Listeners know there is nothing more I enjoy more than turkey hunting. The allure of the spring woods being awakened to the thurnderous gobble of a mature turkey stirs my soul like nothing else. It is refreshing when I get the chance to talk with kindred spirits.
Today, Jon Goodwin joins me again on a conversation with Travis Sumner. Travis has "been there and done that" in the world of hunting turkeys. From years spent with NWTF, to conservation groups, and mentoring new hunters. Decades as a member of the Mossy Oak pro-staff and more. Talking about turkeys, managing turkeys, managing habitat for turkeys and living a life loving people and his Lord Jesus Christ. Travis is the real deal. I am sure you will enjoy this conversation as much as we did.

Today Jon takes a unique look at the Great Commandment, found in Matthew 22, and challenges our listeners to get curious about their neighbor. After all, how can we love people if we do not seek to know them better?

Kayak Fishing is picking up popularity all across the country with more and more anglers preferrig human powered boats rather than the giant gasoline engines. Kayak fishing poses it's own set of skills and challenges which is what draws many anglers to this activity. As such more and more tournaments have begun with kayak anglers. Bass fishign tournaments, redfishing tournaments and more are gaining popularity.
Chase Carlock of Southwest Indiana Outdoors joins us today to discuss all things Kayak fishing and how he got started and where he is now in the world of Kayak fishing bass tournaments.
Chase also shares with us his journey with his faith. Being reared in church, moving away and finding himself returning to his roots. I guess the scripture is true that if you raise your children up in the Lord they will nto depart from it (paraphrase)

This week Jon asks a simple question; what do you need to say yes too?
Saying yes can be terifying especially when we feel unqualified. The Scriptures are littered with men and women who were not qualified but still were called into the service of our Savior. How can this be possible? The simple answer is this: our Savior is qualified!
This week devotion shares the following Scriptures:
Exodus 3.11; 3.13; 4.1; 4.10; 4.13
Isaiah 56.8-9
Ephesians 3.20

When you do not have a mentor in the outdoors what are your options? At the age of 30 Johnny Mack made the decision he wanted to start hunting. He signed up for his hunter education course in Washington state and took to it like a fish out of water. No one to guide him, he plowed into YouTube videos, and poicking peoples brains to find out all he could about hunting. 4 years, later he took his first big game animal. A black bear in the backcountry of Washington. His story of that day, hunt and more is what led him to begin Soul Seekers Podcast where he shares his knowledge of hunting and beginners with the workd through his platform.
More than 300 episodes later, Johnney, now a Texan, uses mentorship to teach conservation and the good that comes from hunting. His passion for hunting, and passing on the legacy of hunting is central to his mission with Soul Seekers. I am sure you will find this show to be entertaining and enlightening.

This past Sunday Christians all around the world celebrated the resurrection! Celebration was happening because we know the entirety of the story. But what about those early Christ followers who were struggling because they had seen their Savior get crucified. The emotions were high.
Today, Jon takes a look at one of those followers. A follower who struggled and rejoiced. Who wept uncontrollably and then hugged Jesus uncontrollably as well. Jon discusses some lessons we can learn from the life of Mary Magdalene in the resurrection about found in John 20.
Hope you all had a blessed Easter. Praise be to God! He is risen!

In this episode of Devotions with Christian Outdoors Jon takes a brief look at some of the details surrounding the Triumphal Entry during Holy Week.
Jesus reveals His heart for the spiritually blind.
Jesus reveals His heart for the nations.
Jesus reveals His heart for the marginalized.
Matthew 21.1-17; Luke 19.41-44; John 3.17
-
Seven days that changed the world. From a triumphal entry into Jerusalem, to a hill called Golgatha, to an empty tomb. It all happened in seven days.
The sacrifice of Christ cannot be overstated. God became man and took on the sin of the whole world, so that YOU would not have to carry the burden of sin. For six hours he hung on the cross to take away the sins of the entire world...for YOU. His death is our hope in eternal life with him. his resurrection is proof that our souls live forever. We can choose to live forever in the presence of God, or forever separated from God.
Join Jon and me as we celebrate Holy week.

Walking the halls of the turkey show a few weeks ago, I was flagged down by today's guest. He was working the booth of Backwoods Mafia, an appareal company that has solidified their space in the outdoor market. Our conversation quickly moved to his other company American Threads, where he customizes appareal inhouse for clients.
But what really stood out about Landon was his drive as an entreprenuer and his passion for Christ. We instantly began sharing our faith stories there in the halls of the Gaylord Convention Center and today is no different. Landon has a great story of his faith driven companies and his faith driven life.

This week Jon discusses four lessons from a lady known as Rahab the Harlot. While Rahab does share the same middle name as John the Baptist, her last name is not exactly something to be proud of. However, there are least four lessons we can learn from her life and apply to our own lives.
Scripture: Hebrews 11.1-2; Joshua 2, Romans 8.28; Luke 23.39-43; Matthew 1.5; Isaiah 64.8
Lesson #1 - Don't be ashamed of where you have been rescued from.
Lesson #2 - Your past does not determine your future.
Lesson #3 - It is never too late.
Lesson #4 - God is not done writing your story.
God desires to shape your lives into something beautiful my friends!!!
As always, if you wish to further dialogue about this, please feel free to reach out to Jon at [email protected].
