"Keeping the Peace" is just another form of people pleasing. People pleasing is something that many people struggle with. Including myself. It stems from being unwilling to feel the discomfort of someone else being disappointed or feeling hurt, angry, or offended.
If you have been told to ignore how you feel or what you want in order to "keep the peace" or struggle with people pleasing, this episode is for you.

It's a common belief among people with children who are building a business, or want to build a business, that they are at a disadvantage. That you can't build a successful business AND be there for your children. And it's a belief that I see is holding a lot of people back from creating the life and business that they want.
In my opinion, parents are more equipped to be successful entrepreneurs that those of us without kids!
If you're a parent and a business owner, this episode is for you.

This is a very special episode because we our first IN-studio guest join us!
We chatted with Robin Maza, L.Ac. (@tevaholistic) about her journey in Chinese medicine. For the past 11 years there have been starts and stops in her practice as she grew her family and moved to a new state. She shared with us the challenges of starting again as well as the gifts that come along with starting with a clean slate.

I’m turning 47 this week. And in celebration of my birthday I wanted to do an episode on age and possibility.
I thought it was important to do an episode on this because the vast majority of people in this profession are women. And a high number of you entered this profession as a second career, later in life, or you started a family that delayed things a bit.And so for many of you listening you may have had thoughts making you think that your time is ticking to get your business off the ground and you have a lot of catching up to do.
If this sounds familiar then this episode is for you.

Today’s episode is a little bit outside of the usual business and entrepreneurship talk. Today I talk about finding your purpose.
People want to go through their lives with a purpose. It gives people the sense that what they are doing is toward something worthwhile. They want to feel selfless and like they are making an impact and a contribution to the world.Ironically, the search for purpose actually brings a lot of stress and pain to many people. If this is you I have a different approach to finding your purpose.

I talk a lot about pushing yourself and doing things even when you don’t feel like it. Getting to a place in your business where you start feeling discomfort and pushing through anyway and taking action even when you’re not at your best.
I realize that people may hear this and think that I'm promoting Hustle Culture, which is NOT the case at all.
Success is NOT an either/or choice between your personal life and your dreams! And you can use hustling as a tool toward the work-life balance you desire.

Each year when I set goals I like to choose a word of the year. A word that acts as a theme to follow for all the actions I take over the course of the year.
The past couple of years I have chosen the same word of the year and it has led me to build more confidence, self-trust, and self-love than ever before. Which resulted in the most personal and business growth I have ever had.

A lot of what I talk about is taking action and the thoughts you need, the mental strength, and the emotional fuel needed to take massive action. Taking massive action is how we evolve and move forward.
I don’t spend as much time talking about the other side and that’s inaction. I’m usually trying to inspire people to take massive action, but talking about inaction is just as important because that’s the place where most people live. The land of inaction and indecision.
If you find yourself saying "Next time...", "Not now...", or "I can't afford it." a lot then this episode is for you.

Next to money, time seems to be a big source of people’s problems. Like with money, the biggest complaint is that there’s never enough.
Never enough time to do everything you need to do. Let alone want to do.
Usually people tend to prioritize the things they need to do first and then once those are all out of the way then they will do the things they want to do. And this is usually phrased by saying: I’ll do that when I find the time."
But that time never comes.
If you struggle with having enough time or never-ending to-do lists this episode is for you.

As Chinese medicine is getting more popular and mainstream, and more patients are becoming disheartened by the conventional medicine model and insurance model, being able to differentiate yourself from others is going to be a crucial part of your marketing strategy.
Becoming a trusted source is one way to set yourself apart from the pack and to attract your ideal patients.

It does no good to learn all the clinical skills if your patients don’t commit to their treatment plan or take their medicine, right?
You can take every herbal medicine course and learn every sales technique in the book, but none of those are going to land if you’re missing the key ingredient to patient commitment and compliance.
If you have trouble with patient compliance this episode is for you!

We all take little, subtle jabs at ourselves. Usually couching it in humorous self-deprecation. Sometimes we do this because we think we're being humble. But those little jabs can add up and it's surprising how damaging they can be to our self-confidence.
Negative self-talk isn't the only thing that erodes our confidence. There's another surprising behavior that we all do that picks away at us. Listen to hear what it is!

I’ve had practitioners asking for my thoughts on choosing a specialty to practice. Specifically asking what speciality is the easiest to market to.
Choosing a practical specialty sounds, well, practical. But making your decisions purely from a practical standpoint can backfire on you down the road.

One of the most asked questions that I hear from people who are trying to start or implement something new is “What’s the best way to do this?” or “What’s the best way to start?”
I thought more deeply about this question and realized that when people ask this question they aren't actually looking for the BEST way. They're looking for something else.

It sucks when a patient leaves us for a cheaper competitor, right? Patients should understand that as small business owners we shed blood, sweat, and tears to stay in business. It's harder for the little guy to keep it all together and they should understand that, right?
Wrong. We are not entitled to a customer's money simply because we work really really hard.
Humans will always choose the option that is in their best interest. Learn how to distinguish yourself from others and prevent being undercut by someone charging less.

When people become dissatisfied or stuck in a situation, such as an employment position, a relationship, their practice, etc. very often the first thing they do is try to change things up. Such as: learn a new modality, change their fee structure, add more tx rooms, see more pts, hire a business coach to learn new systems, implement new software, hire employees or contractors, move to a new location.
Or they move the goal post. They will hit their goal, but then it isn’t enough anymore. So they move it out further again and again.
If it’s a relationship, they end it and look for another one… And by making these changes they feel some relief and excitement again. But after some time they are back to feeling dissatisfied and again, looking for the next new thing.
Before you make the decision to change anything in your work or life, do this first!
