The Cult have prepped Joy to be Amity’s vessel. She is adorned in flowers and a brides dress. She is a clean vessel ready for the taking. Annie, Chance, Abdi and Nadia have worked out a play to blow things up once Annie and Chance have gotten Joy. But things never go as clean as the plan. Annie & Chance sneak up to property. Chance is moving slowly, liked an enthralled person, towards the house. Vera sees her and says NO and other join her. Chance is captured by the deputy. Annie cannot get through to Abdi & Nadia and so she runs to the house and gives up the plan in order to save Joy. While Pop two other cult members search the tunnels, Annie is kept outside. Abdi & Nadi blow the charge beneath the statue, right before the ceremony begins. The destruction of the statue and freeing of the bugs, breaks the enthrallment and the people begin to run. Joy stabs Augustin and leaves. Annie finds Joy and they are reunited.
They get back on the road. Annie discovers a Misery book and begins to read to Joy. Annie is taken away into it ‘s world. They enter Canada and Annie sees a poster for a home health nurse. Annie and Joy have the run of the place. Joy is slowly coming around. But she will not talk about Maine, doesn’t want to change her hair color, is watching things in French and denying phone calls. Annie and the voices in her head are suspicious. She looks in Joy’s drawing book and is horrified. She suspects Joy has been implanted with Amity. She drugs her to get answers. Joy denies it and tries to run off. Annie drowns her and returns to the house in a daze. She finds a letter to her from Joy. It says that she was going away and working with a lawyer for emancipation. Distraught Annie runs to the water and revives Joy.
We see a happy Joy and Annie having fun, driving, getting ice cream and more. Joy sketches a perfect likeness of the house calling it the Laughing Place. They go to a book signing for Misery’s Love. We suspected things, but here they were confirmed. We see Annies mother and father in the crowd. A man asks if Joy’s seat is taken and Annie says yes. As Paul Sheldon begins to speak we see the seat is empty. Joy died and Annie totally broke mentally. Both of them Mother & Child/Sister & Step-sister had blood on their hands and neither got out clean.King Connections:
The connections to Misery are clear with three of Paul Sheldon’s books Misery’s Quest, Misery’s Paradise, and Misery’s Love. Misery’s Quest is the first book in the series. Misery’s Paradise falls towards the end and Misery’s Love was the book before Misery’s Child (that sent Annie over the edge) source data can be found here. We had it confirmed from Pop that the Castle Lake area is a Thinny. This is mentioned in many of King’s works. So our choice of book and audio book is Wizard and Glass (fyi this is what Amazon’s proposed Dark Tower series will start off being based on). Here is a link to the Book and Audiobook.

Caveat Emptor was a hostage situation and battle of the wills. Augustin/Ace needed the info Pop had, but he was not going to give up that easily. Pop realizes that the letters between Warden Dale Lacey & Alan Pangborn are the key. He obtained them when he bought Alan’s trailer after he died last year. He pours over the letters. Augustin and the cult got to Dale’s wive, killed her and took her over for info on the Kid. She does not have any info, but knows about the letters and that Pop, the Collector, has them.
Pop heads to the hospital and finds Nadia and what happened to Chris. They are getting ready to leave when Chance arrives warning them of the Cult killing the people who didn’t respond to the noice and statue. They race to the Emporium but are stopped just short. The gun battle is not going well, when Abdi slams into the Cult’s car and kills them. The Resistance locks down the Emporium and sets up Pop’s pressure cooker bombs around the doors and windows. They discover Annie and her crew and question them. After Jamal is discovered, the Cult shows up outside.
Augustin calls Pop via CB and introduces himself. He offers safe passage out for Abdi, Nadia and anyone else in return for Dale’s papers. Pop says that he burned them, which he does later. Augustin calls Pop out for hitting Ace a lot as a kid. He say he ruined all four of the kids in his care. The battle of the wills via CB continues to ramp up. Augustin says they will kill Pop and take his memories of the letters, but offers to do it easy. Pop say no on retires these days. He says he has wired up a suicide vest and will kill himself first. So Augustin sends in the Cult.
