In this episode, recorded live and in-person on Boxing Day 2024 with my sister (Amanda) and my brother (Lee), we did a fantasy draft on our favourite TV theme tunes of all time, and had a great time doing so. -
Since we're in the holiday season, and we're in the middle of our 1980s season, it seemed like the perfect time to re-release the SpielbergPod episode Becky and I recorded on Joe Dante's horror comedy classic, 'Gremlins'. And this episode was recorded all the way back in 2015 (it was the first podcast I recorded over the internet, since Becky lived in Canada at the time of record).
One thing I would note, having listened back to this yesterday, when it comes to the recast section it may sound like we're misgendering / deadnaming Suzy Izzard, but, again, that is down to this being recorded back in 2015, prior to us having knowledge of Izzard's gender identity.

Getting creepy at Christmas, this week Kieran, Paul and I discuss the episode 'And All Through the House' from horror anthology show, Tales From The Crypt. In case you're not familiar with this, it sees a woman murder her husband and then get attacked by a derranged killer Father Christmas, and it's directed by Robert Zemeckis. (This is well worth watching on YouTube if you've never seen it before, it's tonnes of fun).

In this solo episode on the film 'Early Summer', I complete the ERRP coverage of Yasujirō Ozu's 'Noriko trilogy'. And there is much to talk about with this movie: how it compares/ differs from the director's earlier work 'Late Spring', visual metaphors the filmmaker uses and how I personally relate to this story.

Okay, this week I once again return to the SpielbergPod archives and to three episodes recorded back in 2015/2016. And these cover 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' (which I covered with Jake), 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' (which I discussed with Paul) and 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' (which Kieran and I talked about). So obviously, these were recorded many, many years ago (before 'Dial of Destiny' was even a glint in James Mangold's eye) but there's still some absolute gold here. And some impressions which, while were genuinely done out of love for these films and these characters, haven't aged well. Soz.

In this episode Kieran and I continue our coverage of classic advertisements with a look at the Nescafé ads featuring the Gold Blend couple (Anthony Head and Sharon Maughan). So you can expect lots of coffee chat (with a little tea talk thrown in for good measure), with Kieran having much to say about Australia's coffee culture. Oh, and the episode ends with the debut of the 90s theme music, as this episode is technically both an 80s ep AND a 90s episode.

Today on the show- as part of #ScottSeptember- I talk about the Ridley Scott film 'Someone to Watch Over Me' and the Ridley Scott directed music video for 'Avalon' by Roxy Music. Two lesser talked about things in the career of the director that I thought it was intresting to find time to talk about during this mini-series.
Anyway, next episode- it's 'Blade Runner'.

Continuing #ScottSeptember this episode sees Paul and I discuss Ridley Scott's iconic '1984' Apple Macintosh commercial (if you've never seen this, I strongly recommend you check this out on YouTube, it's a beut).
Oh, and we recorded this in the summer of 2023 and so when I criticise the government/ the home office, I am slagging off the Conservative Party/ Robert Jenrick. Good riddance, etc.

Okey-dokey, #ScottSeptember continues with this episode- which eagle-earer listeners may note was recorded last summer- where Paul and I discuss Ridley Scott's 'Black Rain'. And there's talk of many of Scott's films in this ep as we spend a significant amount of time discussing the themes running throughout the director's filmography (during which Paul says something about 'Blade Runner 2049' which I 1000% disagree with- though I don't think I address that with him until our forthcoming 'Blade Runner' episode...).
