Climate scientists have failed to meet their social responsibilities: to clearly, fully, and accurately inform society about the GHG crisis.

I am a 71-year-old thinker who sees his own death on the horizon. I therefore want to confess my greatest sin: when analyzing the ecological crisis I have committed thoughtcrimes. Specifically, I have used facts, logic, and an independent mind when I should have trusted the IPCC, the Guardian, and the other representatives of the Party and Big Brother. As George Orwell might have said in 1984, I am an environmental thought-criminal.

If you are concerned about the ecological crisis you undoubtedly know that, four decades ago, Exxon scientists warned about “potentially catastrophic events” from rising concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs). You are presumably outraged that the corporation buried these warnings and then funded disinformation campaigns to prevent rational action.

The young need an advocate to protect their ecological interests. Currently they are at the mercy of older generations who are protecting the status quo.
-
Young people, you have been brutally betrayed. Since the 1970s the international community has repeatedly vowed to keep GHG concentrations within safe limits and to protect the environment for future generations. But concentrations are now at catastrophic levels and the environment is rapidly collapsing.
-
The international community has broken its repeated vows to avoid unsafe GHG concentrations. "Net-zero emissions" is the latest instance of this betrayal.
