More Bible Study on some text that sends me down countless rabbit trails. In this episode I start with the text that limits the office of pastor to certain types of men. Then I quickly get distracted explaining why it takes a while to change things, like flags in the sanctuary (and how they first got there). Finally pulling it back to the qualifications for Overseer to end it out.
Enjoy!

My first attempt at sharing my bible studies on the podcast. Let's see how this goes.

Who they are, why they are the way they are, and how I came to know all this information.
A potentially useful, potentially entertaining explanation to one of the internets most misunderstood groups.

Some people were curious what kind of theology a Christian furry might have. So I interviewed the head admin of the Christian Furry Fellowship to trick you into listening to a substantive theological discussion on denominational differences.
Did you expect just a bunch of meowing or something?

I've never been a furry, and I started out by despising them, but now many of them are my closest friends. This is the story about how I came to love the oddest of my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Does Closed Communion CAUSE division? Or just acknowledge it?

There are actually benefits to fighting about doctrine. I discovered 3 of them this last week.

Often it can feel divisive to insist on specifics of Lutheran theology, after all, wouldn't it be easier to get along with others if we overlooked the things that make us different?
But if Christ was specific with His love for us, then we have an obligation to be specific in how we act out our love for others, in what we practice, believe, and teach.

I am begging you at this point to pay attention. The world is telling you that being an involved parent is a bad thing, that its invasive, controlling, everything except responsible.
If you knew how active and involved the secular world is in trying to raise your children, and how they are doing it, you would be desperate to claw back every ounce of influence you still have in their lives.

Does that verse in 2 Peter 3 mean that God just doesn't understand time? Is this why He was so confusing in describing the 400 million years in Genesis? Also, what will the new heavens and earth be like?
Finally, let's get into the texts and sermons for Advent 2 (3 year, B) and advent midweek for 2023!

Being annoying can be a good thing, God even desires that we attempt it in our relationship with Him. Though atheists and other Christians might not desire it so much, there are ways that it is a benefit there too.

In this episode I discuss the reason I'm going to be taking a break from the historic 1-year lectionary and giving the 3-year a shot. Why some might prefer one over the other.
I also dip lightly into the text from this previous Sunday's 1`-year reading, the Last Sunday of the Church Year, finishing up the episode with the audio from the sermon delivered from the pulpit.
A good 10-minute chunk of the audio describing the texts was lost, so there is somewhat of an abrupt cut between the first section and the sermon. Still good though.

Dr. Ortlund does not believe that the Bible describes a 6-day creation. I would like to know what text leads to his conclusion instead.
In this response video I hope to explain why the objections aren't enough to conclude with an alternate reading of the text. I don't believe it is enough merely to say that vagueness in the text allows for alternate readings, but would like to know how someone reading the Bible should be expected to come to those conclusions, and why.