Pop is buying time for the others. Abdi, Nadia, and Chris played a game as kids, They ran across the railroad tracks to escape Ace. The train is a mile long and takes a long time to get through town. The Resistance intends to do the same thing now. They fight their way though the Cult members and make it to safety. Pop makes his way back to his office, killing along they way. He injects himself with the mind altering drug on the way. When he arrives at the office Augustin is there. Pop attempts to blow himself up, but it fails. Ace kills him.King Connections:
All the floors and layers of the Emporium reminded me a lot of Jonsey’s Memory Warehouse he is trying to get info while being pursued by the enemy. We see the resistance fleeing across the railroad tracks to escape. It reminded me of the train scene from Stand By Me/The Body.
We have Annie trying to get her way with a man strapped to a bed and dishing out vengeance on him like in Misery. Pop is called the collector and his Emporium holds things that people will give anything to get to. That plus the mentions of the Mellow Tiger take me back to Needful Things. Here is a link to the Book and Audiobook. Check out the movie from Amazon or iTunes.

Annie and Joy have been taken to the Marsten house and Ace is there to greet them. The cult has switched out Annie’s medication with placebos to try and make the weaving process easier. But she is having vision of her mother. Crysilda is telling that they want to use Joy and there is only one way to keep her clean, kill her. Annie is popping pills and brewing tea to try and calm down. But one of the cult members sees Joy’s drawings and takes it to Ace/Augustin. They realize that Joy’s drawing style resembles Amity’s. Ace finds out that Joy is not on any medication and a untainted vessel. So he locks Joy up in the Attic to await the weaving.
Annie’s visions of her mother are getting stronger. She sees the door to the basement open and investigates. She finds dead bodies there. Joy is missing and Annie get the info out of a cult member before killing her. She has to take out another with a sledgehammer (hello Misery shoutout). Finally she and Joy are reunited, but Crysilda is begging for Annie to get them out clean. Annie goes to choke Joy, but the memories of baby Joy snap her out of it. They sneak their way to the back door. Outside they find a crowd of enthralled citizens. They are sneaking out when spotting. The crowd begins to move and the two are separated. Annie is captured and Joy is enthralled.King Connections:
This week did not have a lot of connections. We see Annie with the sledge hammer and she wields it just like in Misery. We also have two small shout outs to The Shining. We see a wet and decaying Crysilda speaking to Annie. This reminds me of the woman in room 217 who appears in both The Shining and Doctor Sleep. We also have Annie with the big chef’s knife ready to defend her child just like Wendy did.

Amity Lambert (Mathilde Dehaye) was the daughter New Jerusalem’s head man and the lover of the pastor Pere Augustin (David Alpay. Their crops are dying and they need a word from the Lord. Amity lays all the blame at her father’s feet. When she tries to testify she goes into a seizure. She is chained up and Pere Augustin pleads for her. But her father, Marius Lambert (Thomas K. Belgrey), knows that the Pere has been sleeping with his daughter. He kicks them both out of the town. They wander towards what will be know as Castle Lake. He is taken ill and she is looking for food. Up on the cliffs, where Warden Lacy will one day drive off of and Henry Deaver disappear from, she finds a fire and a figure. This angel of light is really a demon in disguise. It is The Kid (Bill Skarsgard).
Amity makes a deal with the devil and her town is flushing again. She is hailed as their prophet. She has her father and his men burned on upside down crosses. Those who will not follow her directed teachings of the angle are kicked out. Amity and Pere desecrate the church and erect a carved image of the angle. But the deal goes bad and hunger returns. Amity is desperate to get an answer for her people. The bugs we have seen all season come swarming out of the image and Amity has her answer.
