Pre-release build that continues Blink’s self-custodial wallet implementation, including wallet creation, seed backup/recovery, Blink Lightning address, LNURL pay, and Stable Balance with BTC-USD conversion. Mention only as a prerelease / watch item.
    Lightning / node ops

    • Core Lightning 26.06.2 - 2026-06-29

    On-chain privacy / coinjoin

    • Ashigaru Desktop 1.0 - 2026-06-24
Ashigaru Desktop 1.0.0 (June 19, 2026) is the inaugural stable release of the Whirlpool coinjoin desktop wallet, shipping Tx0/zeroleak mixing with Premix/Postmix/Badbank account management, built-in Tor, Mix To for routing postmix funds offline, a receive-only attack-surface reduction model, BIP-329 label import/export, and an offline BIP47 message verifier. • JoinMarket NG 0.33.0 - 2026-06-24

    General wallet / spend

    • Stack Wallet 2.6.0 - 2026-06-27
    Adds CakePay gift-card support.

    EDUCATION

    • The Fed Is Working on a CBDC
The Rage reports that despite public denials, the Fed is internally researching CBDC design. A concrete surveillance-money piece that pairs directly with the 702 lapse for a “financial panopticon” segment. Also pair with the new ROAD to Housing Act CBDC-ban item: the ban runs only through 2030, which is the punchline.

    • BIP 110 Fork Simulator / explainer
Interactive explainer of the BIP 110 “Reduced Data Temporary Softfork”: activation mechanics, what gets restricted, and how the data-filtering debate could split consensus.

    • How-To Guide: Running an Ecash Mint
Hands-on Cashu / LNbits + Nutshell mint walkthrough. Ecash is the privacy tech of the moment; a good “run your own mint” counterweight to “just use a wallet.”

    • Bitcoin Privacy in 2026: A Practical Guide
Dated 2026-06-04, outside even the grace cutoff, so use as evergreen rather than news. Good “where do listeners actually start” resource.

    • Bitcoin Optech #411
Carries the LND zero-timestamp DoS disclosure plus the usual protocol-discussion roundup. Patch reminder for node runners.

    • Bitcoin Optech #410
Summarises an active dev debate to remove opt-in RBF signaling because it now mainly fingerprints the wallet that created the transaction, plus Sparrow Silent Payments, JoinMarket, and Ark items.

    KEEP AN EYE ON

    • EU “Chat Control” final trilogue - Patrick Breyer / fightchatcontrol.eu
The fourth and likely final trilogue on the permanent CSAM-scanning regulation is set for Monday 2026-06-29. Member states have reportedly dropped the forced encrypted-message-scanning mandate, but the Council text would still codify “voluntary” scanning and extend the interim derogation, with formal adoption expected in July. Outcome not yet known as of record date.

    • MiCA enforcement after July 1 - ESMA / Bull Bitcoin
Bull Bitcoin is the self-custody-friendly example to watch, while ESMA’s wind-down warning is the enforcement backdrop. After July 1, check which EU-accessible services remain available, which providers stop onboarding, and whether “compliant but non-custodial” survives contact with implementation.

    VALUE…

  • A weekly live show covering all things Freedom Tech with Max, Q and Seth.

In this week’s Freedom Tech Friday, Max welcomed back Zach Herbert, CEO of Foundation, for a deep dive into practical health sovereignty, starting at home. We moved beyond Bitcoin, seed phrases, and secure elements to the everyday systems thinking Zach has applied to his own biology. We tackled the big three of home optimisation; water, air, and light.

Max and Zach explored how to choose and install reverse osmosis with remineralisation (and why it matters), whole‑home and countertop options for renters, UV sterilisation, shower filters, and the very real issues of PFAS, fluoride, and microplastics. On air, we explored CO₂ monitoring, ERV/HRV ventilation, humidification/dehumidification strategies, realistic budgets for owners and renters, and why indoor CO₂ quietly wrecks performance and sleep. When it came to light, they contrasted high‑CRI, no‑flicker LEDs with incandescents, circadian effects, dim‑to‑warm setups, and why harsh, blue‑heavy flicker can spike stress and fatigue, especially for kids.

Max and Zach then dug into targeted personal health: why genetic insights should precede bloods, balancing privacy with utility, and how DNA variants (MTHFR, vitamin D conversion, dopamine response, drug metabolism) can explain lab results and guide smarter supplementation (methylated B vitamins, vitamin D) and protocols (sauna, blood donation trade‑offs). They also hit practicals on electrolyte quality and salt (ditch stevia/citric acid, choose clean salts), everyday toxin minimisation (tallow skincare, hydroxyapatite toothpaste, cleaner hair care), and a level‑headed take on parasites and ivermectin.

