  • In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Lindsey Davis to discuss the obstacles she faced in season as a softball athlete at UTSA & how she was able to redefine her purpose in sport. She also discusses the impact her coaches and peers had on her during this time.

    Lindsey Davis is entering her senior year at UTSA, where she plays on the softball team as an outfielder. Originally from Monticello, Florida, she was the 2019 Offensive Player of the Year for softball, four-time district champion, three-time regional champion, 2019 regional runner-up, 2016 state champion, and two-time state runner-up. Lindsey also competed on the weightlifting team, where she placed third at states in 2020. Lindsey played in 35 games during her Junior year, hitting .250 with 2 home runs.   • In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Jared Jarvi - the two discuss how to use social media as a "tool in the toolbox" as a sports performance/rehab professional.

    Jared Jarvi joined the UNC Strength & Conditioning staff in 2023. He is currently responsible for the design and implementation of training for the women’s lacrosse and rowing teams and is the assistant strength & conditioning coach for women’s basketball. In addition to coaching, he oversees the Sport Science Internship program for Carolina Strength & Conditioning.
    Prior to coming to Chapel Hill, Jarvi served as an Athletic Performance Coach at Penn State, where he oversaw all aspects of performance for the baseball and field hockey teams. He also served as an Olympic Strength & Conditioning Fellow at Michigan, where he assisted in the development of all athletes within Michigan Olympic Sports, including baseball, men’s & women’s soccer, men’s lacrosse, field hockey, and track & field.
    Prior to working at Michigan, he served as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Northern Michigan, where he worked with men’s & women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, women’s basketball, men’s & women’s nordic ski, and men’s & women’s golf.
    Jarvi graduated from Northern Michigan with a major in sport & exercise science. He earned a master’s degree in movement science from the University of Michigan. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach (CSCS), Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS), and Weightlifting Coach (USAW).
    The Chassell, Michigan native resides in Chapel Hill with his wife, Emily.

  • In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Robby Donnelly & Dr. Jason Scopp to discuss Robby's return to sport following knee injury resulting in an ACLr via BTB, medial meniscus repair and lateral meniscus transplant.

    Robby Donnelly enters his junior year at Salisbury University, where he is a member of the men's lacrosse team. Originally from New Jersey, Robby grew up playing lacrosse as an attacker. Robby has faced multiple knee injuries resulting in 2 surgeries and has successfully been able to return to sport despite these setbacks.     Dr. Scopp is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and a pioneer in the field of cartilage restoration, a procedure for joint pain available in only a handful of medical centers across the country. In addition to his biotechnology research on joint preservation, Dr. Scopp specializes in the treatment and prevention of sports-related injuries. He is an internationally featured speaker on the topics of joint preservation, cartilage defects and restorative treatment options.

    Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine and a lifelong athlete himself, Dr. Scopp has been team physician for the United States Soccer Team, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Salisbury University and the Delmarva Shorebirds (a Baltimore Orioles organization), among others.

    Dr. Scopp received his medical degree from the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. His residency in orthopaedic surgery was completed at University of Maryland Medical Systems, and he completed his fellowship in sports medicine, arthroscopy and articular cartilage restoration at the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group in California.   • In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Dr. James Dreese to discuss considerations surrounding ACL graft choice and extra-articular ligament reconstruction as part of an ACL reconstruction. Topics such as graft fixation, meniscus root tears and meniscus repair, and double-bundle grafts are also covered.

    James Dreese, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in sports medicine. He is double-board certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He serves as associate director of Union Memorial Sports Medicine and as research director for the MedStar Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship. He was recently elected to serve as one of two delegates from the state of Maryland on the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Council of Delegates. He has served as editor-in-chief for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and has been appointed to numerous regional and national leadership committees in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He is actively involved in sports medicine research, and has published numerous articles and book chapters. Dr. Dreese is an associate team physician for the Baltimore Ravens. He serves as one of two delegates from the state of Maryland to the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. He has been named numerous times to U.S. News and World Report's Top Doctors for Sports Medicine and Castle Connolly's Top Doctor Baltimore Edition. In 2021, Baltimore magazine named him a Top Doctor in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.     Jake is the Brand Manager for Stray Dog Strength, a Columbus, Ohio-based company specializing in custom and made-to-order sports performance equipment. In addition to his role at Stray Dog Strength, Jake serves as a high school lacrosse coach at Granville High School and provides sports performance training for the team. Over the past three years, Jake has been instrumental in developing over 100 products with SDS, including racks, rack attachments, and training machines. Since 2015, he has undergone three shoulder surgeries, including repairs to both labrums and a Latarjet procedure.   • In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Anthony Cockrill to discuss various strength and conditioning considerations for volleyball, including the use of isometric exercise, testing considerations, and more.

    Anthony Cockrill is entering his third year at SMU as the Assistant Director of Olympic Sports Performance working primarily with Volleyball.

