Winter tourism in Harbin, capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, has begun to heat up.
Since early October, searches and bookings for Harbin winter tourism products on various online travel, group-buying and social media platforms have been steadily increasing, more so than during the same period last year, according to a recent Harbin Daily report.
Data from major online services platform Meituan shows that searches for winter activities such as skiing, ice fishing, snow hiking, and aurora and rime viewing in areas around China have increased by 72 percent. Among them, Harbin has the highest search volume, with attractions such as Harbin Ice and Snow World, Harbin Ice Wonderland and the Yabuli Ski Resort dominating interest.
Hotels and guesthouses in Harbin have already begun preparing for guests to ensure they have a comfortable, enjoyable experience.
Data from the Harbin Market Supervision Bureau shows that in the first nine months of this year, the number of accommodation providers in the city has increased 198 percent year-on-year.
"Two new hotels located in the north of the Songhua River in Songbei district will open in early November," said Zhang Xinyu, the person in charge of Bochen Chain Hotels. "We have three hotels in the south of the river, and the two new ones are expected to provide our customers with a beautiful view of the Songhua River outside their windows during their stay."
As Harbin is gearing up to host the 9th Asian Winter Games in 2025, Harbin Madieer Group Co is fully leveraging its strengths to provide high-standard service guarantees to tourists across the world, according to the company.
For instance, its Modern Hotel, which is located on Central Avenue, is undergoing renovations and is upgrading its guest rooms to welcome the arrival of the Asian Winter Games and the ice and snow season.

Despite its name, Modern Hotel boasts a history of over 100 years.
Among the city's scenic spots, Harbin Ice and Snow World, which was recognized in January by Guinness World Records as the world's largest ice and snow park, is the most popular. This winter season, it will be expanded from 810,000 square meters to 1 million sq m.
After 25 consecutive years of operation, the 26th Harbin Ice and Snow World will fully integrate Asian Winter Games elements to create a more dazzling park combining ice, snow, sound and lights.
Liu Yuanqi, an English teacher in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, said she is already looking forward to the winter holiday and is paying attention to the ticket sales information of the Winter Games.
"During last year's Hangzhou Asian Games, I watched several matches in my city," she said. "This winter, I hope to visit Harbin to enjoy ice and snow, as well as the unique charm of ice and snow sports."

President Xi Jinping has highlighted the pivotal role of Central China's Hubei province in the nation's modernization drive, calling for greater strides in sci-tech and industrial innovation, ecological conservation and deepening comprehensive reform and opening-up.
Speaking during a fact-finding trip to the province from Monday to Wednesday, Xi stressed the need for the region to forge ahead in the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and to build itself into a strategic fulcrum for the rise of the central region at an early date.
The trip took Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, to the cities of Xiaogan, Xianning and Wuhan, the provincial capital.
Hubei, with a GDP of 5.58 trillion yuan ($777.46 billion) and a population of 58.38 million in 2023, is not just an economic powerhouse but also a region deeply integrated into China's broader economic architecture. It was Xi's second trip to the province in three years.
During the trip, the president toured a museum that exhibits ancient bamboo and wooden slips dating back to the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) and the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), and he called for unrelenting efforts in archaeological research and the protection of cultural relics.
In Jiayu county, he set foot in a field, surveying the growth of vegetables before shaking hands with a farmer. The development of modern agriculture and building a strong agricultural sector must be underpinned by sci-tech progress, Xi stressed.
The president also visited a village to learn about efforts to ensure that grassroots officials can better perform their duties in serving the people, before sitting down with a family to learn about their jobs, family income, healthcare and pensions.
In Wuhan, Xi toured the Wuhan Institute of Industrial Innovation and Development, where he reiterated the need for greater self-reliance in science and technology and the development of new quality productive forces.
On Wednesday morning, he listened to work reports from provincial authorities and set out clear requirements for their future tasks.
Noting the province's sharp edge in talent and strong capacity in sci-tech innovation, Xi called for stronger steps in sci-tech and industrial innovation. The province must proactively integrate itself into national innovation chains, striving to build a nationally influential hub for tech innovation, and better harness its role as a source of sci-tech breakthroughs, he said.
He called for enhanced steps in pushing for breakthroughs in the research and development of key technologies, saying that a coordinated innovation mechanism among large, medium-sized and small enterprises must be established.
Hubei, located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, must give top priority to the restoration of the ecology and environment of China's longest river, Xi said, and must also stress the development of a secure and resilient modern water network and the unwavering enforcement of the river's 10-year fishing ban, enacted in 2021.
Xi said it is necessary for the province to forge ahead in deepening reform and expanding high-level opening-up, and he called for reforms in key sectors and critical areas, better integration into the unified national market, and the building of a more equitable and dynamic market environment.
It is important to give equal emphasis to domestic and global opening-up, make the province an inland engine for opening-up and advance regional cooperation, he added.
The president encouraged Hubei to play an active part in the high-quality building of the Belt and Road and make systematic efforts to bolster its role as a hub for opening-up.
Xi also stressed the significance of ratcheting up efforts in rural-urban integration and rural vitalization in the province, which boasts a rural population of 20.16 million and which had an urbanization rate of 65.47 percent last year.
It is imperative that the province advance the protection, preservation and development of its rich historical and cultural heritage, while strengthening research and promotion of the origins of the Yangtze River civilization, he added.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is projected by multiple U.S. media outlets early Wednesday morning to win North Carolina and Georgia -- two of the seven key swing states, as votes continue to be counted across the country.
With 16 Electoral College votes, North Carolina is the first of seven battleground states with a clear outcome. At least 270 Electoral College votes are needed to win the presidency.
North Carolina has been a red state in recent years, except in 2008, when Barack Obama narrowly flipped it. Trump won the state both in 2016 and 2020.
Trump won Georgia's 16 Electoral College votes in 2016 before the state narrowly shifted to Joe Biden in 2020.
With Trump on track to take North Carolina and Georgia, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris will probably need to secure all three "Blue Wall" states -- Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin -- to clinch victory. Trump flipped these three states in 2016, while Biden reclaimed them in 2020. Votes in these three states are still being counted.

