  • In many ways this EPISODE 77 with the sensationally enthusiastic, passionate, nutrition expert, SAMMY BARNETT, should be regarded as a cornerstone to the joyful and loving mission of A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE ... and CHIP.

Is it possible to develop a solid love for self without an almost sacred respect for our body?

While not said precisely in those words, Sammy and this highly informative discussion certainly advocates the value in first learning to be in awe of our most incredible machine. Through her own painful uncertain journey and most powerful discoveries, Sammy Barnett is clear that the way you treat your body is one of the greater determinants of your wellbeing and happiness.

Sammy was 11, when she first experienced signs of Generalised Anxiety and Panic Disorder. Social Anxiety, Depression and plummeting self-value were her constant companions throughout school life and early adulthood. Her road to greater health led to the discovery of how food and lifestyle choices impact wellbeing, moods and relationships. Consequently, her passion for Nutritional Medicine was inspired and now drives her daily mission to revolutionize nutrition education, particular in our schools. This is why you are going to hear and understand gem after gem from this International expert. Here is a taste (if you'll excuse the pun) ...

It's not just what you eat that is important, it's more about what you ABSORB. Did you know that the trillion plus bacteria in our microbiome, far outnumber the amount of cells in our body? When you consider that intermittent fasting and intuitive eating allow these trillion bacteria to ignite a cleansing detox of damaged and potentially pre-cancerous cells, then maybe it is the healthy balance of bacteria families in our gut that are actually core to our overall health and wellbeing. Therefore, beware of certain anti-biotics, which have the capacity to destroy gut bacteria. There maybe other ways.Value natural food sources rather than processed vitamin and probiotic pills to build a strong, fully functioning microbiome. Afterall, we too are a natural being.

The volume of advices that this episode offers are immense.

In fact, may I suggest that you have a note pad and pen and maybe the first message you should write down is simply this ... Respect for my body is your foundation for greatest self-love.
And for that profound message, you can thank Sammy Barnett.

  • Janeen Vosper is a born coach but in this episode, we also discovered that Janeen is a natural explorer. Yes, we celebrate her expertise, clearly on display as author of Good Girls Do Sell: The Modern Businesswoman's Guide to Authentic Selling: Vosper. We salute her 30 years of international training and speaking experience, and we recommend you listen to her superb weekly podcast We Are Women, but most of all we introduce you to a woman who just loves to learn, grow and then fulfil her daily mission of inspiring people to start doing what they first believed was not possible. Janeen is a master coach, because she is an extension of her own profound exploration.

Janeen advocates that you raise your children as if they were your grandchildren. She suggests parents dilute the heavy-handed guidance, the directing, the demanding, that conditions the child to only see life according to their parent’s shaping. She suggests we give the child more space to discover their true self by offering less influence, in the same way that most grandparents enjoy their grandchild, without taking full responsibility for them. (Consider that in light of the lessons from Hilary Langford and the Enneagram in episodes 71-73.)

And how about this for a thought! Janeen suggests we are part of our own ‘ancestral chain’ with traceable scientific evidence that seven preceding generations genetically live within us. Accepting this as truth, it also means that we therefore influence the 7 generations to come. Given that each generation spans 20 to 30 years, Jeneen presents the value of seeing our life with a sense of responsibility for the next two centuries.

Maybe our life isn’t as fleeting as we thought? Maybe, our decisions today do carry weight for generations to come? Is anybody thinking Climate Change?

Thank you, Janeen, for reminding us that our personal brand can only be seen as solid when we act consistently. We must minimise the surprises when it comes to our behaviour. The stronger your brand the more consistent you have to be!

Thank you, Janeen, for teaching us first to see ourselves as human and not as a product of our Australian, European or American cultural CONDITIONING.

This woman is a master coach making this episode so very profound. Gee, you will enjoy Janeen Vosper!

