  • 🎙 It’s time for some more banter!

In this episode, we’re shining our banterous spotlight on a different kind of brand, one that both Frank & Delphie have bought into considerably and so have both our sets of kids. It’s the Aussie animated TV show success story that is, Bluey.

Bluey has become an international brand being broadcast around the world on ABC here in Australia, TVNZ in New Zealand and Disney+ in most parts of the world like the UK and USA. Becoming the most watched kids program on Australian TV.

But since it started in 2018, Bluey has expanded into a brand beyond the television screen and into our children’s lives with toys, books, stationery, games, outdoor play equipment and even a live stage show.

So in this episode we look under the hood of what makes Bluey a brand and not just another animated TV show, to identify how it positions itself, how it communicates with key messaging, how it communicates visually in its identity and what brand experience it offers its broad audience and consumers, both kids and parents alike.

    FOR REAL LIFE!

And this is also our final episode of Branding Banter Season 2. To stay in touch with the show and with us as co-hosts, you can find our details below.

  • 🎙 It’s time for some more banter!

In this episode, we’re putting a leash on our banter and throwing it a chew toy to spotlight Aussie pet care brand, Petbarn.

Petbarn in the last 2 decades has grown into a big leader and go-to brand in Australia for pet care. As they have an end-to-end service and product offering that completes the circle of what ‘care’ really means to their customers and their pets.

So in this episode we look under the hood of Petbarn to identify how it positions itself, how it communicates with key messaging, how it communicates visually in its identity and what brand experience it offers its intended audience and consumers.

    Woof woof…meow!

  • 🎙 It’s time for some more banter!

In this episode, we’re shining our banterous spotlight and microphones on the Aussie beacon of audio gear, RØDE.

Founded originally in 1967, RØDE has become an industry leader in quality, Australian made audio equipment for the everyday creator, prosumer and professional audio producers.

Safe to say the choice of this Aussie brand was Frank’s as he’s such a fanboy. But when you dig below the surface to realise what makes their brand, it’s clear that it’s much loved and highly reviewed by it’s customers. Especially when they support their customers with a great brand experience to amplify the brand’s position as a market leader.

So for us in this episode we’re identifying RØDE as a brand that is not known for its messaging, unlike some of the other brands we’ve covered. But more for their distinctive assets and community building experiences to support creatives.

That, and their products are pretty cool…just saying (says Frank).

  • 🎙 It’s time for some more banter!

In this episode, we’re getting deep into the pores to shine our banterous spotlight on our national postal service, Australia Post.

It is a heritage service provider with over 200 years of history. However, our focus in on the brand that is Australia Post which was conceived in 1975 and has remained relatively unchanged since then. But, the identity has seen a couple of refreshes in it’s time, the last most notably occurring in 2019.

So for us in this episode we’re mostly identifying Australia Post as a brand that is not only differentiated from others (being the only national postal service in the country), but that it is a very visually distinct brand that helps all Australians recognise and engage with their brand at all ages of brand experience.

  • 🎙 It’s time for some more banter!

In this episode, we’re getting deep into the pores to shine our banterous spotlight on Aussie skincare brand, GO-TO.

Founded by Zoë Foster Blake, GO-TO has grown its orange of face and body products for women, into a brand that now caters to men (BRO-TO) and kids (GRO-TO).

GO-TO uncomplicates skincare with an unpretentious brand and relatable voice that makes you feel good about wanting to look and feel better about yourself. Especially with a humble identity and products that do what they say they do, GO-TO has won us over as neither of us have bought a GO-TO product but have been drawn in to want to buy some of their products.

So in this episode we look at GO-TO through the lens of being a new customer, to look under the hood to identify how it positions itself, how it communicates with key messaging, how it communicates visually in its identity and what brand experience it offers its intended audience and consumers.

  • This week for episode 5 of season 2 we’re doing things a little differently, shining a spotlight on two Aussie brands to identify how they impact and support the Australian community through crisis support and mental health advocacy and awareness.

To do this, Delphie will be covering Lifeline, Australia’s 24/7 suicide and mental health support hotline. While Frank will be covering Beyond Blue, set up as a national initiative to reduce the stigma of mental health issues and create awareness for how it can be effectively helped. So that we can show how their brands have evolved to become the organisations Aussies trust and turn to in crisis.

As always, we look under the hood of each brand to identify how it positions itself, how it communicates with key messaging, how it communicates visually in its identity and what brand experience it offers its intended audience and consumers.

  • 🎙 It’s time for some more banter!

This week for episode 4 of season 2 we’re shining our Branding Banter spotlight on the Aussie company that is synonymously known for its mattress-in-a-box products.

With over 42,500 5 star reviews and 2 Canstar mattress products of the year, Koala is leading the pack when it comes to known brands in the mattress space. Competing against the likes of traditional mattress brands like Sealy and SleepMaker, or mattress-in-a-box competitors like Ecosa and Sleeping Duck - Koala is dominating the space when it comes to thinking about a new mattress in 2021.

We picked Koala as they’re positioned as a quintessentially Aussie brand, with key messaging and even their name fitting right at home amongst the gumtrees. However, our spotlight is shining on a recent brand refresh that aligns with a new product range (including other furniture than mattresses for the whole home) and the shift of moving manufacturing offshore for the majority of their product range.

  • 🎙 It’s time for some more banter!

