[This episode with Dr Wendy Wood is from a YouTube episode aired on 28 June 2024. It is released here as a podcast to compliment the episode with Dr Kerensa Hocken, which discussed Compassion Focused Therapy in forensice populations, released last Friday (15 November 2024).]
One of my most watched videos is WHAT IS COMPASSION FOCUSED THERAPY, from back in 2020! In this video, I speak with Dr Wendy Wood from The Compassionate Mind Foundation (CMF) about LEARNING COMPASSION FOCUSED THERAPY.
Wendy has a long history teaching and supervising psychotherapy and counselling, and has helped create the DIPLOMA IN COMPASSION FOCUSED THERAPY at CMF. And the diploma course beautifully integrates CFT principles into its admissions, tuition and assessment, so that people can thrive and become part of a supportive community.
She mentions CFT and chair work, trauma, forensic populations, running CFT in groups, masterclasses, case studies, supervision and the role for deliberate practice. For anyone interested in becoming a CFT therapist, the diploma course at CMF is definitely a great way to go!

In this episode of Compassion in a T-Shirt, I sit down (and stand up) with Dr. Neil Clapton, a UK-based clinical psychologist with a passion for radically embodied compassion.
Neil’s innovative approach takes compassion beyond the mental and emotional realms, connecting it with the physical body through martial arts.
He is the co-founder of Fierce Compassion Martial Arts, alongside Dr. Syd Hiskey, where they blend Compassion Focused Therapy with the discipline of martial arts, helping people channel emotions like anger into constructive, compassionate action.
In this conversation, we explore the power of embodiment in compassionate practice and how this can transform both therapy and daily life.
Tune in to learn about how compassion can be something we feel, think, and live physically through the body!

In this enlightening episode of Compassion in a T-Shirt, I have the privilege of sitting down with Professor Bill Miller, co-founder of Motivational Interviewing and Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico, to explore his profound new book, 8 Ways to Hope: Charting a Path Through Uncertain Times.
Together, we dive deep into the eight facets of hope—desire, probability, possibility, optimism, trust, meaning and purpose, perseverance, and hope beyond hope—while also examining the delicate balance between hope and fear, and the choice to hold onto hope even in the face of despair.
Professor Miller shares timeless wisdom, backed by science, as well as poetry and quotes, that illuminate the essence of hope and its power to transform lives. We also tackle the concept of false hope, and what it means to cultivate a hope that is both realistic and enduring. This conversation offers rich insights for anyone seeking hope, purpose, and compassion in their journey. Oh yes, we do also speak about compassion!
Join us for a thought-provoking, soulful discussion that will leave you inspired and uplifted...and, dare I say, hopeful!