You can make all the money in the world, but be the least successful person who ever lived. If you can't keep your word to yourself it simply shows how little regard you have for yourself.Failure is not some out-of-the-blue, colossal sudden event. It usually arises from not doing all of the little things over a long period of time. Love is so wild, it is so free, so infinite in itself, it cannot be defined.Your discipline reflects the love you have for you. When was the last time you stepped into the unknown?

Rarely has an episode discussed so many topics in such a hard-edged punchy way. In less than an hour, you will be teased and prodded as to why an Adventurous Lifestyle is somewhat mandatory if you seek to maximise your life. Coupled with Adventure comes the Fun of Playing, another concept that has gone missing in western lifestyles. Our guest, Andrew Cominos will even share with you the pros and cons of a different adventure: Polyamory, the practice of having multiple intimate relationships with the consent of all parties involved. Andrew tells it as it is, because he has been there! The discussion from the 28:52 mark of this episode is riveting. Bravely, Andrew goes into great depth as to how polyamory can work for some and why for most, it cannot. It is a discussion that will challenge many, be convenient for some and will intrigue most.

At age 35 Andrew Cominos has already had a tumultuous life, but he has used the lessons of it wisely. His journey has culminated in a rare business creation called Project Remarkable. It is rare because there is no doubt that everything Andrew does in this business is a full extension of his values. You get the feeling that the activities of his business are what he would do anyway, irrespective of the dollars it generates - a bit like this podcast. Like Andrew, we find it hard to call this work!

Consequently, you will meet a truly unique sales coach, who believes that business performance has little to do with special skills or techniques but everything to do with the synergy between personal fulfillment and your love for what you do, under the banner of work. So, to help people rediscover or find that fulfilment, this sales coach takes his clients into the world of the wild, into extraordinary adventures that allow them to play, feel joy, and reconnect with their true selves, enabling them to talk about a business that truly reflects that real self. Such business is rarely a strain. When it is congruent with the real you, it is a joy. Stress then is not part of the equation.

Perhaps the quote that Andrew delivers in this podcast about the 'purpose of life' best summarises what awaits you: enjoy and maximise the passage of time.

If you feel you are not doing this, then stick in the earpieces and dive into this episode.

  • Emmagness Ruzvidzo was a skilled Marketing Strategist capable of building a company’s brand and positioning and her track record in Southern Africa was excellent. So when she, her husband and baby girl left Zimbabwe for Australia, their only thought was, What could go wrong?

    Well, nothing. And everything.

On the one hand, Em’s new personal business is now smashing it as a Marketing Strategist, Coach and Trainer. On the other hand, her journey since arriving in Oz raises many questions about the Australian style of management. You see, Em was a girl born of tribal ways where the building of community was a central focus. Values such as personal connection, seeing the good in all, servitude, listening, ‘tough love’, and valuing people’s opinions defined Em’s management style. She held regular meetings at her home, where her fridge and food were open to all. They were equals, not subordinates. She built productive teams quickly. Her people not only respected her; they adored her. But this didn’t sit well with the rest of the executive team, whose status-seeking, power-laden, righteous, protect-thyself ways clashed with Em’s style…and her results.

This episode will question you: Do you build community? Is building community around you even important to you? Or do you prefer a sheltered way of living, where knowing your neighbour is perceived to dilute your own privacy? Does this reflect your fear of connecting with people?

If this is you, then you must hear Emmagness talk of the Ubuntu concept: 'I am because you are'.

It is a concept that honours and draws from the wisdom of the past, and hearing Em explain it will lift your awareness of the powerful potential for community in your own life.

It would appear to me that out of this episode one will come to realise that inner joy and love of life, people and self is impossible without the contribution to and building of strong supportive communities.

  • Last week, podcast host Bernie K went under the Enneagram microscope with Hilary Langford. This week you get the same opportunity with Hilary leading Lachlan ‘Chip’ Huddy through the Enneagram maze. The beauty of this episode is that the patterns that determine the way Chip operates in life are so different to those of Bernie’s. There is every chance that you will see yourself in either of these case studies and, by taking onboard the feedback from Hilary, you'll have the opportunity to become more aware of ways to modify your life to produce greater calm and joy.