President Xi Jinping has urged the parachute force of the People's Liberation Army Air Force to make all-out efforts in training and combat preparedness.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, said that airborne troops have special and important roles in the PLA's structure and battle system.
He said the force should adapt to the Air Force's transformation, use comprehensive measures to better train its troops, and spare no efforts to improve its overall combat capabilities so that it can become a mighty and modernized airborne force.
Xi made the instructions on Monday as he inspected the headquarters of the PLA Air Force's Parachute Corps, located in Hubei province. This was the first time for Xi to inspect the parachute force.
Xi listened to a work report from the corps' top commander and recognized the force's achievements.
He said that all members of the force must always remember their missions and duties, enhance the sense of combat readiness and focus on the preparation of military operations.
More efforts should be made to study and work out new fighting patterns and tactics to make the best use of the airborne force's unique advantages, he added.
Xi said commanders should improve basic and specific training, organize full-element, systematic and scenario-specific combat exercises, and send their soldiers to more interservice drills to hone joint operation capabilities.
Moreover, Xi told the corps to build new fighting prowess and utilize advanced science and technology to facilitate its development.
He also said that the force must complete all of its tasks to make sure that its missions set by the Party can be accomplished according to schedule.
Before making the remarks, Xi met with a group of officers and soldiers from the Parachute Corps and had a guided tour of the force's weapons and its military history museum.
He said the corps should strengthen its hardware research, development and deployment, and urged it to uphold its glorious traditions and promote them among soldiers.

