  • Hannah Prewitt a former marine biologist, sits with me overlooking a beautiful morning on the shores of Dicky Beach.

In this episode of Chasing Clarity she tells me of her worldwide travels, being mentored by famous surf photographer Joli, moving to Noosa and the trials and tribulations of going pro in her creative passion.

There's plenty of learnings in this one including some advice on gear.

  • Tom Woods and I met at an Aquatech event, I'd gone to support Sean Scott (not that he needs my support) but I'd met him through the Gold Coast Community and we'd talked about getting him on the show....something that hasn't happened as yet...anyway, I was perusing the gear, talking shop to one of the staff and Tom approached me, " I know that voice...you've got that podcast right?" We got to talking and I quickly decided he'd be a great guest, something he was shy on. Over the next few months, Tom and I have been in contact..I've been a closet fan of his YouTube videos and the content he puts out.

We met up at his local coast, the Sunshine Coast, a trip I rarely take. "I've got a 92-year-old, wheelchair-bound, gambling addict Aunty that I need to take for her fix, before I see her let's shoot and record," I suggested.

In this episode Tom shares a mountain of knowledge, I talk a little too much but still manage to absorb many of his learnings.

Tommy's the real deal and a great example of how chasing clarity has fulfilled some of his dreams and afforded him a lifestyle many are envious of.

  • I've been apprehensive about releasing this, episode 20.

It's always daunting bearing a little of your soul on a public forum, how much sharing of your personal life is too much and how much is actually related to the topic of the show, a feel-good show about something we do...it's simple, we love the ocean and we enjoy being creative around it. One of the topics of discussion is mental health, my anxiety, my partner's bipolar and some of the challenges we've faced. I write this to inform you that we briefly touch on these, some deeper topics and offer forewarning.

We mostly keep it light, around ocean imagery, my previous guests and our surf photography journey. Travis also introduces a new segment to the show which I don't think I answered properly at the time of the interview. lol. As changes go, I think it'll be a regular spot.

It seems a little self-indulgent not only releasing an episode about me, but releasing it on my own show....but.....

hopefully, you find the conversation interesting, a little entertaining and ultimately helpful. It's hard to admit publicly the chinks in the armour I've spent a lifetime hardening.

  • "I'm the happiest I've ever been!" The Don says to me as we exit the water one afternoon. Once dry and walking to order our favourite Little Mali treat I turn and invite him back on the show to tell the world how he's progressing in his surf photography journey. In this episode I'm stoked to bring you a conversation with an artist that has progressed leaps and bounds since our last conversation nearly a year ago. It brings me joy to see the hard work and sacrifice we all go through as creatives be rewarded. Trav tells me about some of his gaols he's ticked off and some more that are on his hit list. He talks about some of the things he wishes he had of done differently and what he would advise to someone in his previous position.

We don't get too technical in this one, but what we do discuss should provide you the stoke to grab your gear, get out there and get some water on ya!

  • In this episode of Chasing Clarity I speak to Larisa Cevallos or as she's known to most 'Sweet Ocean'.

Sweet Ocean is a GoPro family member, we talk about how she achieved this and what lessons up and comers can take from it.

What Larisa lacks in size she makes up for in passion and a pure unadulterated desire to heal the planet. She spoke with joy about her love of whales as a storm rolled in over the ocean disrupting us mid conversation....after a quick dash to shelter she recounted an occasion of frolicking with a playful pod, the experience of a lifetime.

  • Amanda takes a seat opposite me. We overlook a crowded part of the ocean, not for over, away from the crowds the sea is still, we swam together taking images of surfers earlier that morning.

Our eyes are red and our bodies weary as we settle in for a chat about water photography, droning, shooting weddings and the time she was swooped by a shark.

In this episode I also address the reasons I have missed a number of scheduled Eps. For those wonder...I should be back on task.

  • The Froth brothers 1 + 2 join me on the show in this episode. They are shy lads out of the water and it was a snap decision to get them on. We had just surfed and shot a little favourite wave across the border. Geoff, as always made me look better at surfing than I am.

These two are responsible for me wholeheartedly getting into IN water photography, coincidently I had met them unplanned at the same spot we spoke at years previous. I had finished a drone and dawn long exposure session, was walking back to my car and noticed some surf photographers bobbing about in the small waves. I'd just purchased a GoPro after looking at Geoff's images online, I returned to the beach with it ready to go and sheepishly ducked under a wave, uncomfortably joining a fraternity I was unfamiliar with. "Hey Odell!"..."Odell!" I heard a voice coming from one of the backlit bodies I'd seen bobbing about. His face was in full shadow and I couldn't make out who it was with the sun shining in my eyes, I politely nodded half swimming away, "It's me Geoff."

In this episode we talk about how the boys got started in Ocean Imagery, what it means to them to shoot and we cover off on some how-to's for other creatives.