They dig under the church and create the catacombs. They build coffins. Each member of the town are fed one of the bugs and then their throats are slit. They will return in new bodies in 400 years. Amity gives final instructions to Pere before he kills her and then himself.King Connections:
The flashback to 1619 takes place before the King story of Jerusalem’s Lot, but it still reminds us of it. It also reminds us of how the evil of the Vampire in Salem’s Lot could be attracted here. We see a lot of art on the walls of the Marsten house. One reminds me of the Dark Tower. Pop’s brother-in-law is in Shawshank for the murder of his wife. Tim Robbins played a man accused of murdering his wife and put in Shawshank in the Shawshank Redemption. We see a boy in a clown costume with a balloon in the parade, could this be a shout out to IT? A small shout out in the parade was that beautiful 1958 Plymouth Fury. It was a shout out to Christine, so it is our pick of the week.
This week’s book is Christine. Here is a link to the Book, Audiobook and Movie.

Rita has moved from California to New York to escape her past and joined AA to help with her addictions. All she wants to do is find her Evangeline and be the mother she was meant to be. She makes it to the Rock and finds Chance, who stonewalls her. But Vera overhears and finds her later for the cash reward. Annie sees her and runs back in the house.
Joy has been taken to a group home by Nadia and the next morning a CPS agent Bannerman talks to her through the door. He asks about her work, if she has documents on Joy and wants to come in. She lies and puts him off. She heads to the group home to talk with Joy. However the receptionist says Joy is talking with her mother. Annie watches from the outside, mirroring last episode where she watched her father’s life from the outside. Rita tells Joy the whole story. Joy is shaken to her core. However she will not allow Rita to call Annie her sister. Rita says she is not there for Annie. She wants to know what Joy wants. Joy tells her to come back later. Rita hits the bar, Annie pops her pills and writes Joy a letter and Joy cries herself to sleep.
Joy has Chance break her out of the home and they are hiding in the woods around Castle Lake. Joy has called Annie and she comes with her letter. They talk things out, but Joy just cannot accept Annie due to the fact Annie was going to kill both of them after murdering their father and attempting to kill Rita. Annie says it was Joy that saved them with her laugh and that the only thing that keeps her straight is Joy. Anne leaves and Chance offers to get them to North Carolina where her step-sister will let them stay. But Joy reads Annie’s letter and has a change of heart.
Rita is waiting for Annie at cabin 19. Joy has called Rita and refused to go with her. Rita confronts Annie and calls her out for snapping about the book dedication, because it made her feel small. Rita takes her into the woods at gunpoint. Annie escapes and struggles with Rita. But Rita is about to shoot Annie when Joy yells out “mom.” Both women look at her. Joy dopes Rita with the emergency knock out drug. Rita tries to fire but the gun drops and shoots her in the stomach. Joy is overwhelmed thinking she killed Rita. Annie is trying to save her, when the cops show up. Annie sees Joy and takes the blame.
.
King Connections:
Chance a.k.a. Georgia Lachance is a shout out to Gordon Lachance in “The Body” Stand By Me. The Child and Protective Services agent that questions Annie through the door is Steve Bannerman. Sheriff George Bannerman. He appeared in The Body, Dead Zone, and Cujo.
That woman, Heather, rushed up to Nadia’s car, frothing at the mouth, in a way that is reminiscent of Captain Tripps from The Stand. We the cult/witches killing people and putting them in coffins only for them to rise again. One of the ones waiting to be brought back is Amity Lambert. Mary Lambert was the director of the 1989 version for Pet Sematary. This week’s book is Pet Sematary. Here is a link to the Book, Audiobook and Movie.

Annie has dyslexia, her teachers don’t understand, her peers bully her and she lashes out against them. But Her father Carl, played by John Hoogenakker who has been in Annies visions as the Tall Man, knows a way to help her learn. He will home school her and help her read by having her take his hand typed pages and type them into the computer. Annie’s mom Crysilda, played by Robin Weigert, has strong reservations and she doubts Carl’s ability.Through the years Annie grows and helps her father write his story. Early on Carl tells Annie that anywhere can be her laughing place. To her it is her dad and he is her number 1 fan.
