In February this year myself and friend Jean Bouteille drove down to Bemboka on the NSW South Coast to visit Jade, Morgan and Karen of family-owned RYEFIELD HOPS.
Established in 2016, Ryefield Hops uses ex-dairy farming land to produce sustainably grown hops - with regenerative agricultural principles. 2020 was set to be a key turning point for Ryfield with major investments in new processing facilities as well as hop yard expansion. Unfortunately, last summer as we all are aware saw unprecedented bushfires coupled with the ongoing drought which resulted in a null harvest for Ryefield in 2019/2020.
Despite these set-backs Jade, Morgan and Karen are as committed as ever to continue their mission in supplying high quality sustainably grown hops for craft brewers. Our conversation covers the history of the property, how Ryefield was established as well as fascinating insights into hop growing processes.
If you would like more information or would like to contribute to their recovery phase visit ryefieldhops.com
Thanks for taking the time to listen to this very special conversation.