    In two seasons, has been a part of a program that went a combined 48-17, 2023 American Athletic Conference Champions and a 2nd round appearance in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Coached 8 All-AAC and 2 AVCA All-Region Selections, including the 2023 Player, Setter and Libero of the Year.

    Prior to SMU, he was at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County (UMBC) as the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning working primarily with Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, Baseball and Track & Field.

    While at UMBC, was a part of a Volleyball program that won its first Conference Championship in school history in 2020 and its second in 2021. Coached 7 All-America East and 1 AVCA All-Region Selections in 2 seasons.

    Prior to UMBC, Cockrill was an Assistant at the University of Houston, Graduate Assistant at Tennessee Tech University and Interned at TCU.

    Cockrill has his bachelor's degree in exercise physiology from Midwestern State University and a masters degree in health and wellness from Tennessee Tech University.

  • In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Dr. Tyler Lesher to discuss his journey as a rehab professional and clinician, the lessons he has learned from treating elite athletes, and how he applies them in his clinical practice. Dan and Tyler also discuss his upcoming cohort of the ARC, in addition to chatting about the "Iso God", Aliens, and more. 


    Tyler Lesher enters his third season as the UCLA men’s basketball team’s athletic trainer in 2023-24.
 
In his current role, Lesher handles all day-to-day athletic training responsibilities and oversees multiple sports medicine interns. He joined the UCLA athletic training and sports medicine department in October 2021.
 
Lesher’s work with the men’s basketball program has been vital over the past two years. In 2022-23, UCLA went 31-6 overall and won the Pac-12 Conference’s regular-season crown. In 2021-22, the Bruins went 27-8 overall and finished in second place in the Pac-12 standings. The Bruins advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 in 2022 and 2023.
 
Lesher, who hails from Wyoming, spent the 2020-21 academic year as an assistant athletic trainer at Florida Atlantic University. Prior to his time at FAU, he spent four years working in the NBA and the NBA’s G League.
 
Lesher served as the head athletic trainer/strength and conditioning specialist for the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets’ NBA G League affiliate from August 2017 until November 2020. His first opportunity in the NBA took place with the Cleveland Cavaliers. While in Cleveland (Sept. 2016 until May 2017), Lesher served as an intern athletic trainer. He was the head strength and conditioning/assistant athletic trainer for the Canton Charge, the Cavs’ NBA G League affiliate.
 
After he earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from New Mexico State University in 2014, Lesher worked as a men’s basketball graduate assistant athletic trainer for Chico State. He earned his master’s degree in kinesiology at Chico State while on the job from 2014 to 2015.
 
Lesher, 34, is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Certified Orthopedic Physician Extender (OPE-C), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) and Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES). He earned his Doctorate in Health Science and Exercise Leadership from California University of Pennsylvania, focusing reducing systemic inflammation through nutrition and exercise, in the fall of 2021.   • In this episode of the Braun Performance & Rehab Podcast, Dan is joined by Dr. Angela Gordon to discuss causes of anterior shoulder pain in overhead athletes and how to treat anterior shoulder pain.Angela T. Gordon PT, DSc, MPT, FAAOMPT, COMT, ATC, OCS, FMS has more than 16 years of clinical experience in orthopedic and sports physical therapy. Dr. Gordon was a high school and collegiate athlete suffering several injuries that lead her pursue a career in physical therapy. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from Baldwin Wallace College in 2000 for athletic training, her Masters of Physical Therapy from Andrews University in 2002, and her Doctorate of Science from Andrews University 2012. Dr. Gordon earned her orthopedic manual therapist certification through NAIOMT in 2012. In 2012 Dr. Gordon received her functional dry needling specialist certification and in 2014 became Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist from the American Physical Therapy Association. In 2017, Dr. Gordon completed her fellowship with NAIOMT and is recognized by the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists. In April 2013 Dr. Gordon became a published author for an article in the IJSPT: Relationships between core strength, hip external rotator muscle strength, and star excursion balance test performance in female lacrosse players. Dr. Gordon’s co authored a book chapter “Physical Therapy considerations Following Regenerative Medicine Interventions” in September 2017 in the textbook Regenerative Treatments in Sports and Orthopedic Medicine. Dr. Gordon has served as the lead physical therapist for the Washington Nationals Baseball in 2005 and from 2010-2015. She works extensively with numerous professional and semi professional athletes from MLB, NFL, PGA, Canadian Football League, and European basketball players. She also works closely with many high school and collegiate overhead throwers and female athletes. Dr. Gordon is guest faculty with NAIOMT, teaching a specialty course for rehabilitation of overhead athletes and she has been invited to speak at a variety annual sports medicine conferences across the country. Dr. Gordon is the owner and creator of F. A.S.T.™ (Female Athlete Sports Training program) and is physical therapy consultant to George Mason University Athletics.
