Kevin is a licensed marriage and family therapist, the author of two books, and in 2020 he established The Chronic Hope Institute with a “mission to increase education on addiction and its impact on the family system.” We discuss his own story with addiction and how he overcame that and found his passion for helping others through his personal journey in recovery.

  • In episode 3, I ask my listeners to honestly reflect if they can be “connected” and “content” at the same time? Does technology bring you a general sense of JOY? I share that I absolutely LOVE social media, and I unapologetically overindulge on my phone. I love the ability to be connected and have visibility into my friends and families lives. However, I have no doubt by the end of this episode you will understand why I personally feel a HUGE responsibility to evaluate my own cell phone habits and I absolutely want to be a better example for my own children, and the younger generations, so that we can be left feeling hopeful and not hopeless!

I think we can ALL do better, I think we can all BE better, I think we can all HAVE better habits with technology, and we OWE it to the future generations to take this seriously!

    Xo,

    Alyssa

  • Today I share, authentically and vulnerably, with you all my own thoughts and reflections about purpose, passions and gifts. My hope, as always, is to empower others to think outside the box and maybe in another way that you have not previously been challenged to think about.

What if we have been overcomplicating the whole idea of purpose? What if it is really just as simple and basic as…LOVE. One word. And all of us share the same purpose.

Our purpose, or LOVE, is what drives our passions, and our gifts are our skills to serve our passions!!

Guard your purpose, guard love! Not every person that comes into your life is meant to fully understand your purpose. Nor will you be able to fully love or understand other people’s interpretation of love and therefore, their purpose, passions, and gifts. And that’s okay.

If you are in need of a goal, have it be to grow rich in LOVE.

Follow your dreams, follow your passions, keep developing your skills and growing in your purpose to spread love.

Quote reference by Ed Mylett: “You become who you think other people want you to be.”

    Quotes mentioned in EP 2

    1. John 3:16

For God so loved the world he gave his one and only son…

    2. 1 John 4:8

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

    3. 1 Corinthians 13:13

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love.  But the greatest of these is love.

    4. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

    5. Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law

    6. Mahatnma Gandhi:

“Where there is love, there is life.”

    7. Dalai Lama:

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries.  Without them humanity cannot survive.”

    8. Mother Teresa:

“Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do… but how much love we put in that action.”

    9. Mother Teresa:

“Spread Love everywhere you go, let no one ever come to you without leaving happier”

    10. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

“I have decided to stick with love.  Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

    11. Thomas Carlyle:

“A loving heart is the beginning of all knowledge.”

    12. Fred Rodgers:

“Everyone longs to be loved. And the greatest thing we can do is to let people know that they are loved and capable of loving.”

  • In episode 1, I try to eloquently Connect-the-Dots in my own life by giving a brief biography of myself and sharing some key and pivotal moments that I believe made me the person I am today. I cried, laughed and even questioned, "should I really share that!!" I discuss moments of pain, joy, deep love, battling with anxiety and allowing fear to control me.
