Matt McGranaghan joins Martin on this Echo Chamber podcast to discuss ongoing bogus self employment cases they are representing in the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) and the implications for RTE workers and pretty much all of us as taxpayers. Martin and Matt lay bare the corruption, the criminality and the gargantuan cost of decades of bogus self employment in RTE and how the process that is effectively illegal state aid has been allowed by Revenue and the Department of Social Protection.

She joins us from Gaza to talk about displacement, the difficult decision to send two of her children outside Gaza to continue their education and the day to day difficultly of living 550+ days under the Israeli war on her home.
Abeer is a remarkable educator and while she shares her personal story of loss, she also shares uplifting stories of working with her students and her friendship with Dr Reefat Alareer.

Ed Note: In this very special Echo Chamber Podcast we pay tribute to our late tortoise shack colleague, Dr Vicky Conway in both the coverage of the new report Still Not Heard, Still Not Safe and in knowing that her work was instrumental in its foundations.
Joining us is the founder of Black and Irish, Leon Diop and Director with the Irish Network Against Racism, Shane O'Curry. We go into some of the findings of the report, the need for Garda to take onboard the recommendations and the lived experience of policing in Ireland as a person of colour.
Thanks to Leon and Shane for coming over for this important conversation and Dr Lucy Michael for her work on this important report.

Martin had a long chat with his co-conspirator, Matt McGranaghan, in relation to the two cases they are currently working on with RTE staff in the workplace Relations Commission. This also a good insight into where the political landscape is when it comes to protecting workers in the face of systemic corruption.

"You don't have the cards" was a crude way for Donald Trump to say that he has the bully pulpit and that he's going to use it. Rejoining us on the tortoise shack is lecturer, author of Tax Haven Ireland and editor of the Irish Marxist Review, Dr Brian O'Boyle and he has as always some great insights to that is behind the rhetoric.
We talk about the neoliberal ouroboros, the dollar in decline and why Ireland needs to have a grownup conversation about our tax haven and whether it is working for the wider society.

Sinn Féin MEP, Lynn Boylan, has had a turbulent return to the European Parliament and that's a good thing given the current state of things at the heart of the EU. She joined us in the tortoise shack to talk about her recent experiences and the challenge of slowing the pace of attacks on climate action and other aspects that fall within the EU's competence.

What would you do if your country was invaded? Well our guest today, Oleksandr Khomiak, out of a sense of duty to his people made the decision to leave his career as an international corporate lawyer and become a military drone manufacturer.
As you’ll hear from him, that decision wasn’t easy, but he felt he had a duty. He also talks about Trump’s abandonment of Ukraine and the wake up call for the EU.

Editors Note: Samah went to great lengths to record this PalCast and as a result the audio is variable, but it is a must listen
Samah Zaqout is a Palestinian graduate of English Literature, who’s studying was ended by the brutal Israeli military ‘campaign’ in Gaza. She endured displacement, starvation and loss for 15 months. She lost her grandfather, who was a survivor of the Nakba and as she explains could not bear becoming a refugee for the second time in his life. “Every place is marked red in Gaza. One day I woke up with a shrapnel next to my head on my pillow.” Tune in for the full important interview.

It's over 11 days since it was reported that nearly 80 percent of hip operations at a Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) hospital were unnecessary, thanks to a leaked expert report obtained by The Ditch.
Since then several members of the Dáil have called for the report to be published and yet outside of RTE publishing what can only be described as a CHI press release, there has been no media coverage.
(We don't understand how such shocking allegations have not created major uproar. Unnecessary surgeries on children!)
The journalist behind that, Pádraig Ó Meiscill, joined us to discuss his scoop and to exclusively reveal that The Ditch have written to CHI and the HSE looking for them to publish the report by Friday morning or they will do so themselves.
The Original Article is available here:https://www.ontheditch.com/nhs-consultant-report/

In this Echo Chamber podcast Martin details what is happening next week at the Workplace Relations Commission and why we are all potential mugs in what doesn't seem to be, despite promises from RTE's top table, a fair and transparent process. Why is our National Public Service Broadcaster, RTE, looking to conduct these important meetings in private?
The details you’ll need to use if you want to help shine some light on this process are as follows:

In this PalCast host Yousef Aljamal and producer Tony Groves talk with Dr Khaled Alser- who is a surgeon in Nasser Hospital, Gaza and who had been abducted by Israeli soldiers in March, 2024 and was finally released from his unlawful detainment on Sept 30, 2024. He is still recovering from the torture and abuse he faced in the Israeli “prison” Sde Teiman and Ofer detention centres.
He tells us about the entire harrowing experience, from working during the Israeli genocide of Gaza, to the siege of his hospital and on through his unlawful imprisonment, humiliation and torture.
Note: Dr Khaled Alser joined us from Nasser Hospital, because even after all he’s been through he continues to work to help the people who need him. A true hero in these dark times.

The Sinn Féin reshuffle resulted in TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Matt Carthy, becoming the party's spokesperson for Justice, Immigration and Home Affairs. So given the problems they had pre GE 2020, we of course wanted to chat with him.
So this is Matt on Bik McFarlane, Israel-Palestine, Lowry's Lackey's, Sinn Féin's mistakes in the last Dáil, the more cohesive opposition and a very broad conversation about immigration.
