It was our first time at the convention, but we were able to set up our recording equipment in the Grimdark Hallway, run by our friends from Hive Scum. In part two of a special two part episode, we interview people who attended Under the Dice Fest 2024, a small festival in Massachusetts celebrating miniature-based tabletop wargaming. The festival was designed to appeal to those who shy away from the mainstream iterations of the miniature wargaming hobby, focusing on those who want play the games on their own terms, sometimes outside of the scope of the game rules as written, or those who want to play old games which are no longer supported by their publishers. It is highlighting those who are more concerned with telling a story with the miniatures they build than with creating something that would be optimal in terms of a game’s rule system. In this episode we are joined by Bill Ford, host of Mordheim 2022, to talk about the Vastarian: Dreams of the Pious Open Invitational we recently started on Between the Bolter and Me. We describe the Vastarian setting, and how it is filled with warring Imperial cults, each certain their own ideology will usher in a new age of prosperity for the Imperium. We talk about how Mordheim and Inquisitor influenced the setting and how it offers a way to continue to expand the Church of the Red Athenæum, after Iron Sleet’s Pilgrym event. We also talk about how the writing of Thomas Ligotti shaped aspects of the setting, as well as make some musical suggestions to put you in the right mindset for diving into the setting yourself!

In this episode, we interviewed people at the Rich Grimmond 2023 Inq28 event in Richmond, Virginia. The first interview is with Mike (gundamofficialhobby) and Grant (underworldalliance) talking about their new game Caliban28. The second is with Martin (martin.mccoy.art) and Isaac (weirdingsway), chatting about Inq28 events and the use of Forbidden Psalm for the Rot of Hondious event. The third is with Scott (scotomancer) talking about Heroquest and paint. The fourth is with Jonny (Witchhammerstudio) discussing his amazing “The Breath of Organthus” board. The final interview is with a bunch of the Hive Scum crew, chatting about how they got to the event and other aspects of the hobby.

We discuss what it is like to attend a small narrative/hobby focused event like Mordheim 2022, and how it does not need to be intimidating. We also detail the warbands we used in the event and some of the crazy and unfortunate happenings that occurred in the City of the Damned. We speak at length about things we would do differently if attending the event again or one in the future. We also talk about how YouTube may be helpful to encourage others to try to host their own narrative events. Finally, we talk briefly about what is next for us with Mordheim!

In this episode we are joined by our friend Brad Smith to talk about our most recent experience playing Blood Bowl. We tried to play Blood Bowl in various forms over the years, particularly after the re-releases in 1996 and 2020, along with a stint playing Blitz Bowl. This time we played Sevens, a variant of Blood Bowl that uses a smaller pitch and less players, but largely uses the core Blood Bowl rules. We chat about how easy the variant is to play and how long games take, along with our ultimate opinion of Sevens.

In this episode, we chat about some of the new models Games Workshop previewed at the Summer Skirmish preview. We focus primarily on their showings for Kill Team and Warhammer Underworlds. In the first half of the episode, we discuss the excellent looking Kroot warband alongside the surprisingly disappointing Imperial Navy Breacher models. In the second half, we shift to talk about the Hexbane’s Witch Hunter warband for Warhammer Underworld: Nethermaze. In addition to talking about the quality of the sculpts, we also touch on how they will be excitedly received by the Mordheim community.