The discussion that evolves about how two contrasting personalities and characters such as Bernie and Chip can work together is a lesson about maximising connection. It is a study of how to partner and an educational message to those who want to create greater teamwork.

On the surface, the episodes of the last three weeks may appear to be a little self-indulgent, but in reality they are a message about the power of vulnerability and transparency. A Journey With Bernie and Chip offers you two outstanding case studies to increase your understanding of self by enhancing your awareness of what really happens in this game of life.

  • This is an unusual episode. Hilary Langford puts podcast host Bernie K r under the Enneagram Microscope, where well entrenched patterns of behaviour formed in infancy are uncovered. These behavioural patterns still determine the current way Bernie sees and responds to the Game of Life. Yes, he is diagnosed as a number 3, the Achiever and the Performer, but what does that really mean and furthermore what is the potential cost to seeing every day in this larger-than-life way?

While Bernie is well recognised for his desire to inspire ‘goodness’, the question will be raised as to whether his altruistic mission reflects an awakened man or one unconsciously driven by his own need to be loved. This episode will reveal.

Of course, for you, the take home pay is obvious. In this episode, your're encouraged to use Bernie K as your own case study. Use this robust, revealing discussion to analyse and identify your own patterns of behaviour, which may influence your own perceptions and paradigms of the world you experience.

Rarely has A Journey With Bernie and Chip been, so open, so authentic and so real as this one. We are so looking forward to your comments and feedback. Don’t hold back, dear listeners!

  • Our listeners love it, when A Journey With Bernie & Chip takes full advantage of the wisdom of the years and that's exactly what this episode does so abundantly. It's a one-hour chat with Hilary Langford, who at 75 years of age has most certainly experienced the fullness of life. She was born in India where she spent the first 7 years and even though that was 68 years ago, she can still recognise how those early years impacted her life to this day.

Professionally, she has been a dynamo, where she has led 1000s of teambuilding workshops and leadership trainings for any number of local and global companies in so many countries. However, when it comes to identifying that one coaching instrument in which she is 'Queen', then you need to hear Hilary talk of the Enneagram. The Enneagram is a powerful self-awareness tool that allows any individual to recognise how the events and experiences of childhood helped to mould a pattern of responses that move with you throughout life. These 9 fundamental patterns, which effectively define how one sees and responds to the world, arise from the child's want for acceptance and approval from parents and one's immediate environment. The fascinating learning is that as they travel with us. They can work for us or against us for the rest of our life. Hilary Langford is an expert in facilitating the teachings and learnings that the Enneagram has taught for 18 centuries, when first conceived by a Christian mystic who lived in Alexandria, Egypt during the 4th century. So you can imagine, the value Hilary brings to this episode, as she shares with us how our layer of patterned responses can determine our own capacity to find joy and love for self and others. It makes this episode rich in 'take home pays'.

Hilary is a storyteller. She loves to quote those who are even wiser than her (and there aren't too many). Couple this with her high degree of transparency and comfort with vulnerability and you have a listening experience that is engaging and ever so rich in valuable learnings. For example, in the final third of this interview, you will hear Hilary speak of the second love of her life. It is there that you will learn of some beautiful ingredients that inspire true 'treasured love' between dedicated partners.

Then there was her discovery of space before busyness and why we are all born with a reservoir of love deep inside us. In Hilary's words, we were born as a gem ... a rare jewel ... a light of love. I sense these may well be the words and phrases you will use at the end of this episode to describe our beautiful guest.

  • As a boy, I used to love stories of Mother Teresa and the depth of her compassion she gave to 'the poor'. I struggled to believe that such a Saint could even exist. Today, A Journey With Bernie & Chip with superb film maker and producer, James Lingwood, will offer you a male equivalent. In this episode, you will meet Father Joe Maier, an Irish-American Priest of the People, who for more than 50 years, has lived with and served the Klong Toey slums of Bangkok providing vulnerable children alternatives to and havens from violence, sex abuse, child trafficking, and prostitution. In the process, Father Joe has empowered Bangkok’s poorest families and communities to believe in their value. He has unified the Catholic, Buddhist and Muslim 'poor of the slum' to see their strength as one community. In return, they love him. That's not quite right, they adore him. He is their Jesus. Sometimes he is a very tough Jesus. These articles will validate the status of this great man.

