For as long as women have had breasts we’ve been told what to do with them, how to wear them, when to show them, when to hide them and who should have access to them. In order to prioritise the wellbeing of our breasts it’s important we feel in control of our assets so we can advocate for ourselves. In this final episode of Breast Assured, Sarah is joined by Johanna and Brittany from social enterprise Nope Sisters, along with Shannon McAlpine and Shavaughn Ruakere, daughter and close friend respectively of broadcaster Helena McAlpine who lost her life to breast cancer in 2015. Together Sarah and her guests explore some of the strides being made to help us take back ownership of our boobs so we can feel empowered to do whatever it is we want with them and not worry what anyone else thinks! They also share their personal stories of supporting loved ones through breast cancer, and how those experiences gave them a new perspective on breast ownership.

In this episode of Breast Assured we’re getting intimate with our boobs. Last week we talked about changes we need to be aware of, you know, just in case. Now we know what to look out for, it’s time to learn how to perform self-checks. Specialist breast care nurse Judith Beattie is back to help us learn exactly what to do, when to do it and how often. We’ll also talk with mums Georgina Robb and Jane Yee about breastfeeding, because outside of self-checks and breast cancer treatment, there’s never a time you’ll get more intimate with your boobs than when you’re whipping them out every few hours to nourish a pēpi.

Our boobs go through many changes over the course of a lifetime – some we choose for ourselves and others which might come as a surprise. Usually there’s no cause for concern, but on occasion changes that pop up out of the blue can be a sign of something sinister. In this episode, Sarah is joined by specialist breast care nurse Judith Beattie to explore which changes we can let slide, and which ones should be investigated further. Then, to talk about surgical changes to our breasts, Dr. Eletha Taylor and Nina Darrah also stop in for a chat.
