shift, it will allow you to achieve any ultrarunning goal you set yourself towards. And yes, it sounds like it’s clickbait, but I credit this mindset shift to a majority of the progress I’ve made in my ultrarunning career.

And this episode will share with you that exact mindset shift and action items on how to implement it in your daily lifestyle.

So whatever big goal you have as an ultrarunner, this will be the episode that will show you how to do it!

In this, we cover why our brains tend to limit us, what the most powerful belief to have as an ultrarunner is, how to destroy negative thinking, and how you can make a plan to achieve any goal you set your mind to as an ultrarunner.

  • When we feel safe on the runs, we can fully enjoy it. And when you take the right precautions to feel safer, it can give you much more peace of mind when you’re out there, while also giving you the best chance to protect yourself in case something extreme happens.

Given the recent horrific news lately on runners losing their lives, I felt it was important to record this topic on running safety to help provide resources and tips to stay safe on the trails (shoutout to Joshua for also recommending the topic).

In this episode, we cover safety precautions you can take on both the roads and trails while running to help give yourself the best chance of reducing harm.

We cover safety precautions from violence from others, weather safety tips, precautious measures to take in case of injury, how to handle inclement weather, and gear to use to help increase safety on the runs.

Thank you for listening to this very important episode of the podcast.