President Xi Jinping and Finnish President Alexander Stubb lauded the development of the China-Finland relationship over decades during their talks in Beijing on Tuesday, and agreed to deepen practical cooperation as well as expand people-to-people exchanges for greater progress in bilateral ties.
Stubb, who took office in March, started his four-day state visit to China on Monday, which marked the 74th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Finland was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic ties with China and the first Western country to sign an intergovernmental trade agreement with China.
Xi said that China and Finland have respected and trusted each other over the years, setting a fine example of state-to-state relations that transcend historical, cultural and institutional differences.
The economic ties between China and Finland are robust, with Finland currently being China's third-largest Nordic trade partner and China being Finland's largest trade partner in Asia for several consecutive years. Last year, the two-way trade volume reached $8.2 billion.
Xi told Stubb that China welcomes Finland to actively participate in China's modernization drive and to expand cooperation in emerging industries such as green transition, the digital economy and new energy.
He also announced China's decision to implement a unilateral visa-free policy for Finland, saying that more Finnish friends are welcome to start businesses, travel and study in China.
Noting that both China and Finland are peace-loving nations that advocate multilateralism and free trade, Xi called on the two countries to jointly address issues such as climate change and the governance of artificial intelligence, in order to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world.
Recalling his meeting with Xi in 2009, Stubb said the world was a very different place back then, and China has grown in the past 15 years in a way that was unimaginable for many.
The Finnish president said his country adheres to the one-China principle and values China's important influence and its stabilizing and constructive role in international affairs.
Noting that China and the European Union are closely interconnected in terms of economy, Stubb said the "decoupling and disruption of industrial and supply chains" or a new Cold War would not serve the interests of any party.
Finland is willing to play an active role in promoting the smooth development of EU-China relations, he added.
The two leaders also exchanged in-depth views on issues including the Ukraine crisis and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Xi said that China is ready to make joint efforts with Finland and other relevant parties to continue working for a peaceful settlement.
After their talks, Xi and Stubb witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents covering areas such as education, environmental protection and the circular economy, and issued a joint working plan to advance the China-Finland future-oriented new-type cooperative partnership.
Wang Yiwei, a professor at Renmin University of China's School of International Studies and director of the university's Institute of International Affairs, said this is the first time that a Finnish president is visiting China since the Nordic country officially became a NATO member last year.
Wang noted that Finland and some European countries are looking forward to learning from China's experience in green transition and the digital economy, given the country's remarkable achievements in recent years.
"The two sides enjoy great potential for cooperation in environmental protection and climate response," he said.
On Tuesday, Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, also met separately with Stubb in Beijing.
Vice-President Han Zheng and the Finnish president attended the 5th China-Finland Committee for Innovative Business Cooperation Meeting in Beijing, along with more than 100 government and business representatives from the two countries.
During his trip, Stubb will make a stop in Shanghai, where he will visit Fudan University and attend a business summit, among other things.
The last time a Finnish president visited China was five years ago. In 2019, then president of Finland Sauli Niinisto led a Finnish delegation to Beijing.

The systematic protection and unified regulation of cultural heritage should be conducted with respect for history and a deep love of culture, and by upholding principles such as prioritizing preservation and minimum intervention, he said.
Xi also said efforts are needed to enhance China's cultural soft power and the appeal of Chinese culture, and to promote Chinese culture and carry out various forms of cultural exchange and cooperation with other countries.

The directives from Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, were conveyed to participants at the 15th National Civil Affairs Conference, held in Beijing on Friday and Saturday.
Lauding the new progress achieved in all aspects of civil affairs in recent years, Xi emphasized the paramount importance of the people's well-being in China's modernization drive. He also urged Party committees and governments at all levels to adopt a people-centered approach in resolving the most practical problems that are of the greatest and most direct concern to the people.
In addition, he called for more efforts to implement a proactive national strategy to address issues of aging, and to improve work in social assistance, social welfare, social affairs and social governance.

The endeavor to modernize China, a nation of 1.4 billion people, presents a unique challenge that no other industrialized nation has ever faced, and civil affairs work will play a crucial role in this drive toward modernization, experts said.
Such work encompasses a range of services, including child welfare, elderly care, social welfare, social assistance, marriage registration, charitable programs and funeral arrangements.
The modernization task is further complicated by the aging population.
As of 2023, nearly 300 million Chinese were age 60 or above. Official projections indicate that by 2050, this demographic group is expected to make up one-third of the population, leading to a substantial increase in demand for elderly care services.
"The Ministry of Civil Affairs has strengthened its policy framework, diversified care options and enhanced regulatory measures, resulting in significant improvements in elderly care services," said Li Yongxin, a deputy director of the ministry's elderly care services department, earlier this month.
Li noted that the number of elderly care centers and facilities in China had risen to over 410,000 by June, with 369,000 of them being community-based. This marked a 100 percent increase in elderly care facilities and a 120 percent increase in community-based facilities since 2019.
Despite the growing number of caregiving facilities, China is still grappling with a shortage of caregivers, with only 500,000 available in 2021 to meet the nation's needs.
To address this shortfall, authorities have advocated home-based care, enabling seniors to remain in their residences while receiving regular visits from community workers and medical professionals.
According to ministry data, since 2021, around 350,000 seniors have benefited from home-based care.
In addition, authorities are increasing the supply of caregivers through creation of more caregiving majors in higher education, with around 100,000 students having been enrolled each year as of the end of 2023.