Crysilda puts her foot down when Annie is a year away from her GED. She hires Rita K. Green, played by Sarah Gadon, to tutor. Rita has the ability to gain the trust of each one of the Wilkes clan. Annie thrives and learns techniques to help her read. Rita recognizes Annie’s inteligence and plays to it. That along with an appreciation for Carl’s writing wins Carl over. As the time comes close for the GED, we see Rita is pregnant. She sees Rita as a good and the baby’s father is good or bad not complicated. Her views on morals are based on her mother. Carl has moved out of the house. Annie passes her GED and calls her dad to tell him.King Connections:
Their are obvious ties to Misery with Annie’s Laughing Place, killing of her father and the number 1 fan phrases. This week we met Rita K. Green played by Sarah Gadon. she stared as Sadie Dunhill in Hulu’s adaptation of 11.22.63. For that reason 11/2263 is our pick of the week.

Joy is starting to rebel and takes a chance with Chance and her friends to blow off some steam. Chance comes and asks if she wants to go and look for a dead guy. They have heard Ace is dead and are going to search Castle Lake for him. Joy is resistant at first, but she decides to go. Vera, Timothy, Chance and Joy have a blast out on the lake. They have so much fun because the brownies Chance brought were Pot brownies. It is all fine until they loose an oar. Embolden from the loosened ties, Joy jumps in and get the oar. She hears a weird noice under the water, is it the schisma? At the Lodge Chance tells her to keep her phone on as she leans in for what I thought was a going to be a kiss.
Annie Looses Ties To Reality:
After seeing Ace, Annie suspects her meds are off and asked Nadia about it. She has searched the cabin but found no sign of the murder. She goes to the Somali site but the hole is cemented over. She heads up to the Marsten house. The place is much cleaner and some one is doing some restoration. Annie finds the door to the basement locked. Annie awakes in the catacombs under the Somali construction site. Coffins from the 1600’s are all around her. She cannot climb her way out, but water leads her to tunnels. She follows one to a large wooden staircase. She winds her way up and through the floorboards of a basement. She is in an old house filled with squatters. As she runs from the house, we see it is the infamous Marsten house from Salem’s Lot. It seems that Abdi is trying to build a New Jerusalem over the literal bones of the old one.
We have seen in both episodes this season that large bugs are spreading out from the site and they seem to follow death. The construction continues at the site, they hole to the catacombs is not visible, because Annie somehow covered it over. But one of the workers finds Annie’s necklace. Abdi think’s it is from the squatters in the Marsten so he sends Jamal to clear them out. He finds two squatters burned to a crisp. He is hit over the head with a cain and dragged down into the catacombs. It seems as if something or someone has awoken in the Lot!
Annie is ready to leave and escape her trouble, but Joy is not having it. Joy storms off toward’s Chance’s and re-injures her hand. At the hospital, Joy asks to be seen alone and since she is 16 she can. Nadia questions Joy as she stitches her back up. Under the influence of anesthesia and upset at Annie, Joy searches for Ann Ingalls and herself and finds no record. She questions her mother on it, but her mother will not answer. Annie is in the Jeep with the bugs landing on the windows and sees Ace behind her.Read the rest of the show notes at http://CastleRockZone.com

Annie (Lizzy Caplan) has been on the run from
her past, her family, the authorities, and herself, for all of Joy’s (Elise Fisher) life. But their routine is interrupted when they enter Castle Rock. Annie & Joy land at the Star Gazer Lodge under the control of Ace Merrill (Paul Sparks). Her jeep is being fixed by Ace’s brother Chris (Matthew Allen). Joy wants to make this stop longer to make this their Laughing Place, but Annie won’t hear it. She is a week off her meds and the visions are coming. She finds work at the Deuxvilles Hospital that sits on the boarder of Castle Rock and Jerusalem’s Lot.
She makes her mark at the hospital by organizing everything and putting order to the chaos. This gains the notice of Dr. Nadia Howlwadaag (Yusra Warsama). Annie needs her meds but the finicky lock on the pharmacy door means only Nadia’s key will get her in. She finds Nadia’s address and breaks into her house. She gets the pass key, but Nadia’s brother Abdi (Barkhad Abdi) comes home. Annie is stuck until fate helps her out. She heads back to the hospital intent on getting all the drugs and running, but Nadia catches her. Annie makes a heartfelt confession about needing the drugs to stay a nurse and provide for Joy. Nadia has mercy on her and tells her she will get the drugs Annie needs as long as she works there. With her meds, a helpful boss, and a fixed car, Annie is a different woman. She tells Joy about being a Searcher and a Settler. They are going to settle there for a bit.