This week for episode 3 of season 2 we’re shining our Branding Banter spotlight on the Aussie tech success story that is Canva.

With 60M+ active users, 2000 staff in Australia and Asia and a recent valuation of close to $55B, the online design platform Canva is a true success story for founders Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht & Cameron Adams.

It’s a tool most people in design, digital marketing and content creation know all about and is every increasingly used SAAS product for many small to medium businesses across 190 countries.

So for this episode we dive deep into their market position, understanding their internal and external messaging, as well as how they communicate their own brand visually and verbally with their own look and feel, but mostly highlighting the faces and voices of their customers to make their brand what it has become. As Canva really does empower anyone in the world to design, with an easily accessible and free tool.

  • 🎙 It’s time for some more banter!

This week for episode 2 of this second season we’re shining our Branding Banter spotlight on Aussie hardware retailer, Bunnings.

Across Australia and New Zealand it has a dominant presence, not just with roughly 267 stores, but because of their physical size of stores/warehouses and more recently, their online store.

So throughout the episode we look at how they have positioned themselves as a now 135 year old brand that has evolved over time but has for the most part maintained it’s current brand identity for the last 30 years with a tremendous amount of consistency.

We take a look at their messaging, visual identity which focuses greatly on their colours. As well as their brand experience and distinctive assets that all culminate in a complex but simple and memorable brand that could be one of the best examples of a retail brand in Australia.

So join us for a banter in this episode on Apple, Spotify or Google Podcasts.

  • 🎙 We’ve brought the banter back!

Yes, we’ve now matured and refined our own podcast brand and started a whole new season with a new intro, minimal cover art to hero our distinct B and a whole new format of our show.

Speaking of which, we now describe Branding Banter as the podcast that shines a spotlight on Australian businesses, to identify how a brand helps businesses connect with their consumers.

So for our first episode of the season, we’re focusing on Aussie furniture and homewares retailer, Freedom.

Freedom has been around for 40 years and the brand spans 58 stores in Australia and New Zealand.

In 2020 they underwent a full rebrand and design overhaul of their products and brand experience. However, their new logo elements caught both of our attention.

To us, a bit of distinctiveness has left the ‘house of design’ as they call it where the focus is clearly more on great products than a brand that stands out from others with colour or unique type.

So join us for a banter in this episode on Apple, Spotify or Google Podcasts.

We’re back this week for Branding Banter, Episode 19!

In this episode, we’re having a banter about the branding/marketing concept of ‘positioning’. For what can only be described as a simple, yet complex part of developing a strategy for your brand, positioning is a topic we cover from a few different perspectives in relation to implementing it into a small business context. Namely how to position your business as the go-to option for your customers when they think of needing or wanting the thing you offer.

In this episode, we’re having a banter with Renee Shea, photographer and personal branding expert from Brisbane, Australia.

What was going to be a conversation about brand photography, turned into a deep dive into the relationship between our personality and the businesses we run or are part of and what impact our personality has on influencing the perception of our brand. But also our own confidence in embracing our personality that not just aligns with who we’re targeting, but who we are authentically.

We do circle it back to photography as the overarching theme of the chat, but Renee offers some great perspectives relating to personal branding that we know will add some value to you if you’re currently on the journey to establishing or re-aligning your personal brand presence.

We look at why any business of any size, including small businesses, can benefit from having a clear purpose in mind as the cornerstone of it’s brand identity.

Ultimately, it comes down to why you do what you do beyond making money. But we dive into this concept of purpose to show that it doesn’t need to be a confusing or unnecessary exercise. So that your customers pick you over others because of the influence a solid purpose has on the brand experience you offer them.

We’re back this week with Episode 14 of the Branding Banter podcast 🤩

In this episode, we’re having a banter about what makes a great logo and how to design a good logo for your brand that represents your business.

We look at considerations like the type of logo you use, its adaptability to the different touchpoints of your brand experience, its colour, simplicity, etc. But most importantly, we stress the point that a great logo only happens as a result of building a great brand for the logo to represent it.

So think of designing your logo as part of a process of establishing the core identity of what your brand is to your ideal customers so that your logo can align with that identity, your industry and customers. You will then become an identification tool for your customers to recognise your brand.

  • 🎙 Are you ready for some more podcasts banter!? We are finally back in 2021 with EPISODE 11 of the Branding Banter podcast 🤩

Our first episode back is about following the mould of what others are doing to brand their business or to set your own trends and roll with your own path as a business/brand.

BUT THE BIG THING ABOUT OUR PODCAST MOVING FORWARD:

We’re changing things up a little with our podcast and taking it LIVE via Clubhouse. If you’re not familiar with Clubhouse it’s a new iOS app (Apple phones only at this stage) to have audio-based conversations in your own digital room - much like a ZOOM call mixed with a social media platform, but audio-only.

So what we’re going to be doing is recording our show while in a Clubhouse live room and chat about a specific topic relating to branding and how it can impact small Aussie businesses. But we’ll now be able to introduce guests and a Q&A component to our show.

For this first episode back it’s just Delphie and Frank but in the following episodes, we’ll be looking to record our show every week or fortnight live on a Monday or Tuesday at 12:30pm Sydney time. You can join in LIVE on Clubhouse or listen to it as a podcast on Apple, Spotify or Google Podcasts.
