James Cameron's incredibly troubled masterpiece was one of three water-based sci-fi action flicks released in 1989 and our favorite movie of the month. Starring Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Michael Biehn, it follows a team of underwater oil drillers and Marines as they try to recover a nuclear submarine that is suspected to have been taken out by Russians. Spoiler alert: We have more underwater aliens to deal with, but this time in a James Cameron fashion, which means epically. -
One of three 1989 underwater sci-fi action flicks this month, LEVIATHAN is directed by George P Cosmatos and stars Peter Weller, Ernie Hudson, Daniel Stern and Hector Elizondo. A team of underwater miners (very different from underwater oil drillers like The Abyss) encounter a bizarre creature in the depths of the ocean that shouldn't exist, but it does and they have a battle on their hands. There's also a monster in the sealab with them in the form of an outrageously horny Daniel Stern.

With a stacked cast including Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, Sam Jackson and Liev Schreiber, this Barry Levinson picture sounds like it should be awesome, but god damn is it a chore. Don't worry though, we watched it so you don't have to! A team of scientists are dropped into a mysterious situation involving an alien spacecraft at the bottom of the sea and a perplexing golden sphere that is more than it seems to be.

We kick off DROWNuary with a favorite of all members of this podcast, Kevin Costner's post-apocalyptic epic WATERWORLD! The polar ice caps have melted due to global warming and humanity survives on scattered floating settlements and boats. Of course, not only good people make it, Dennis Hopper and his Smokers roam to open seas, pillaging and murdering for survival. This one is long and you can just feel Kevin Costner smelling his own farts, but it's still a damn good time.

Last year, we had our friend [BLEEP] on the show to interview us about some of our most and least favorite movies, borrowing the questions from the Films to Be Buried With podcast and we had such a good time that we invited him back to toss some more questions at us. Plus we had a little surprise for him as well.

We've had a lot of fun doing these Dirka Classic Movies episodes for the past year, but, in 2025, we have something new coming your way, so we decided to close out the DCM series with an absolute treasure featuring some killer special effects from the legendary Ray Harryhausen, 1981's CLASH OF THE TITANS. Giant scorpions, a steampunk owl, gods, men and skeletons abound in this absolute masterpiece of classic adventure cinema!

It's Friday the 13th again, so it's time for another SPECIAL episode. On our last Friday the 13th special we randomly drew a movie from THE BAG and we are discussing the original, classic, wonderful FRIDAY THE 13TH! For this, we invited our friend and horror movie expert Zip [https://www.instagram.com/zip_tattooist/] back to record with us and he gladly jumped at the opportunity. The original entry that spawned an empire, this film sees a group of would-be camp counselors at Camp Crystal Lake in New Jersey being systematically stalked and killed by a mysterious murdering monster. Dudes in short shorts, ladies in bikinis, knives, axes and blood spatters abound in this 80s horror classic.

Forgive me father, for I have finned...
Mega Mayhem starts with the first episode of the side series "Seasick Cinema"
In this episode, I brought on everyone from the Bad Movies Worse People Podcast, and we dive into a movie that was reviewed very early on on the podcast, "Shark Exorcist" (2015)
With the sequel coming out later this month, we take a look at what this movie is, and what we can expect from a sequel, and maybe I change my mind about this movie?
Tune in now for chaos, puns and a face full of chum.

It's our 2nd anniversary and just like last year, we're celebrating by revisiting one of our favorite movies from the very early days of the podcast. We didn't know what the hell we were doing back then (let's be honest, we barely know now), so we're going back to Orlando to fight the ninja! There were some technical difficulties, so Whitney bowed out of the episode to let our friend Steve from the Bucket of Chum [http://www.bucketofchumpodcast.com/] podcast come back on with us and discuss something with NO SHARKS in it. An 80s pop-rock band made up of orphaned Tae Kwon Do experts have to stop a gang of bikers and ninjas (and ninja bikers) from selling cocaine on their streets, all of this is accompanied by a banger of a soundtrack and some atrocious acting. This is one of the worst movies of all time and we LOVE it!

