Welcome to Drone World, the podcast by COPTRZ! In this episode, Sam Denniff & Tom Garnett join us to discuss some of the best stories coming out of January from the Public Safety sector. They also give some great insight into the direction drone usage is heading in for Police, Fire & Search and Rescue teams, as the technology becomes more widely adopted and the standard of pilots increases.
Tom & Sam explains how LiDAR could be used to help police assess shallow graves, natural disasters and map/recreate crime scenes.
Sam says, “Maps and models can be used as evidence now […] What we’re seeing is scans of massive areas of ground and noticing that certain areas look disturbed. For example for shallow graves or areas where evidence has been buried, traditionally you’d have officers walking hand in hand across a field, and spend a lot of money on overtime for those officers. Now you can use a drone and complete the survey in a fraction of the time.”

Welcome to Drone World, the podcast by Coptrz! In this episode, Jamie Cording joins us to discuss the recent collaboration with the University of Leeds. Together with Robert Richardson and Bilal Kaddouh from the University of Leeds, we're revolutionising education for the next generation of robotics students.
Robert explains how students were once assembling UAVs without the foundation knowledge of drone regulations in the UK. This knowledge gap meant students couldn't fully understand how their drones could be used in real-world applications in accordance with the law, until now!
Robert said, "The value for us is in offering the best student experience that we can. It's selfless but also selfish that we also indirectly benefit from their opinion of our quality."

Welcome to Drone World, the drone podcast by Coptrz! Join COPTRZ and Aerial Uptake in a real debate around the public perception of drones with Sellafield, University of Central Lancashire, Northants SAR and Drone Prep. In this episode, we’ll be tackling the following topics:
✔ What are your main concerns around drone technology?
✔ How could trust be increased?
✔ What is the most beneficial use of drones you’ve seen?
✔ Should we be concerned about data and privacy? Why?
✔ How could local and regional governments support drone tech and skills?
Whether you work with drones currently and want to influence government schemes and investment OR you’re completely against drone technology, this is for you!
Amanda Smith, UAV Manager at Sellafield, said: “When we did the first drone flight across the site 4 years ago, every man and his dog came out to see it, they couldn’t believe what we were doing. I think it’s just about getting out there and telling people what you’re doing, making the technology more accessible to people. If they understand what the drone is doing, they are less likely to question it.”

Welcome to Drone World, the drone podcast by Coptrz! In this episode, your host Jamie Cording is joined by Coptrz Academy Alumni, Michael Lowe who has recently started his own business as a drone service provider. Michael has a degree in aeronautical engineering, and when his father mentioned introducing drones into his surveying business, Michael knew he had to be a part of it!
He shares how he took advantage of the help offered by Prince's Trust, a charitable organisation in the UK set up to help people under 30 find jobs and start their own businesses. From securing a business loan to marketing his new businesses, the charity supported him every step of the way. He says, "It actually sparked up a lot of interest within the Prince's Trust because it was one of the first instances they'd really heard of businesses and drones working together. One of the people I spoke to had never seen it and they were really interested in picking up on it!"
Michael also talks about the kit he flys, his proudest moment in business and what's next for FlyLowe Drone Services. To hear this and more, tune in to this weeks episode of Drone World.

Welcome to Drone World, the drone podcast by Coptrz! In this episode, your host George Burne is joined by CEO and Co-founder of Trendspek, Derek Feebrey. Derek tells us what Trenspek is and how the company came about back in 2013. They also delve into the many use cases of the product, from asset inspection to surveying and even the digital recreation of a crime scene. Imagine being able to accurately map a road accident in just a few hours to get traffic flowing again, spoiler alert, you can!
Derek says "Say there's a major car accident on the M25. The cost of having multiple lanes shut during peak hour, if there was an accident that had a fatality, by opening it up quickly after doing a complete 3D model means they do the investigation later and open up the road. In Australia, for a major road in Sydney, it's about upwards of $5,000,000 per hour the road is closed as a cost to the local economy."

Welcome to Drone World, the drone podcast by Coptrz! In part 1 of this episode, your host Kevin Gillespie is joined by serial entrepreneur and COPTRZ cofounder Paul Luen. Paul’s story is one not to be missed, and it was so great we decided to turn it into a 2 part series!

He’s learnt a lot along the way from creating and marketing your product successfully, to attracting, developing and retain a world-class best team. Paul spills his best-kept business secrets as well as the mistakes that got him to where he is today. Paul says,
“I suddenly realised how underinvested I was as a chief executive in my own development and also that of the team that worked within the business. On the 4th January 2009, I went back into the office knowing that 25% of the people in the company wouldn’t have a job the day after. I vowed from that point I would never let that happen again. Because I’d got complacent, I and we were underinvested in our own development.”

But what does the future hold? We asked Sam:
“Beyond visual line of sight will be a big one, it’s already a thing but now the legislation is catching up with the tech. Another one to watch out for is swarm technology which is a bit of a buzzword at the moment, the two big buzzwords are AI and swarm tech, they both sound a bit scary but they’re both not necessarily what you think they are…”

Welcome to Drone World, the drone podcast by Coptrz! In this inspection and surveying mash-up, our industry experts George Burne and James Pick uncover the game-changing applications for the Matrice 300 RTK.
With a catalogue of payloads to choose from it’s no surprise that this is hotly becoming the go-to UAV for organisations around the world. Our experts discuss the sensors like the PhaseOne P3, DJI P1 and the U10, and how these integrations can be used in the real world. George and James also cover how Plowman Craven uses drones to survey rail lines, how one small automobile parts business increased their productivity using drones to deliver spare vehicle parts, and how Michael Jordan uses drones to deliver beer at his private golf course.
George says, "I saw a video of Michael Jordan's golf course, and he is doing drone deliveries of beers, spare balls, whatever it is you need by drone! dropped it just off the tee box, left the box where it was, they went in, grabbed whatever they needed, and I think in this case it was two six-packs of beers and the drone then flew off... There are places up in the north of England who are also doing that on some of their sites for the likes of camping because it's that exciting futuristic element that is needed to set them apart from their competition."