But things go bad. Ace comes in and confronts Annie on being Annie Wilkes not Ann Ingalls and Joy’s snooping. Annie Snaps, knees Ace in the crotch, driving an ice cream scoop in his mouth and then down his throat. He is dead. She takes his wallet and the scoop, cleans the place and looks for a pace to get rid of the body. She ends up at Abdi’s Somali Mall construction site. As she attempts to burry him, the ground gives way to a space below. She falls in and is knocked out. Large numbers of huge bugs escape.
Annie’s visions start with an audio cue of a manual typewriter. She remembers running through the woods as a younger person. She is covered in blood and caring a box. The box has Wilkes written on one side and The Ravening Angel on the other. The box has something living in it. She gets to the edge of a lake. We see her with her hands in the water. Later we see her take a baby out of the box. We assume it is Joy. She as visions of the Tall Man (John Hoogenakker) with blood running up his face. It is his voice we hear in her visions. Is it her father? Is Joy really her daughter, possibly a child of incest. Is Joy her sister that she stole from her mother, whom she then killed? Or was it a baby she stole after killing the mother?Read the rest of the show notes at http://CastleRockZone.com

Wayne and Geoff dig into what they enjoyed about the book, Misery, as well as the movie. The discussion on Misery Book is deep, but fun. The movie was well acted, but still lacking. Rob Reiner did a fair job of adapting the book. Kathy Bates rocked Annie Wilkes it will be wild to see how Lizzy Caplan will stack up. There will be no Paul Sheldon, that we know of, in Castle Rock so James Cann has no competition.
King Connections:
Well this season of Castle Rock we are looking at a much younger Annie Wilkes. While this season may not play directly into the Annie we see in the book and movie, it could in some level of the Tower. So we would suggest you take a look at both Misery and Salem’s Lot.
This week’s Book/Audiobook is Misery.Special Interview:
To get ready for season 2 we brought in our friends Fadra Nally & Shannon Entin, from the Stinger TV & Movie Podcast. They attended the New York Comicon and got some scoop series from the Castle Rock panel and an interview with some of the cast. Castle Rock Zone for Castle Rock season 01, episode 10, "Romansr".
Wayne and Geoff share the best of the best scenes from the 10th episode of Hulu's Castle Rock, the season one finale, entitled "Romans". We review and make some sense of the episode, share what we liked (and what we didn't), we point out this episode's "Life Lesson of the Week", dig into the King Connections, and go through the best thoughts and theories from you, the Castle Rockers.
Romans was a season finale that hit us over the head with “For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23 and there was death. Our two Henry’s survived, but have to live with their sin. Will Castle Rock be any better for their actions?
Our Henry is driving around the streets of Castle Rock looking for Ruth. But between the schisma, his stab wound, and stress about almost being killed he is distracted. His windshield is hit by a bird and he crashes and is knocked out. He wakes up the next morning and returns home.
He has had some of his memories come back to him about his last day in the wood with Matthew. He remembers that his dad knew about Ruth and Alan’s affair and was planning to kill her for that sin. Quoting Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death…” Young Henry runs away he makes it to the cliffs at the edge of Castle Lake. He then pulls a Danny Torrence and backtracks in his own steps. Matthew follows the steps to the edge and Henry runs up and pushes him off the edge. It is only then that he begins to hear the schisma and disappears.
Molly spent the evening looking for Ruth and finds her on the Alan Pangborn Bridge. She wants to jump to be back in the hospital to keep Alan alive. Molly says he is dead. Ruth says he is because she shot him, but he is alive in other times. She says Molly has tried to stop her before. Molly breaks her out of it by saying in another reality, Ruth left Matthew for Alan. She takes Ruth home and finds out the scoop about Henry the couple from Jackie.
