In this weeks’ episode Tim chats to Dr Samantha Holdsworth and Leigh Potter who are the team at Mātai Medical Research Institute. Mātai is a not-for-profit research centre in Gisborne New Zealand with an emphasis on advanced medical imaging. Their research will develop their understanding of the brain, heart, and body to deliver health, social, and economic benefits to their local community and globally.

This week we introduce you to Professor Phil Butler from Canterbury University and Professor Anthony Butler from Otago University in New Zealand. Both Phil and Anthony’s research are at the interface of clinical medicine and the technical sciences of physics and computing. Their current focus is the development of spectral or photon counting CT imaging and its translation from high energy physics to clinical medicine. The MARS technique provides 3D colour (spectral) X-ray images of biological tissue.

This week in Elevating Imaging into the Future, Tim is joined by co-host GE Healthcare’s MI Product Leader, Renae Lopez-Buckley. They both interview the charismatic Assoc Professor Sanjay Warrier. Sanjay is a dedicated and compassionate highly respected Consultant Breast Oncology and Oncoplastic Surgeon and President of Breast Surgeons of Australia New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ). He explains to Tim and Renae what drove him down this career path and what part research plays in mammography.

In our first episode, Tim O’Meara introduces you to the team to Prof John Magnussen @ Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia) and Ramy Ibrahim from Fujitsu Australia. You’ll learn how as a part of the project, Fujitsu will apply AI methods to images of the brain generated by GE’s Revolution CT scanner, and then use a specifically trained algorithm to look for life threatening brain aneurysms.

In our final episode we’d like to introduce you to Dr Natalie Rutherford from John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. Dr Rutherford is about to commence a paedatrics research study using the GE Healthcare NM/CT 870CZT and Discovery MI. Moreover, John Hunter is the first hospital in the world to have them both in one department.
