In the early morning hours of February 1st 2026 Nancy Guthrie, the 84 year old mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, went missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona. In this episode of CRIMINAL APPEAL Dr. Jordan interviews Allison Hope Weiner. Leaning heavily into Dr. Casey Jordan’s extensive media appearances chronicling the case, Dr. Jordan and Dr. Butler-Sweet explore all of the potential theories to explain Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. CRIMINAL APPEAL tackles the criminal appeal of Alex Murdaugh-- the convicted murderer has had his conviction overturned by an appeals court! He'll be tried again, but be careful what you wish for: Alex Murdaugh could be facing new evidence to ensure another guilty finding. In this episode we look carefully at the two "mysterious deaths" related to the Murdaugh family, including the alleged "slip and fall" death of his housekeeper Gloria Satterfield (for which Alex and his law firm received more than $4M) and the blunt-force trauma death of Stephen Smith, the 19-year-old gay classmate of Alex's son, Buster. Will Alex be charged in the deaths of Gloria and Stephen as investigators take more time to look at the Murdaugh connection?🔔 Subscribe for More True Crime This episode is made possible by @askventuralawyoutube | The Accident Law Firm__________________________________Listen on your audio platforms :Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6mljKhf..Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/da2...Patreon : https://patreon.com/CriminalAppeal?ut...Follow along on social :Instagram: / criminalappealpodcast Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...Tik Tok: / criminalappealpodcast Website : www.criminalappealpodcast.comFind your hosts:Dr. Casey Jordan : / drcaseyjordan Dr. Colleen Butler-Sweet : / colleenbutlersweet_phd #alexmurdaugh #alexmurdaughtrial #TrueCrime #CriminalAppeal #crimepodcast Criminal Appeal is sponsored by Ventura Law, The Accident Law Firm. In this episode, we break down the shocking case involving Luigi Mangione and the murder that quickly became a national headline.Nearly a year after his arrest, the case continues to unfold in court. In mid-December 2025, after nearly three weeks of testimony, pretrial suppression hearings in Mangione’s New York state case finally concluded. These hearings will determine what evidence prosecutors are allowed to present during the trial expected in 2026.Mangione currently faces multiple state charges, including murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a forged instrument — along with federal charges tied to the case. One of the biggest legal battles centers around key evidence prosecutors say was found at the time of his arrest. According to investigators, items inside a backpack allegedly belonging to Mangione included a 9mm handgun, a loaded magazine, a silencer, and a red notebook that prosecutors claim contained writings about an intent to “whack” a health insurance executive.Mangione’s defense team is attempting to suppress this evidence, and the outcome of these hearings could play a major role in what the jury ultimately sees when the case goes to trial. In this episode, we break down:• The timeline of the case• The charges Luigi Mangione is facing• The controversial evidence prosecutors want to use• What the suppression hearings mean for the upcoming trial• What could happen next as the case moves toward 2026🔔 Subscribe for More True Crime

On July 13, 2023, authorities arrested Rex Heuermann, a 59-year-old architect from Massapequa Park, in connection with the infamous Gilgo Beach murders that haunted investigators for more than a decade.
The case first gained national attention after the 2010 disappearance of Shannan Gilbert, which led police to uncover multiple sets of human remains along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach on Long Island.Among those discovered were the victims known as the “Gilgo Four” — four women in their 20s who worked as escorts and advertised on Craigslist. Their bodies were found wrapped in burlap within a mile of each other, suggesting the work of a serial killer.
In this episode, we break down the timeline of the Gilgo Beach murders, the evidence that led investigators to Rex Heuermann, and how the case resurfaced after years of unanswered questions.
The episode also includes archival clips from Casey’s coverage of the investigation as it was unfolding, offering a unique perspective on one of the most chilling serial killer cases in recent history.

⚠️ SENSITIVITY WARNING: Listener discretion is advised — this episode includes details that may be disturbing to some audiences.
Nearly 20 years after the March 13, 2006 Duke Lacrosse alleged rape scandal, we revisit the case that gripped the nation. At the center was Crystal Mangum, whose accusations against three members of the Duke University men’s lacrosse team sparked a media firestorm.
In December 2024, Mangum told podcaster Kat dePasqualle she gave “false testimony” in the case.
This episode unpacks the scandal, revisits insights from a past interview for Wives with Knives, and includes a January 2026 prison interview conducted just before Mangum’s February 27, 2026 release for an unrelated conviction.
Now that she has been released, we examine what this case means nearly two decades later — and why it still matters.

*Featuring clips from our one on one conversation with Maryann’s childhood friend Scott*
This episode examines the group dynamics behind the crime. We explore how power, loyalty, and manipulation played a role in a crime that led to the convictions of eight individuals, aged 16 to 24.
To help unpack the psychology and criminology behind this case, we’re joined by special guests Dr. Meghan Sacks and Dr. Amy Shlosberg, hosts of the acclaimed Women & Crime podcast! Both Professors of Criminology. They teach at Columbia, Rutgers, Fairleigh Dickinson and in prison on topics such as: Women & Crime, Race & Crime, Criminology, and Serial Killers. This week’s Side Bar dives into the 'Lost Boys'
ABOUT :
In recent years, experts have started warning about a troubling new trend often called the rise of the “lost boys” — a growing wave of younger and younger males becoming involved in violent crimes, especially gun-related homicides. While overall crime has dropped in many places, the rate of adolescent violence has surged, with some cities reporting dramatic spikes in teenage offenders. Researchers link this shift to a mix of pandemic-era trauma, lack of support systems, easy access to weapons, and a deep sense of social disconnection. It’s sparking a national conversation about how we’re failing young men, what’s fueling this crisis, and what it will take to keep the next generation from getting lost.

This week’s Side Bar dives into the Phenomenon of Hybristophilia
ABOUT :
Hybristophilia is a psychological phenomenon in which someone experiences attraction to another person who has committed violent or criminal acts. Often referred to as “Bonnie and Clyde Syndrome,” it can appear in mild forms—such as fascination with dangerous individuals—or more extreme forms where people actively pursue relationships with offenders, including those in prison. This attraction is usually tied to deeper psychological needs, like a desire to “save” or “fix” someone, a fascination with power, or the thrill of danger from a safe distance. While often sensationalized in true crime media, hybristophilia is complex and rooted in emotional, relational, and sometimes trauma-related dynamics.