Henry makes it home and is so happy Ruth is OK. He also hears about Molly’s conversation with The Kid. Henry does not believe The Kid’s story or Molly’s belief in The Kid. But their conversation is interrupted by a call from the CRPD. Wendell has made it back to the Rock following the schisma, but stumbled across the crime scene of Odin.
Henry gets to the station and finds out Wendell can hear the schisma. The police are happy to let Wendell go, but they have a lot of questions for Henry. Between the murders at the Castle Rock B&B, Shawshank, and Odin’s death they want to know what is going on. Henry uses his one phone call to call Molly. She is shaken after her conversation with Warden Porter and her death. She does not know what to believe about the Kid now. Henry makes her promise to take Wendell Boston and keep going and not come back. She does.
King Connections:
Our buddy Troy reminded us that we missed the Maine favorite Moxie cola in last week’s episode. Harmony Hill Cemetery was where Danny Glick was buried before he came back in the book “Salem’s Lot.” Jackie’s laptop has a WKIT on it that is the station King and his wife own. Jackie is writing just like her uncle and wants to make a trip out West. Will we see her make it to the True Knot’s campground on the Overlook’s location next season? Young Henry retraces his steps in the snow to trick his dad. Just like Danny did in the movie version of The Shining. At the end we see Henry working civil cases helping with property rights. He tells his client the property line runs through Wilma Jerzyck’s azaleas. Wilma was a player in Needful Things and died in that book but is alive in the Castle Rock universe. We see Molly spending some downtime with her grandmother in a pink room in a pink house. Plus she is the number one realtor in the Keys. This takes me to the story of Duma Key.Subscribe to the Castle Rock Zone in Apple Podcasts and in Google Podcasts. Castle Rock Zone for Castle Rock season 01, episode 09, "Henry Deaver".
Wayne and Geoff share the best of the best scenes from the 9th episode of Hulu's Castle Rock, entitled "Henry Deaver". We review and make some sense of the episode, we point out this episode's "Life Lesson of the Week", dig into the King Connections, and share numerous thoughts and theories from you, the Castle Rockers.
Henry Deaver was the man, er, men of the hour this week. We learned that The Kid was Henry Deaver from a different reality. To quote The Dark Tower “…there are other worlds than these.”
The Kid’s real name IS Henry Matthew Deaver and he came from another world/reality. In this reality he is the child of Matthew and Ruth, but Alan convinced Ruth to leave Matthew. Ruth and Henry ran off to Boston and Alan quickly followed. Ruth still developed Alzheimer’s disease. This inspired Henry to find a cure. He became a doctor and has found promise in a brain implant. He has a happy life with is wife Marren. They have been trying for a month for a child and she is a day late on her period. But things go off the rails when he gets a call from Alan. Ruth is fine. The call is about Matthew.
Henry heads back to Castle Rock for the first time since he was 12. The town is prospering. The downtown is filled with businesses and the Mellow Tiger is a gastro pub. Henry decided to walk the rest of the way. He passes through the harvest festival, by his dad’s old church which is looking sharpe, and on to his old house. Inside the place is a wreck and almost like a hoarder’s paradise. There are piles of junk, papers and even rotting food everywhere. Henry looks out of his room and remembers the flash lights with Molly. He sees a car at her house and walks over. Molly’s sister thinks he is there to buy the house. Molly comes out and is blown away that it is Henry. They have a drink at the Mellow Tiger. Molly is the city council chair and everyone loves her. In this reality her sister is the screw up.
When Henry gets back to the house a fuse blows and he heads to the basement to fix it. There he finds a boy locked in a cage. It is the Henry from our universe/reality. They police and EMT’s come to check him out. Dennis Zalewski is a Castle Rock police officer and he questions Henry about his dad and The Kid. He says the kid is only saying the name Henry Deaver. The Kid hears the Schisma and makes a run for the woods, but is caught.