    Joe Maier - Wikipedia
Father Joe, Bangkok’s Priest to the Poor, Thrives Among Fellow Outcasts - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

You will read how Father Joe, together with the equally extraordinary Sister Maria and Sister Joan, have administered the ongoing refuge of The Mercy Centre, which has become a hub of grace, love and strength for all slum residents. Thirty-three schools inspired by Father Joe and his team now serve the needs of the slum children. These achievements are but a few. His lifetime achievement award presented by Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand says it all. His story must be told.

There are stories in this episode that will strangle your emotions. There are stories in which I lost it. You too will struggle to remain composed. There are stories that will delight you. There are stories here that the whole world must know about, which is why James Lingwood is passionate about bringing a feature film of Father Joe's life into the hearts and lounge rooms of television viewers worldwide.

Please watch the short 15-minute documentary Through The Eyes Of Children. It will give you a feel for the power and value of James Lingwood's film to come.

If you don't need any more validation than this film and this episode to want to financially contribute, then it is as simple as visiting this tax-deductible website:

All proceeds will ensure that this story is told to millions worldwide and so it should. It is one of the best ever told on A Journey With Bernie & Chip.

  • This is an outstanding episode.

You are about to experience Life through a Camera Lens ... the Lens of Producer and Director James Lingwood. I asked Google to share with me what it knew of James and in reply, it first sent me this comment ... "There is no doubt that James pushes the envelope a lot further than most people. Throughout the years, I have worked with a lot of people in the production business, and I have not found anyone more professional, focused or creative than James. I have worked with him on the road for over 100 days and I'm so looking forward to the next 100."
It was a testimonial quote from a Celebrity Presenter who James directed for months on end.
Focused, Creative, Connectable, Driver, Making it Happen, Resilient, Spontaneous, Living in the Now ... You will hear the power of all of these qualities when they collectively fashion, mould and shape a life. This is what high profile actors like Jackie Chan and Geoffrey Rush so valued in James Lingwood.

It is also why James has received over sixty film and television awards for his outstanding cinematography and why he is now only one of 85 members of the prestigious International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers in the USA. IQ membership can only be offered on the recommendation of a peer and consists of 80 plus of the world's most awarded film and television producer-directors from 45 countries. Just based on this resume, your appetite for this episode should be ravenous, but if you have the time to watch this short masterful film piece by James Lingwood, then you might start salivating ... https://bit.ly/slaughterhouse-daf

Early in this episode, you will hear of a film called VOYAGE OF THE GREAT SOUTHERN ARK in which James captured landscapes that were 4 Billion years old. Needless to say, James will teach you about the value and benefit of seeing yourself as insignificant.

You will hear and understand how French Films of the 1980's sparked within James the power of spontaneity, creativity and innovation and provided a platform for James to explore the world one day at a time.

You will hear what deep compassion looks like, when James shares with you the story of Fr Joe, the Irish priest working in the slums of Bangkok. You may feel a tear.

This is a rich episode from a guest who in some ways actually lives the title of the book which features in this episode ... The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson ... yet on the other hand, its richness is in the power of James Lingwood to unselfishly share himself, his passion and his values through film inspired by his Lens view of Life.

  • The learning and the offerings from this episode with Narelle Gatti start with her rural upbringing. Listen to Narelle and you will hear over and over again a recurring theme that simply says ‘toughen up sister … shit happens … and move on’. It is the country way.

