  • On today's adventure, we're joined by VlordGTZ (host of many podcasts, including the New York Times recommended, Demon Slayer Podcast), as we discuss episodes 39-42 of the 1986 Dragon Ball anime! As Goku makes his way through the rest of Muscle Tower with the help of his new robot friend, Android #8 (or Eighter as he and the rest of us affectionately refer to him)! We discuss how the pacing of these episodes drag even more in places then the last batch we covered, and even wonder if these may be some of the weakest episodes of the show we've watched so far. We also ask ourselves questions like, how is a "Powered Gun" any different then a regular gun?. Could Super Saiyan Blue Goku defeat the Jiggler? Are these episodes "later-season Simpsons" bad, or are they "middle-era Family Guy" bad? Listen and find out!!

  • Akira Toriyama passed away recently on March 1st, 2024, and the world won't be the same without him. Colton & Sakaki have a somewhat unorganized talk in order to get their feelings out and ruminate on what Toriyama's influence meant to both the world and their friendship.

  • On today's adventure, we're joined by both Randy & Doug from We Gotta Podcast, as we discuss episodes 35-38 of the 1986 Dragon Ball anime! Where Goku crash lands in a snowy village and invades the nearby Red Ribbon army base located at the terrifying Muscle Tower! We discuss in particular how though the pacing of these episodes compared to the original manga material may unfortunately drag down quite a bit of the tension and comedy, they still manage to be quite enjoyable! Even with some added spiciness thanks to the English dub! You won't believe what shenanigans Murasaki might get up to while White isn't looking! Enjoy!

We discuss some differences between the anime and manga when it comes to the build up of Colonel Silver and the depiction of General Red, and we also even discuss Sakaki's thoughts after recently watching Resurrection F at the the top of the show! • On today’s adventure, we’re joined by Kendra, host of the My Hero Academia Podcast, to cover episodes 29-31 of the original 1986 Dragon Ball anime! As Goku and friends depart and go their separate ways after the 21st Martial Arts Tournament and we’re treated to our first batch of mostly anime original material meant to help viewers transition into the Red Ribbon Army arc! Join us as we talk about why Episode 29 in particular ends up rendering Nam’s entire reason for participating in the tournament to be kind of pointless, rejoice at the return of the Pilaf gang, and wonder whether that stinky homeless kid is gonna have more of a role in this arc at all?? Enjoy!!

Nate provides his perspective as both a fan of action flicks and a martial artist himself as we go through the fight and talk about why its just so awesome! What references to other martial arts films can be found in these episodes? Why are Dragon Ball's insert songs so good? And why hasn't there been an episode of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia where the gang gets into anime? All these questions answered as we round out the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai arc!!

  • On today's adventure, Colton & Sakaki take a small break from their watch-through of the 1986 Dragon Ball anime to talk about, quite frankly, an amazing Dragon Ball fan film, directed and produced by Naseer Pasha and his crew at Stray Dog Studios, entitled Legend: A Dragon Ball Tale! A short film about a prince named Vegeta, landing on Earth to recruit the long lost golden warrior, Goku, for an upcoming war right in the middle of a fight with his future wife, Chi-Chi, at the World Martial Arts Tournament! But not before another golden warrior named Broly is able to get his licks in with the both of them! Our adventurers can't help but gush about how perfect everything about this short film is! From the music, the voice performances, and ESPECIALLY the animation! If you haven't seen Legend yet, definitely do so before listening to this episode of the podcast so you can join in on the gush-fest with them! You won't be disappointed!

We continue the 21st martial arts tournament as we finish off the quarterfinals and head onto the semi-finals as Lum talks about why these episodes are so much fun, as well as highlighting some moments from the English dub! Meanwhile, Vlord talks about how cool Namu is while also acknowledging that Toriyama's Indian representation (as well as some of his other POC characters) could use a little work. So sit back, grab a glass of milk and watch Jackie put on a show! A martial artists' life is the only life for me!!

We set off on a new adventure (arc) with Episodes 14-16 of the Dragon Ball anime, as Goku begins his training under Master Roshi along with new rival, Krillin! But even before they start their training, they have to prove themselves worthy by finding Roshi a hot babe to abduct and have live them with at Kame House!

......I mean, that's what they do. Don't look at me. I didn't write this show.

Join us as we discuss more of Toriyama's brand of slightly problematic, but very well timed comedy, as well as some more voice actor trivia, and even some of Grant's thoughts on the dreaded Dragon Ball Evolution!? Enjoy!

Marion joins us to cover Episodes 10-13 in particular to round out the very first arc of the show, where Goku and the gang infiltrate Pilaf's castle to get back their stolen Dragon Balls, but more specifically to talk about how Oolong saves the world from Pilaf's reign! Yeah, that's right. You know what we're talking about!

Topics for this episode include our thoughts on most of the cast's stellar performances throughout, the comedic timing and genius of the Pilaf gang's antics, and how the anime in some very small cases might actually be better then the original manga!? • On today's (very arduous) adventure, Colton & Sakaki continute through the 1986 Dragon Ball anime with Episodes 4-6, where both Colton's favorite and his most hated character appear simultaneously! Yes, while we are introduced to the pure, virgin bandit, Yamcha, we are also unfortunately introduced to the sleazy, sex pest, communist pig, Oolong (What bias? I don't see any bias). Colton has more bad then good to talk about with this batch of episodes, mostly with Episode 6 in particular, as Oolong spikes both Goku and Bulma's drinks and "shenanigans" proceeds from there...but we still have our fair enough share of things we also liked about these episodes as well, so there's that! We promise the rest of the episodes covering this first arc of the show won't be as much of a bummer!

Content warning for discussions of the sexual assault portrayed in Episode 6 around from 47:42 to 1:08:41 if you want to skip this part of the podcast entirely.

  • On today’s adventure, Colton & Sakaki continue their way through the first Dragon Ball TV anime with episodes 2 & 3, as the show becomes an odd couple sitcom for a little bit, at least until our heroes have to go back to fighting bears, helping lost turtles and finding more dragon balls. Our hosts cover a lot of ground for only going through two episodes, such as what they like about the animation and pacing of the show so far, and their positive feelings on the original material starring Pilaf and his gang, as well as their complicated feelings on the character of Muten Roshi. They even talk about more stuff that no one else cares about, like what kind of food Sakaki has never tried before and more comparisons to Hunter x Hunter! Enjoy!!