Henry questions everything about his past and his dad. He finds a tape recorder and learns that his dad has been documenting the crazy things that have happened in the Rock, the Schisma, and more. Henry fines more tapes in the shed. The tapes are numbered one for each week and there are 1400. 27 years of tapes and Henry finds several that shock him. He plays them for Molly. It turns out that The Kid showed up at Matthew’s back door calling him Dad and saying he heard the Schisma and woke up in the woods. Molly and Henry head off to talk with The Kid.

Castle Rock Zone for Castle Rock season 01, episode 08, "Past Perfect".
Wayne and Geoff share some of their favorite scenes from the 8th episode of Hulu's Castle Rock, entitled "Past Perfect". We review the episode, we point out this episode's "Life Lesson of the Week", dig into the King Connections, and share brilliant thoughts and theories from you, the Castle Rockers.
Past Perfect saw us move in to the Stephen King horror aspects of the show. Gordon and Lilith bought the Lacy home to turn it into a B-N-B with a murder theme, but when Henry shows up things get deadly.
Using her gifts Molly is able to find Henry and free him from The Filter. He is shaken and unsure of everything. He and Molly connect on the drive home. But things are not good at home. Ruth is asleep and the house looks OK, but The Kid is there. Wendell makes it back too. Henry follows The Kid to the shed where The Kid shows him Alan. He says that Ruth was scared and confused and killed Alan. Wendell has called the cops and The Kid slips out the back. Wendell tells his dad about Ruth sending him out and that he slept in the church. Ruth confesses to shooting, but she thinks it was Matthew. He came back and she shot him to protect Henry & Wendell.
Henry has a run in with Officer Reese, but has pined the blame on The Kid. Reese blames him for all the bad things happening and says he is living up the the nickname he had as a kid, black death. Henry sends Wendell off to Boston and says he will join him later. But t seems that both henry and Wendell are hearing the schisma now. Wendell gets off the bus later and heads back to town.
Henry talks with Molly and fills her in on The Kid. The Kid said he rescued Henry and waited 27 years for him. He asks Molly about the Lacy basement and then heads over there. He finds no one at home and breaks in. He seems to remember the basement and then goes upstairs. In finds the room full of paintings of The Kid. He sees that they are all of The Kid at the same age. He checks the date and sees they are from many years dating back to 1991. The 1991 photo is of The Kid wearing the same sweater Henry was wearing in the photo on the missing photos.
After Jackie’s rescue, Henry is in shock when he gets a call from Rev. Appleton. Ruth came into the church asking if Alan was dead this time. He offered to take her home but she left confused. Henry speeds off, fleeing the police. He is trying to find his mom.

Castle Rock Zone for Castle Rock season 01, episode 07, "The Queen".
Wayne and Geoff share their favorite scenes from the pivotal 7th episode of Hulu's Castle Rock, entitled "The Queen". We not only review the episode, we point out this episode's "Life Lesson of the Week", dig into the King Connections, and share numerous thoughts and theories from you, the faithful listener.
The Queen was stunning look into the mind, reality and times of Ruth Deaver. Sissy Spacek gives an Emmy worthy performance of a woman trying to hold on to reality and battle as a timewalker.
In chess the queen can move in different ways. Ruth may be the Queen of the Deaver household, but she doesn’t rule. Matthew is in charge. We see Ruth in the present placing chess pieces around the house to help her cope. As she does, we see scenes from the last few weeks as well as the past when Henry was a kid.
As we walk through her memories, she is able to escape them when she sees and takes hold of the chess pieces. We learn that before Henry was adopted, Matthew had a brain tumor that was removed. It caused him to hear voices, see things and more. Matthew, like Dale Lacy, has seen the horrors of Castle Rock and is questioning God. He tells his family, at a picnic in the woods, he was going to kill himself in the woods unless God spoke to him. God did and now Matthew wants them to hear as well. Ruth just wants him to see the doctor. So Matthew takes Henry to the woods repeatedly to try to get him to hear.
Ruth has a friendship with Alan and she turns to him when the family dog Puck disappears. Alan tells her that they can run away and take Henry with them. They can start anew somewhere else. Ruth discovers that Matthew killed Puck and is pushing Henry to hear the voice. She packs their things to leave, but cannot do it.