However, one would have thought that when an individual at the age of 42, is officially declared so 'visually impaired' that all she can see are blurred shadowy movements, that they would experience ‘loss’, a little bit of ‘why me’ and have that tinge of feeling sorry for oneself. I am sure that to some extent Narelle must have had her moments, but no one would know it from the energetic, fully alive approach, that is this woman’s everyday demeanor. This mother of three ‘kicks ass’ and as per her farming heritage, she accepts the challenge and nothing is going to stop her from experiencing the fullness of life. Consequently, she, with her family, her beautiful guide dog and her cane, leave for Europe very soon.

The messages of this episode are clear …

It’s not what happens to you that determines the quality of your life, it is how you respond and move forward.

It doesn’t matter the circumstance, your integrity is uncompromisable.

If you want to help disabled or marginalised persons, don’t assume ‘they can’t … they can and most, want you to foster their independence.

If you want understand more about LOVE, than study Narelle’s Guide Dog! It is a relationship about ‘being there for each other’, built on total trust and celebrated joy. Three ingredients which Narelle suggests probably has a place in all human relationships as well! Welcome to the profound story of Narelle Gatti ... a blind lady who maximises what IS, not what she doesn't have. What an inspiration!

  • The value of people like Ben Hosking and Tim Alexander (Episode 61) is that they help one to understand why your capacity to assert and your confidence to stand up for what is right is an essential contribution to a world of peace and equity. Furthermore, you can't help but notice hnotice that in people like Ben and Tim, they exhibit such a strong, balanced persona. They instinctively know what is important, and what is trivial. They simply don't sweat the 'small stuff'. This of course means they are less distracted giving them more time, more space to choose joy in their life. It has been such a pleasure to not only understand the value of this quality, but to see it in action. As both Ben and Tim suggest ... it may well be your ability to deliver 'tough love' that actually determines how effective you are in spreading your own 'goodness' and value to others. You will hear this message loud and clear in this Episode with the extraordinary Ben Hosking.

Ben Hosking is an 11-year veteran with the Northern Territory Police. To hear his story of one of his first 'call outs' to address a domestic violence incident in Tennant Creek is both enlightening and hilarious given that he 'tased' himself not the perpetrator. It is the way he tells the story, that will so entertain you. However, let not his humorous description of this one encounter hide the fact that you are meeting an extraordinary talent and highly skilled human. Ben Hosking is an expert dealing with High-Risk Domestic Crime and Counter Terrorism. He is accomplished in Dignitary Protection having provided safe environments and passage for Manny Pacquaio during his 'Battle of Brisbane' boxing bout with Jeff Horn, and for HRH Prince Harry and Prince William during their visits to Australia.

He has frequently attracted extraordinary assignments offering close personal protection for Ultra High Net Worth individuals and their families. His story of protecting such a family as they played on the beach of a Pacific Island on one of their holiday ventures is delightful. As 'Chip' points out, Ben gives us insights into the lives of the 'rich and famous' and helps us realize that there is little value for ourselves or for them when we choose to idolise.

    Such a different brilliant episode.

  • The name Viktor Frankl is forever attached to the profound book ... MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING. If you haven't read it, then you have missed out on the greatest of life lessons. It is a wisdom bible. It is compulsory reading. To purchase the book, simply go online and type in its title or watch this video ...
MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING BY VIKTOR FRANKL (youtube.com)

It was Victor Frankl who said, "We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts, comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way."

Mary Scott could have been an ally to the great Austrian Psychiatrist for she too saw humankind's choice to respond to deeply deprived states. It wasn't Auschwitz, but it was Nauru, a Pacific Island and an offshore Australian Immigration Detention Facility. It was there that she saw people give up and take their own lives. They had lost purpose. She witnessed those whose behavior became depraved in the face of perceived hopelessness and it was there that she also saw greatness in those who refused to let their environment determine their identity. Mary Scott had an experience of Viktor Frankl in action.

Mary is a Godsend for so many women who find themselves in the second half of life seeking a fresh start. They have done their childbearing. They have contributed to society and now they seek a new existence, but where do they start?
Enter Mary Scott, a trained Psychotherapist and 'Confidence Coach' who teaches them to first manage that voice inside which questions their possibilities. Mary helps them to turn down the volume on the voice that says they are not good enough. In her own words, "What a joy it is to watch them come out of the shadows, to reclaim their power and to discover a greater self."

