This week we dig into intention, maybe the most misused word in modern witchcraft. It got watered down into "set your intention and hope for the best," and then a backlash swung the other way and decided intention is fluff and real magic is all cold hard technique. So we go looking at how it actually worked. The magicians of the grimoires and the PGM didn't hope, they commanded, they issued orders and even threatened the gods themselves, but always on the back of days of purification and fasting and trained will. We get into the curse tablets and their flat commanding voice, the Neoplatonic idea of cosmic sympathy that explains why the herbs and the timing and the correspondences work at all, the Orphic hymns sung to draw a god down by the accuracy of the sound, and the whole apparatus of ceremony as a machine for reaching the state where the will can actually command. I yap about what intention actually is and where it lives, the difference between attention and intention, the evil eye as proof that focused will was always felt as a real force, working with spirits versus working alone, and what it actually means to set an intention

Today we dive into music and melody as a powerful magical medium. We go through what music actually does to us, how rhythm slips past the thinking mind and opens the door, and the relationship between us, music, and spirits, how they might use it on us and how we use it with them. There is a deep connection between music and necromantic practice as well, the keen and the funeral song, the old belief that the dead can be reached through sound when they can no longer be reached any other way. We cover a lot of ground here, from Orpheus and the underworld to Pan's pipes, the sung spells and barbarous names of the old magicians, the folk charmers who healed by voice, and the musician-spirits like the nøkken who lure and bargain at the water. We get into who tried to control music and why, from the Church and the myth of the devil's interval, then we talk all things practical like how you can actually work with sound in your own craft, spirit playlists, song as spell, and the curating of instruments.

This week, I talk all things invisibility magic. Across the historical and folk record, invisibility was about concealment: moving unnoticed, escaping enemies, avoiding the authorities, masking yourself from spirits and curses, hiding treasure, concealing your workings, and becoming forgotten on purpose. We move from the Ring of Gyges and the question of what people do when no one can see them, through the eye-ointments of the Greek Magical Papyri, the invisibility stones of Pliny and the medieval lapidaries, and the hagstone that does the opposite and lets you see through a glamour. Then into the grimoires to talk rites on bones... lots of beans and skulls! And even the magic squares of Abramelin and of course the discussion of practical uses for invisibility, some old folk charms and much more.

This week we are talking about horses!! Horses as threshold animals, the psychopomp, the nightmare entity, and one of the most significant and cosmologically loaded creatures to appear across nearly every magical tradition in the world. We cover the Germanic nightmare and the hag-riding tradition, the folk magic of the Horseman's Word and its direct connection to the Toadmen of East Anglia, the horse as a fertility omen and its role in Roman sacrifice, Hekate's lesser known horse epithets and what they actually offer in practice, the shamanic drum as horse and its connection to the witch's broomstick as argued by Mircea Eliade in Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy, hippomancy and the oracular horse traditions of the ancient world, and a full practical section on working with horse materia including horseshoes, horse skulls, horsehair charms, the Man of Might, witch knots, and the Ozark witch bullet. Whether you have never touched a horse or have worked with them your whole life, this one is for you.

This week I wanted to explore something that has been physically surrounding me lately here on the coast, fog. But the deeper I sat with it, the more I began thinking about breath, mist, smoke, and vapor as something far more spiritual. Across countless traditions throughout history, breath has been understood as the soul itself, the animating force of life, the thing that leaves the body at death and lingers as mist, smoke, or spirit. I talk through folklore, ancient spiritual traditions, funeral customs, and magical practices surrounding breath as spirit matter, exploring everything from Greek pneuma and Hindu prana to graveyard fog, ancestor spirits, incense smoke, and the belief that spirits themselves manifest through vapor and cold air.
I also dive deeply into the witch’s breath as a magical tool, discussing breath magic, smoke divination, spirit communication through incense, working with fog water, and why foggy landscapes have so often been treated as thresholds between worlds.

The craft many of us are trying to reclaim did not survive untouched, but was profoundly shaped by centuries of Christian influence, suppression, and syncretism. This episode I yap about the historical entanglement between Christianity and witchcraft, challenging the romantic idea of a pure, fully recoverable “old craft” by acknowledging that much of what we know about pre-Christian practices comes through the records, fears, and theological frameworks of those who sought to condemn or redefine them. Let's examine how the Church not only persecuted witches but actively helped construct the modern image of the witch through demonology, heresy narratives, and old texts while also tracing how folk practices survived by blending with Christian symbols, saints, prayers, feast days, and ritual forms. At the same time, I invite you to confront the personal and collective shadow this history leaves behind; the inherited fears, shame, moral binaries, and spiritual fragmentation that still live within many modern practitioners, especially those healing from religious trauma.

This episode is all about toads. Their deep history with witchcraft, their role as familiars in English witch trials, and why this ugly, mud-dwelling creature became one of the most feared and revered animals in the magical tradition. We look at the toad bone rite, toad stones.. and even toad doctors. We get into the actual pharmacology of toad skin, what those secretions contain and why that matters for the flying ointment conversation and medicinal uses through history. Finally, a conversation about liminality, about the power that lives in things we find repulsive, and about an animal that has been sitting at the threshold between worlds and one who goes through one of the most transformative metamorphosis. The toad is a long time friend, ally, imp of the witch with much more to unpack.

Today we talk about servitors, tulpas, and egregores. What happens when a servitor goes off script and gains more agency than you intended. Of course there is a conversation on chaos magic and the difference between servitors through the lens of the psychological model and the spirit based model. We go deep into the history, from ancient Egypt's magical workforce to the golem traditions of Jewish mysticism to the moment Austin Osman Spare turned all of it into a technique anyone could use. Then we get practical: how to create one, how to keep it fed without losing control of it, how to maintain that relationship over time, and how to end it cleanly when the work is done. This episode is not entirely a how-to for servitors, but a deeper conversation on the topic of the witch conjuring a life form with purpose into the ether.

