DJ Peejay, also known as Peejay C., was born Paul George dos Santos Cardoso in Darwin, Australia to Cape Verdean parents. Music flowed through his veins from an early age, thanks to a family rich in musical talent. Influenced primarily by his musician brothers, Peejay's journey into the music industry began with DJing at events and parties as a teenager. More than three decades of experience molded this multi-faceted international artist into the force to be reckoned with that stands today.
In 1995, Peejay, his brother (ACC), and a friend (Caly) formed the band “Melodee”. They boldly experimented with fusing R&B and Cabo-Love/Kizomba music, producing a hit single, "Pretty Sexy Lady," featured on their debut album released in 1997. This success marked the start of Peejay’s producing career.
While DJing at African clubs in Lisbon-Portugal, Peejay honed his craft as a music producer. His collaborations with well-known artists and groups in Europe showcased his discipline, work ethic, and talent. Among his significant projects was the album "Depois do Triunfo" by Angolan artist Deusa. Peejay also left his mark on the song "Fantasy World" by Soraia, featured in the "ZonErogen" CD/DVD compilation, which became a hit in Portugal, France, and the UK.
After moving to the United States, Peejay released his first solo album, "Revolution," in 2008. His earlier experiments with Kizomba remixes of Hip-hop and R&B hits culminated in 2009 when he established himself as the originator of R&B Kizomba remixes. His album, “Zouk Fusion - The Remixes,” produced entirely by him, featured standout tracks like the Kizomba version of Usher’s "Trading Places." Its success led to the release of "Zouk Fusion Vol 2 - Return of The Zouk Fusion King" in 2011, inspiring other DJs and producers to follow his innovative path.
Peejay’s versatility shines through his seamless navigation of diverse musical styles, both as a DJ and producer. His extensive repertoire not only embraces Kizomba and African music genres like Afrobeat, but also passionately highlights Bachata, Salsa, Konpa, Merengue, and other Caribbean music styles. This dedication has positioned Peejay as a standout figure in the music industry, continually pushing boundaries and setting trends.