This born storyteller is about to delight, educate and turn on your light switch.
You are about to discover that a few of your light bulbs haven't been turned on for quite a while.

  • This episode is a paradox. We explore possibilities of finding more love for self, life and people with one of the great Australian Muay Thai fighters of our time ... Dane ‘Daddy Kool’ Beauchamp and he certainly lived up to his reputation. Dane in this episode was very 'Kool'. It's so easy to speak about his record in which he won more than 80% of his fights and his achievements in winning Australian and Intercontinental belts are folklore, but his famous victories are not the real story. As Dane himself says, 'It was the dedication to training and routine that earnt the 'kudos'. I reckon most of my training sessions were harder than my fights.'

At one stage of his fight career, Dane was so good that no one in his weight division would fight him. He had to put on 4 kgs of muscle without losing his trademark speed and footwork just to find worthy opponents. Changing the shape of his body was tough dedicated work. He trained every day. His discipline was legendary, and this is where Dane offered us so much.

"Being disciplined is the ultimate self-love."

Wait till you hear what Dane has to say at the 20-minute mark about the importance of routine, discipline, effort, energy life and self-love. It's not for me to elaborate on his message, it's up to you to absorb a wisdom so profound. In addition, the metaphor Dane offered comparing life to the continuous mental battle between throwing your own punches while running the risk of being hit hard by life was powerful. The way he explains why attacking life is so much more important than worrying how hard it will hit you is insightful. His reasoning is so insightful. It sort of reminded me of the old Rocky Balboa clip where 'The Rock' had this to say to his protecting, safe and conservative son ... Rocky's Inspirational Speech to His Son | ROCKY BALBOA (youtube.com)

It's almost ironic that we could learn so much about love for self and life through a pugilist, but it is Dane's constant dedication to the battle which allows him to understand life so much more than most. The take home pay in this episode will delight you.

  • What a joy it is to bring Louise Bennet back to you, although as you will learn in this episode, the host of the show errs on a number of occasions by Freudianly calling her Louise BENEFIT!! Well, was it a humble mistake or was Bernie sincerely giving Louise a new identity that summarises what she truly gives us?
Afterall, your feedback from previous episodes suggests that Louise B has already brought incredible worth to over 8000 listeners. While this episode only covers one more additional poem, the conversation it created is so enlightening. Her poem is called 'Nature is God' and I can honestly say that the insight of this incredible 34-year-old woman might give you the virtual evidence you need to be convinced we are all connected. Louise explains that the plants, the trees, the animals and humanity consume the same air, the same sunlight and same water sources. These elements shape all living things.
Whatever is the Force of Nature that created the beasts of the savannah or the fish of the deep seas is the same force that created us. We are all part of Nature. As we look to the stars at nighttime, we see Nature once again on display. It is everywhere. Is it part of us? Does it flow through us. Is it within us? Is it us ?
One poem ... one woman ... one clear definitive answer.
With the added intelligence of Chip as co-host, this discussion reaches liberating heights which support the Vincent Freeman adage, who once said ... "They say every atom in our bodies was once a part of a star. Maybe, I'm not leaving. Maybe I'm going home". I suspect you will have a question to answer at the end of this episode !!

  • Episode 60 will tell you the story of a girl, who was sexually traumatised between the ages of 11 to 13. It will explain how her experience inspired a constant feeling that the world was unsafe. The only way, that a teenage Louise Bennet could cope was to combat that feeling by becoming EVERYONE'S PROTECTOR. The problem was that Louise's friends and romantic interests didn't want a Protector. Consequently, her relationships often ended in strain, stress and struggle. She even blames the demise of her young marriage on her overprotective ways, although she is thankful that her married years gave her a most precious daughter. Instinctively, Louise knew that this trauma inspired behavior was suffocating her life. Little did she know that it was in fact destroying her cells. That's what Louise believes. Louise was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. As the photo shows, it has already taken her right mammary.