This episode explores the deep magical logic behind anima materia, the use of animal remains and animal substances in spellwork, divination, ritual, and spiritual practice. We look at how cultures across time have understood animal bodies not simply as resources, but as carriers of power, memory, and presence.
We begin with the foundations: the animist worldview that underlies most traditional magical systems. We explore all sorts of organs and bodily substances, from tongues, livers, bones, even bile, saliva, and excrement appear in folk magical traditions around the world, reminding us that magical thinking does not separate the sacred from the visceral.

This week I'm talking about the secrecy of magic, why it matters, why it has always mattered, and what the historical traditions actually say about keeping silent. We talk about spirit-given knowledge and why those transmissions come with conditions. We talk about what you're actually seeing when a practitioner shares a working online...and what you're not seeing. And we talk about the difference between secrecy and shame, because they are not the same thing and they never have been. Silence is not hiding. Silence is power. Think about the ways it ultimately makes you more cunning.

The world is heavy right now, today we're talking about magic for justice, resistance, and protection. From apotropaic magical logic and its uses to the offensive approach, I delve into Hekate with this one, calling her by her epithets Apotropaia, the Averter of Evil, and Borborophorba, the Eater of Filth.
We explore the ancient story of how she saved Byzantium with her torches, the household practice of offering her your sweepings and fallen food, and why that matters right now. But before any of the magic, we talk about you, about grounding, about boundaries, about the difference between staying informed and letting the weight destroy you from the inside out. This one's heavy, it's practical, and it's for this exact moment.

In this episode, we go deep. We explore the history of Lupercalia, the blood and milk, the naked priests running through the streets, the women who stepped into their path with hands outstretched. I tell the full myth of Lupa, the she-wolf who chose to nurse two abandoned infants instead of eating them, and what her story teaches us about fierce motherhood, womanhood, impossible choices, and threshold magic. I trace wolf traditions across cultures and examine the medieval werewolf trials and what they reveal about folk magic traditions the Church tried to destroy. And of course I talk about fertility magic not limited to conception, but wild and bloody and requiring purification first.

When witches leave organized religion, they don't stop relating to power, they renegotiate how. In this episode I explore what happens after religion: why some of us run toward gods and saints for structure, why others reject anything resembling hierarchy, and what both responses reveal about trauma, energy, and sustainability. We'll talk about deities, saints, spirits, and ancestors not as objects of belief, but as energetic infrastructure...and why "just use your own energy" might be the most exhausting lie in modern witchcraft.

Dirt is the foundation of folk magic. It's free, it's everywhere, and it's one of the most powerful materials you can work with. In this episode, I explore dirt magic from every angle, how to gather it respectfully, every type of dirt and its uses (graveyard, crossroads, river, seasonal, and more), practical jar and bottle workings, dirt as taglocks for targeted magic, and the mechanics of why dirt is so potent.
We also dive into baneful applications like crossing and binding work, grounding practices for protection and stability, and the hidden history of dirt magic across ancient cultures, alchemy, and folk traditions. This is the magic that institutions tried to suppress because they understood its power. This is accessible magic. This is what actually works.

Winter isn't death, it's dormancy. It's descent. In this episode, we explore what happens when you stop fighting the cold and start working with it. We talk about the internal winter, the spirits that walk in the dark months, the folk magic of survival, and how to let the pressure of the season transform you. This isn't cozy witchcraft, it's a walk through the darkest nights of the year inside and out.

This episode explores a hidden piece of European folk magic that survived from the 1600s into the early 1900s, examining the actual historical practices, the spiritual technology behind ritual consumption and transference magic, and why the Christian church fought so hard to suppress these death workers. We'll explore the actual historical practices, why the Christian church was so terrified of sin-eaters, they condemned them as blasphemers, and practical ways to engage with this spiritual technology consciously and safely.

Think familiar spirits are just your psychic cat or beloved dog? Think again. This week, we're diving deep into the actual historical reality of familiar spirit relationships - the powerful spiritual partnerships that medieval magicians, accused witches, and educated practitioners like Dr. John Dee used for centuries to enhance their magical capabilities. From the detailed protocols in the Lemegeton to the testimony of the Pendle witches, we'll explore what familiar spirits actually are (hint: they're not animals), where they come from in traditional magical hierarchies, and why the Christian church was so absolutely terrified of them that they made familiar spirit work a primary target of the witch trials. We'll break down the difference between demonic and planetary familiars, examine the formal conjuration methods actually used to obtain these spiritual allies, and discuss the real obligations and benefits of these relationships.
-
In this deep-dive episode, we explore the ancient practice of body-fluid magic—how our ancestors used saliva, tears, and urine for healing, protection, divination, and transformation. Drawing from medieval grimoires, archaeological evidence, and witch trial records, we uncover how Christianity systematically replaced these powerful personal practices with priest-controlled alternatives like holy water, communion, and baptism.
We'll dig into the shame campaign that made you disgusted by your own body's sacred functions, explore the science behind why body fluid magic actually works, and provide practical guidance for reclaiming these profane magical practices in your modern spiritual work.

In this deep dive, we explore how the Golden Dawn created the ceremonial structure most practitioners use today, how Theosophy brought Eastern techniques to Western occultism, and how the Spiritualism boom developed sophisticated methods for spirit communication that modern mediums still rely on. We'll examine the real historical accounts of séances, automatic writing, and physical phenomena that shaped these innovations, including documented cases from the Society for Psychical Research and the personal experiences of figures like W.B. Yeats and William James.
