Brandon Sanderson is my favourite author of all time. He writes incredible fantasy books, including Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive, and wrote the final 3 books of The Wheel of Time. Brandon's output is legendary - he writes books almost faster than we can read them, and he teaches creative writing at Brigham Young University. I recorded this episode with Brandon as a live stream during the 2020 lockdown, and because it was one of my favourites I wanted to share it with you again as a bonus episode.
In the conversation, we discuss how he kept going when his writing wasnβt being read, the question of originality and how we can make the stuff we need to do (work) more fun. Enjoy!

Hey friends, my guest this week is Rupy Aujla - an NHS medical doctor, entrepreneur and podcaster whoβs life changed when he suffered a serious heart condition at the age of 23 while working busy shifts as a hospital doctor. But with the power of nutrition and lifestyle changes Rupy was actually able to reverse his condition. He then started his blog, The Doctorβs Kitchen, which soon evolved into a podcast, best selling books, regular television appears and most recently an app. In the conversation me and Rupy chat about a lot of things: his early days working as a doctor and burnout, how to optimise your lifestyle for longevity and his transition from a doctor to a creator and entrepreneur. Enjoy!

A lot of the time we can find ourselves on this hamster wheel of trying to optimise every waking hour of our days, hyper-focused on time and paranoid about how the decisions we make today will influence our future selves. But ultimately the hamster wheel just keeps on spinning when we donβt take a moment to slow down, reflect and enjoy the moment.
Nasir Kharma is a medical student Kingβs College London, best known for his YouTube Channel, Kharma Medic, where he talks about studying, productivity and what itβs like being a med student. These days we hear a lot of stories about people who start companies at 17 or 18 years old which can make most of us feel as though we've missed our chance - but it's never too late to start a business. Heβs now the owner of multi-million dollar powdered food replacement company, Huel, after founding the company at 37. In this episode Julian gives a masterclass in entrepreneurship and his story will show you how your side hustle has the power to change your life.

The average human lifespan is around 4,000 weeks - this sounds scary but it's also incredibly empowering. Journalist and Author Oliver Burkeman says that facing our finitude and how little control we have over our lives is key to living a truly fulfilling and meaningfully productive life. For many years Oliver wrote a popular weekly column on psychology, happiness and productivity for The Guardian called 'This Column Will Change Your Life' and has recently released his latest book 'Four Thousand Weeks: Time And How To Use It' which looks at how our obsessiveness with being busy and trying to master our time can actually make us more unhappy, avoid important decisions about our future and make us less in control of our lives. In the conversation we discuss what most productivity gurus get wrong about productivity, how you will never get everything done and why you should start embracing the fact of human finitude.

"It's not about what happens to you it's about how you respond when hard stuff happens" - Dr Julie Smith
After practicing as a Clinical Psychologist for over a decade, Dr Julie Smith decided it was her mission to make high quality and engaging mental health education more accessible online. So she started using TikTok as a platform for therapy. A year and a bit later, Julie has built a following of over 3 million as an online educator. In the conversation we talk about her success as a creator as well as deep diving into some of my favourite chapters from her brand new book 'Why Did Nobody Tell Me This Before?' which takes a scientific approach to topics like motivation, self doubt, identity and what it means to live a meaningful life.

As the first season of the podcast draws to a close I look back at some of the most inspiring moments from the season including from conversations with Ben Francis, Krissy Cela, Chris Williamson, Unjaded Jade, Mrwhosetheboss and Dr Grace Lordan.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned from all the guests who've appeared this season is that we should embrace uncertainty and the idea of having a plan is a bit of a myth because really we're all working things out as we go along.
I also want to say a big thank you if you've tuned into the podcast each week and an even bigger thank you if you've left a review on apple podcasts and subscribed because that really does help other people hear about the podcast. I hope you enjoy this season round-up and I'll see you in season 2.