The theme throughout: use tech to restore a more natural environment and reclaim health autonomy without going “100‑step protocol” make quick wins for renters and owners alike that compound over years for you and your family.

Bisq v1 trade protocol exploit: 11.59 BTC drained, fully reimbursed, hardening shipped in 1.10.0 (bisq.community PSA, Bisq on X, reimbursement plan on GitHub)Disclosed: 2026-05-01Bisq's v1 trade protocol had a missing validation check on taker-side input. Because maker and taker were supposed to use the same miner fee, a malicious taker could push a bad fee value through the transaction math and shrink the multisig output to 0.001 BTC while sweeping the rest into the taker's change. Attacker drained 11.59 BTC from 10 users, all on altcoin trades. Maintainer Henrik Jannsen filed a reimbursement plan on GitHub on May 3, payouts in BTC (with BSQ as optional), DAO vote scheduled around May 25. The hotfix landed as Bisq 1.10.0 on 2026-05-16 with broader hardening: trade protocol checks, network message validation, release verification, supply-chain hardening. Your go-to for anonymous…

  • In this special episode, I explain why we’re re-hosting the Unbounded archive at Ungovernable Misfits and end  the series with a forward-looking conversation with Colonial, author of Sovereignty Requires Privacy: Lessons from the Fall of Samourai Wallet.

Tbd and Colonial explore sovereignty as territorial control—physical and digital—and why exposure is the enemy in a world where information is the battlefield. Colonial unpacks how privacy tools challenge the geopolitical order, why martyrs lose, and why the next era belongs to disciplined, anonymous builders who move with intention. They walk through practical lessons from the Samourai saga, from the limits of playing by “their” rules to a new code for anon warfare, and close with actionable steps listeners can take now, including adopting Ashigaru’s Whirlpool implementation and strengthening operational discretion. This one is about clarity over nostalgia: either you control your territory, or someone else will.

Resources mentioned: Colonial’s writings at sovereigncolony.com; Ashigaru Wallet and Terminal (ashigaru.rs) for Whirlpool; reading on territoriality (Robert Ardrey’s The Territorial Imperative) and philosophical frames (Nietzsche, Evola).

Roman Storm Acquittal?? - The RageRule 29 hearing in SDNY. Retrial dates floated: Oct, Nov, Jan 2027.Gov theory: running Tornado Cash was criminal, but mixers aren't illegal and it wasn't criminal at inception. Failla: so when did liability start?Gov collapsed UI and protocol. Claimed Tornado Cash itself transferred funds — user wallets as "instrumentalities."Only 15% of volume was illicit across the charged period.Failla to prosecutor: "I might argue you were doing better before you started talking."BIP-361 - LinkNew proposal from Jameson Lopp and others (submitted 14 April) to protect Bitcoin from future quantum computers.Quantum computers could one day crack the cryptography Bitcoin uses today (ECDSA/Schnorr). BIP-361 forces everyone to move to new quantum-safe address types before that happens. Two phases: first, you can't send to old-style addresses. Five years later, old-style coins can't be spent at all. If you haven't moved your coins by then, they're frozen.Controversial because it means coins that don't migrate get effectively confiscated — including Satoshi's ~1M BTC and anything on lost seeds. Breaks Bitcoin's "your coins are yours forever" promise.BitMEX pushed back with a "wait and see" alternative: only freeze coins if quantum is actually proven to exist.Foundation angle: if you hold your own keys, you just migrate when new address types ship. The people at risk are exchange users, lost-seed holders, and very old wallets.Bitcoin Depot Hacked - 50.9 BTC ($3.7M) Stolen - Bitcoin Magazine / SecurityWeekPublished: Breach detected March 23, disclosed April 8-9, 2026Bitcoin Depot, the largest crypto ATM operator in the US (9,000+ machines, 47 states), lost 50.9 BTC after attackers gained control of credentials for digital asset settlement accounts. Customer data was not affected. SEC disclosure filed April 8.Talking points: Centralised custodians are honeypots. One set of credentials = nearly $4M gone. The 16-day gap between detection and disclosure is worth noting. Compare with self-custody where there is no single point of failure.Kraken Insider Extortion - Support Staff Recruited by Criminal Groups - CoinDeskPublished: April 13, 2026A criminal group is extorting Kraken after two insider incidents where support staff inappropriately accessed data from ~2,000 client accounts. No funds were at risk. Kraken warned of coordinated insider recruitment campaigns targeting crypto, gaming, and telecom firms.Talking points: Your exchange account is only as secure as the lowest-paid support worker with access to your data.