For the final week of our Tucson Music Scene month, we ventured out of our recording dungeon to Brickbox Brewery [https://www.brickboxbrewery.com] to record with the owner of the venue and a world-class hip-hop artist, Runt of the mighty Jivin' Scientists [https://www.instagram.com/jivinscientists/]! We talk about the second entry in the Freddy Krueger oeuvre, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE, directed by Jack Sholder and starring Robert Englund, Mark Patton and Kim Myers. Widely considered one of the gayest horror movies ever made for its undertones of homosexuality, this one breaks all of the rules set forth in the original film, with Freddy running slipshod through a bunch of unsuspecting teens in the real world. We've got a great performance from Englund, really starting to find the character's comedic tone, and some gruesome special effects. There's also a gym coach in leather daddy gear, so that's a thing.
Go check out Brickbox Brewery [https://www.instagram.com/brickboxbrewery/] for live music, beer and food at 220 E Broadway Blvd in Tucson, Arizona

Whitney chose this month's Mental Health episode as her birthday episode, 1995's EMPIRE RECORDS, directed by Allan Moyle and starring Liv Tyler, Rory Cochrane, Ethan Embry, Robin Tunney and Renee Zellweger. The crew of stereotypical Gen X slackers working in a record store discover that their beloved workplace is slated to be consumed by a megastore chain, they fight to save their indy shop. Meanwhile, it's Rex Manning Day, and the whole store is excited... well, Liv Tyler is at least, as she's planning on offering her virginity to the aging pop star. It's very much a post-Clerks type of Gen X comedy that's endlessly quotable and massively charming with an absolute banger of a soundtrack.

For the next entry in our Tucson Music Scene month, we welcome Ty from the ska punk band Swigfoot [http://www.swigfoot.com/] and he's bringing us 1998's ALMOST HEROES directed by the great Christopher Guest and starring Matthew Perry and Chris Farley, in his final role before his untimely death. Leslie Edwards and Bartholomew Hunt are two explorers in the 1800s, racing their way across the country to chart a path to the Pacific Ocean, trying to beat Lewis and Clark to the punch. Joined by a band of misfits, they get into a bunch of shenanigans and, eventually, find that the real journey was their friendship... or something. This one was a big flop and we're going to have a great time diving into it.

We continue Tucson Music Scene Month with our pal, and local synth musician, 3CEUS brings us this black sheep entry in the Halloween franchise, HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH, directed by Tommy Lee Wallace and starring Tom Atkins and Stacey Nelkin. Better known as "the one without Michael Myers", we'll talk about why that happened and what is even going on in this batshit crazy tale of child murder, Irish warlocks, mysticism and rubber masks. Oh, and Tom Atkins is REALLY drunk the whole time.

This week we welcome our good friend Patch from Evasion [https://www.instagram.com/evasion_tucson/] to dive into the 1994 smash hit turd, STREET FIGHTER directed by Steven E. de Souza and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, the incomparable Raul Julia, Ming-Na Wen, Wes Studi and Kylie Minogue. When General Bison, the evil dictator of Shadaloo, takes a busload of relief workers hostage for ransom, Colonel Guile leads the Allied Nation's forces against him along with reporter Chun-Li and a cast of colorful characters. There's almost no street fighting and a lot of silly bullshit, but it was a lot of fun to watch and even more fun to discuss!
If you're in Tucson, Arizona, go see Evasion perform this Friday (Nov 8) at The Rock [https://rocktucson.com/] when they open for Crowbar!

Jamie Lee Curtis makes a short appearance in the film she describes as "a joke", but the meat of this turd sandwich takes place back in Haddonfield where a live internet reality show called Dangertainment hosted by Busta Rhymes is being filmed in Michael's old home. This stupid throwback to the early 2000s is widely considered the worst entry in the Halloween franchise and, in fact, was so bad that the planned sequel was canceled and the next Halloween film ended up being Rob Zombie's 2007 reboot.

Here's a little clip of our newest Patrons only episode for Halloween Horrorfest available at patreon.com/worsepeople [http://www.patreon.com/worsepeople]
-
For our penultimate entry in the Dirka Classic Movies series and our next episode of Halloween Horrorfest, we discuss this flick, directed by a guy apparently known as Mr. B.I.G., Bert I. Gordon, a monster movie master and schlock king. This one stars Joan Collins of Dynasty fame and follows her and a group of unsuspecting shlubs that she is trying to con into buying fancy houses in a high-class neighborhood that hasn't been built yet. They stumble upon gigantic irradiated ants that can also mind-control humans with pheromones that their Queen squirts into their faces. A bunch of no-names that we give fun nicknames to have to fight their way through the swampland to survive screeching ants, pod people and the wilderness.
