  • This week’s guest on Esther Is In Bits is Dublin based writer Laylah Beattie. Laylah spoke to me last summer about being transgender and what is has been like realising who she really is. She shared the effects on her mental health and the continued harassment she faces. You can find some of Laylah’s work on her website and You Tube channel.

If you are looking for support for yourself or an LGBTI+ person in your life you can contact Belongto, a charity that supports young people.

You could also get in touch with TENI, the Transgender Equality Network Ireland here https://www.teni.ie/.

This is the second last Esther Is In Bits for this series. However my other p'cast, The 80% will return soon to take its place! I’ve been recording interviews for the last few months and I’ve got some good ‘uns so prepare to sellotape yourself to your device in anticipation.

Subscribe to my newsletter at the link in my Instagram bio which is now esthertwonames for all podcasts and other bits. I had too many accounts and it was zapping my brain.

As I'm sure you know, all of my podcasts are always free to listen to but they are not free to make so I’ve now set up a Patreon account should you want to show support for EO'MD. For $5 dollars a month (about four euro) which is the cost of one coffee and a couple of Freddo bars, you will get an extended newsletter plus a recorded version and extra writing. I know money is tight for some so please feel no pressure but if you can afford it, your support would be great.

My thanks again to Laylah for sharing her story. It’s not easy to stay vulnerable and soft and the fact that those qualities are what Laylah has tried to hold onto, in spite all she has endured, is important for us all to remember. I know it’s not always easy but we can only do our best.

Until next Monday invisible friends, toodleoo.

    Esther.

  • THE ENDO EPISODE WITH JEANNE SUTTON

A few months ago I spoke with writer Jeanne Sutton about living with chronic illness, endometriosis something which one in ten women in Ireland suffer with. When she’s not talking about endo on my podcast, Jeanne writes for many Irish publications including Irish Tatler and the Irish Independent. She has a piece in this month’s Tatler called Girl on Fire about the rise in women’s body writing in print magazine. Her debut short story was published in 2019 in the literary journal, Banshee and she’s currently working on her novel. Furthermore, Jeanne achieved a first-class honours Masters in DCU in Science Communicatio i.e she's incredibly lazy. She also has a newsletter which you can subscribe to and support. Jeanne is so funny and smart and talented and I know great things lie ahead for her. She maketh me laugh-eth.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, for all Esther Is In Bits updates follow https://www.instagram.com/esthertwonames/?hl=en and on Twitter https://twitter.com/esthertwonames All The 80% and In Bits updates will be under this Insta now. I've streamlined my social media-I canny take so many apps and accounts.

  • Riiise and Shiiine!

    Hellur and HNY!

The year is 2020 and I am now 93% made up of chocolate of mince pies. We've lost all sense of what day it is after Christmas and our sleep pattern is fooked which is why I decided that the first episode back after the festive break would be on sleep!

It's not always possible, but a solid, restful nights sleep is just as important to our overall health as exercise and the food we eat. We've all heard tales of top business leaders sleeping 7 minutes a day and working all hours of the day as some sort of badge of honour but it's not a habit I admire (ooh get you Esther). I don't have a great sleep record as I work very early and don't go to bed when I should, something I want to change. Whatever the reason for not prioritising sleep (parenthood being a major one) a good nights sleep is what we should all strive for.

I spoke to Erica Hargeden of Babog Sleep Solutions about why we need better sleep hygiene as well as how she ended up making her living as a sleep consultant. It sounds very L.A but business is booming for Erica so clearly there is a market for it.

I also share how I have ended up with a penis toothbrush. Yes. This is my version of clickbait.

  • So here we are. The first ever episode of Esther Is In Bits is up...FINALLY!

My first guest is Anna Ryan who talked to me about how she turned to IVF to help her become pregnant. She talked to me honestly about how draining the whole experience was, financially, emotionally and physically. The process was extremely trying on her mental health but Anna hopes by sharing her story, other women won't have to endure the panic and stress she felt at times. Hopefully if you, or someone you know wants to start a family, this episode will shed light on the process and act as a point of reference.