  • At 6'3, 120kg Grant Morris, The Aqua Zulu takes up a large portion of the pre-dawn light as he approaches my borrowed NSW-plated car..."Just fit it in there" he says sounding like a bigger version of Tony Greg, his thick South African accent breaking the dark 5 am silence. I flew in the day before and stayed on the other side of the bridge, an hour away. I left at 4 am, drove for the first time on Sydney streets and had already, in my short stay managed to piss two local drivers off as I crossed the iconic Sydney Harbour. They weren't shy of blasting their horns. I guess it's a way of communicating in the big city, it must be, because everyone does it....often for no reason. I figured they must have heard this show and were saying hello. I waved.

This conversation takes place overlooking one of Grant's favourite places to shoot mini's (mini waves) and we discuss all things water photography, surf photography and ocean imagery. Grant left a troubled South Africa with nothing but a suitcase and a dream of a better life. Today, 10 years on, the Aqua Zulu is making others' lives better through the act of teaching.

Listen in again as another artist chases his clarity and drops some knowledge bombs for you to decipher.

  • Adam Sellars, an Australian Free Diving representative sits with me overlooking a little beach on the Sunshine Coast. I sought out this discussion with Adam after getting smashed in a recent swell while shooting.

The overwhelming feeling of being at the oceans mercy and short of breath was magnified as I found myself, heavy camera in hand, eyes closed, swimming toward what I thought was the surface...only it wasn't. Arm outstretched I touched the rocky floor and in an instant became disoriented and tumbled as another set wave sucked my legs from me threw me around again....when I did resurface I gasped, only to cop another on the head. The impact zone and the mighty sea don't give a rats about you, but Adam does, and in this conversation he gives you and I actionable tips to avoid that overwhelming feeling of needing a breath.

He's a wealth of knowledge and breaks down in an easy to understand way how the body interacts with water and just how much we are a part of the ocean.

  • The King of Clarity himself joins me in this episode. It was a balmy morning on the Gold Coast, we grabbed our takeaway coffee and snuck into a little patch of quiet that didn't stay quiet long.

Questionable parking from the pair of us, we were on the constant lookout for parking inspectors and foreign distractions pumping their rave beats at an incredibly early hour for such a high tempo beat....

Nonetheless we pressed on till the conversation started flowing and the golden tips were plentiful.

Mitch Gilmore is the first name many use as their inspiration into the world of Ocean Imagery, he casts a burly shadow when meeting him first hand, tall, built and with facial hair that puts my pre-pubescent growth to shame,

plenty are correct with their description of his mild nature.

I first met Mitch on the sandy shores of the Gold Coast, unfamiliar with his follower count or his quality GoPro-only work, we were introduced by a mutual friend. He's an instant nice guy, welcoming conversation and keen to gel over a mutual love of the ocean it wasn't long until I heard his name in my photography circles.

In this conversation, we not only delve into the life of a GoPro family member but also a little into his family and take a peak behind the curtain of the most requested guest so far.

I have a very special competition for you this episode, DMC fins, Mitch and I have teamed up to offer one lucky listener the chance to win their very own set of DMC fins!

They are the fin of choice for both of us and they've gotten me personally out of a couple of heavy beatings in the ocean...but that's not all...not only do you receive the DMC fins you'll also get a coaching session with the pair of us on the Gold Coast.

  • "What's up with your sunglasses in the water"..."Are they just regular sunnies?" I ask Scott Amos as we settle in for a conversation next to another Gold Coast body of water.

Scott's distinguishable from other surf photographers by his sun-cap and Oakley sunglasses, years of constant glare have left his eyes vulnerable to direct sunlight "Never wear the polarised lenses" he says, "You can't see the rear lcd of the camera!"

Previously shy and stand offish in the water Scott tells me how an injury brought him from surfing to surf photography and now how his favourite thing to photograph is wave riders and the stoke it provides.

He tells me of a recent run in with a surfer and their fins, his unique 3 camera set up and a charity thats brought him a huge amount of joy.

  • 16 years of filming some of the best surfers on the planet is what Craig Halstead brings to this episode.

It's scorching hot on an early morning overlooking the famous Kirra right-hander, today a waist-high, fuller tide swell crumbles along the famed point. "There hasn't been a decent swell for a while now!" calls an older gentleman hunched over in pain and shuffling toward me. "I still get to the beach at

Craig directs me to a seating area and we begin our conversation for the show. Just like the daily clips he creates, his penchant for storytelling is matched by few and he begins with some straight away.

A lot can be learned by listening to those with far more experience, I hope you'll take away as much as I did sitting with one of the areas long-serving stalwarts.

  • Travis "Don" Johnson's head bobs just above the water in the impact zone. This is where he's most happy, this is where I meet him the morning of our non-scheduled recording.

"The Don" a flamboyant child of the 80's had attended the first-ever Water Rats event two weeks previous and had expressed his desire to be among the likes of Zac Noyle in the lineup of Pipeline.

"That's a pretty big goal big fella." I remarked, "I'd be keen to hear about it".

Travis is a relative newcomer to the world of ocean imagery, specifically surf photography. He has a hunger I recognise.

In this conversation, we pick apart that hunger and take on board the many lessons he's learnt from the likes of his idols Ted Grambeau and Corey Wilson.
