  • Discovering your neurodiversity in adulthood can be a shock to the system, it takes time to really understand the gravity and effect it has had on you. Post diagnosis, there can be a "skill regression". Symptoms become worse overnight as your coping mechanisms fall apart and this has a real impact on people's career. This is not something within your control, many ADHD'ers are prone to people pleasing and really WANT to be amazing at their jobs. They feel like failures when inevitably their symptoms cause them to underperform.


    On the flip side of the coin, I have heard more and more complaints from neurotypical peers about colleagues, newly diagnosed with ADHD, who are missing deadlines/missing meetings etc at work and when questioned their answer is "I can't do it because of my ADHD". They are frustrated at "picking up the slack" and (mistakenly) feel it's "just an excuse".


    Neither party is happy with this situation, but I have GREAT NEWS.....


    The solutions can be extremely simple. Honestly! Both sides needs can be met with just a little negotiation and we can all, be happier within the workplace.


    Because those late-diagnosed are brand new to the complexities of ADHD, they can find it difficult to advocate for themselves. Most struggle to even know what might help them! Mix that with HR and traditional businesses being mostly uneducated on neurodiversity - of course nobody knows what to do! So in today's episode I'm going to give you step by step instructions on what is available and help in creating a reasonable adjustments plan to suit both you AND your manager.

  • If there is one place you should be able to relax, it's at home! It took me a long time to see areas where I was making life harder on myself in my own home because "that's the way it's done". When I finally became aware of it, it was actually quite funny 😂 no one can even see what I'm doing in the comfort of my own home so who am I performing for exactly?! We don't get a gold star from anyone for the way we choose to live (though sometimes we do get shamed and guilted but that's for another episode!) so why do we sometimes find ourselves avoiding the things that would help and support us?


    Today I'm walking you through your home, room by room and sharing ideas you may not have thought of. Lots are so simple you will wonder why you've been complicating it for so long!

  • The ADHD is strong for me today, I've been on a winning following all of my habits for a while now but today the inevitable "crash and burn for no reason" has arrived 😮‍💨 so let's talk about it....


    The world won't stop turning, my ADHD isn't going away ever and there's no magical potion I can drink to snap back into my "good" routines and habits. But that doesn't mean I can't improve the situation.   • Emotional regulation issues are common with Adult ADHD. When looking for advice on how to process those emotions, there's one technique that keeps coming up, no matter the source.... JOURNALLING.


    Writing down your thoughts and feelings can work wonders but I don't know about you.....my ADHD brain works way too fast for my hands to keep up! (Don't even get me started on the intense boredom of typing!) So I came up with this hack as alternative. Even managed to give it a manifesting angle to make it extra juicy!!

  • I'm often asked, if I had to choose 1 ADHD hack, above all others.....what would I choose??!


    Obviously, this is a big ask. ADHD has such a variety of symptoms and behaviours, it's impossible to choose just one, simple strategy to cover them all.

  • We all know I love a bit of that delulu, manifesting my reality, solutions only life! But I skipped an important step and I don't want you to fall into the same trap.   • 🤯I had no idea that I had ADHD for the first 34 years of my life. I ignored the struggles, pushed down the emotions, shamed myself, created elaborate coping strategies and went on blissfully unaware. But it became glaringly obvious, the minute I became a mother. It's not a unique story, a lot of us lost our ability to cope with ADHD symptoms once we became parents.... which I actually think is a great thing, hard as it seems, because I may never have known! ❤️


    ❤️Our children are our everything, it's natural to want to be the "perfect parent" but without accepting our shortcomings first, we won't even come close. I'm proud of today's episode, there's some real value and insight in there that I found through research on the topic, along with my own trial and error, but the improvement is ongoing. You are never finished on the journey of parenthood.   • Have you seen the memes???


    The ones going around social media that say it's not possible to form habits with ADHD 😭😬

    I'll be honest, they scared the life out of me. What's the point in trying if a disability dictates it's impossible😐

    THEN I did my research (and some self reflection) and realised not only is there no scientific backing for that hypothesis, but we KNOW that can't be true! I'm willing to bet you have formed plenty of bad habits right? And if you dig deep, there will be some positive ones in there too - it's all about HOW we form those habits that dictates whether we lock them in or not.


    It is absolutely possible for ADHDers to create a habit, we just need a system specific to our brains! On reflection, I have created a wealth of healthy habits. Since my diagnosis I: Exercise regularly, follow a mindful morning routine and daily gratitude practice, follow a weekly planning and organisation routine and consistently post this podcast every Friday! For all of these achievements I can trace their success back to Four Simple Steps that I'm sharing in today's episode.

  • Story Time!!! ADHDFest has started 2024 with a bang🎉, so I'm here to share the secret to how I've done it (so far!)🤫


    Career has always been my ADHD Achilles heel. Although I'm sure I've looked successful over the years - I was an actress on prime time television and in theatre, working alongside celebrities such as Sheridan Smith, Greg Davies and a fair few Noughties Popstars in my Panto days (any Steps/Sugababes fans in the house?) - but acting work is unpredictable and antisocial, there's very little downtime and you travel to wherever the work is.


    I'm a homebird at heart and after I had my son, Theo, I never wanted to leave him, so I needed another plan🤷‍♀️ .

    Enter Tara the Entrepreneur!💪 Aside from acting, I have had roughly 8 different careers, including 3 different businesses and I have enjoyed them all.... but it came time to create something of my own, from scratch, that I would never get bored of. That's where the idea of ADHDFest was born and in today's episode, you will hear the strategy that has built that idea into a full time business! 🔥❤️

  • People Pleasing, or the "Fawn" response, is prevalent in those of us with ADHD, it's a natural result of spending years being misunderstood by the culture but also ourselves. You may think you're just a kind, empathic, helpful person (and you probably are!) but people pleasing has nothing to do with any of those things and is actually very damaging in the long term. It leads to burnout, inauthentic relationships and a loss of identity - I speak from personal experience! But what I can also tell you from that experience....is that it doesn't have to be that way. It can feel scary but I promise, once you learn how important it is to listen to and respect your own needs, life will become SO much easier 🥰 you will wonder why you kept it up for so long!

  • Before my ADHD diagnosis, I felt like I was failing.


    Failing at Motherhood, Failing at Adulting...heck, Failing at Life! The realisation that I had a disability that explained my struggles 🤯 I wasn't lazy, this wasn't a choice, it blew my mind and gave me some relief ❤️ But the years of brainwashing, criticism and anxiety has been hard to undo, even knowing everything I believed about myself before was a lie! Over the last 2.5 years I have taught myself through trial and error, to shake off that old programming and rebuild my self confidence to a point where I am actually free to grow and enjoy life without shame and negative thoughts holding me back. I want to share my strategies with you 🥰


    Recent studies have shown low self esteem and negative self talk are much higher in those of us with ADHD than our neurotypical peers (especially for late diagnosed women) and that's why WE NEED TO KEEP TALKING about this. So those early in their journey know they are not alone.

    This trick has turned my nemesis chore (the dishes) into something I actually LOOK FORWARD to! I know....weird. I would have laughed in someone's face if they ever said that to me before but I'm willing to feel a bit silly to tell you the truth, it is possible to flip the switch from Hate/Love on household chores and life admin 🥰 and I'm going to tell you exactly how I did it on this week's episode.
