Today Nancy is sharing a new show you might like. A Field Guide to Gay Animals explores sexuality, gender, and joy in the animal world. Animal enthusiasts Owen Ever and Laine Kaplan-Levenson take you on a quest to see beyond the natural world as we know it.
In this episode, Owen, Laine, and a 200 year-old gay tortoise explore the history of scientific research into gay animals. From gay swans, to self-pleasuring elephants, to amorous giraffes, they learn how scientists have been understanding and misunderstanding queerness in nature for centuries. And they introduce a bold researcher in the 1990’s who helped people see nature for what it is - abundantly queer.