Yet, her response to this arduous, chaotic and painful journey has led to her discovery of her higher true self. She is now a person driven by love as a purpose. In episode 60, you met an ANGEL OF JOY already on the pathway to becoming a liberated person ... and there of course lays the paradox.

The learnings from that episode were profound, but little did we know that virtually her entire adult journey has been documented in the form of brilliant, graphic, extraordinary poetry and prose. Each poem extraordinarily captures the state, the fight, the light that Louise was experiencing in that moment. Each poem is a precious gift describing life in that moment. The learnings encapsulated in Louise's writings are powerful and potent.

This is a unique episode, in which a young woman shares her most private writings, so that you the listener may discover wisdoms without encountering the potential torment that has intruded Louise's life. Still, the miracle needs to be understood. Why is it that Louise doesn't it see as an unworthy intervention? Her cancer is welcome, as it sheds the trauma of her past leaving her to see the beauty and the love that truly defines her.

If you would like a copy of Louise's extraordinary anthology of poems heard on this podcast plus an understanding of what she was teaching us, then simply text Bernie on +61 412982444 or email him on ... [email protected].

  • There is a little bit of Mother Teresa in this episode. It was she who understood that through physical suffering, one can enhance their spiritual strength. Consequently, it is exactly how her 'Missionaries of Charity Sisters' live. To call them 'minimalists' would be an understatement. They virtually live as the 'poor', so that they can understand and fully respect the very people they serve. In addition, living without 'worldly conveniences' inspires them to find their happiness and joy from within. Today's guest resonates with that inner journey from suffering to spiritual contentment.

Margarita Aunei-Stowers is the Founder and CEO of a remarkable charity called Giv3 Our Time. They feed the Homeless with food, love and hope. After you hear her story and the unrelenting purpose of her life, you will at the least, want to donate, so joyfully I give you access to their website via their donation page ... www.giv3ourtime.com/donate/ ... you must visit it.

    Margarita certainly knows suffering.
She felt suffering when she too lived without shelter in the deadly Vines St, Sunset Bvld and Argyle Ave of Hollywood. That was terrifying.
She encountered a deep suffering, when with her fellow 'Homies', she too received the daily gift of 'isolation' from a world that arrogantly walked silently by.
Does anybody really care? Who cares?
This was a powerful mental and emotional suffering.
She suffered every time she had to ask permission to use a bathroom or to enter a grocery store for nothing but basics.
This was the suffering of being harshly judged for not having a shower.
She experienced the suffering of not knowing how to pick herself up and rise again, of not knowing where to turn ... this was the suffering of 'no hope', which was her existence for many years both in the avenues of Los Angeles and streets of Brisbane.

Somehow, someway, Margarita was able to find a pathway out. Maybe it was her faith relationship with God, founded at a very early age, that kept her searching. Maybe it was the thousands of muttered prayers murmured through the trembling lips of her beautiful and believing mother. Who knows from where Margarita's resolve came, but somehow, she eventually found a simple shelter here in the Brisbane bayside suburb of Wynnum. She is thankful.

Time and gratitude have now allowed her to convert the sufferings of her past into a deep spiritual richness.

Her passion is unstoppable now, as she feeds the 'Homeless' of Southeast Queensland with heart, belief and some good old Aussie tucker, that invites the 'Homeless' to smile, to open up, to share, to solve, as they joyfully feed their undernourished bodies. So far, her data suggests, she and her devoted team have fed 20000 such marginalized citizens so far. For many of them, Margarita has become their Mother Teresa.

Her work appears to be endless with the arrival of new persons into Central Brisbane streets at an alarming rate.
In her words, we all are suffering a crisis.

This is why, she will more than appreciate your donation. It helps.
However, more than that she actually wants the currency of your personal energy and time. She wants you to call her and volunteer ... work with her ... even if just for an hour a week. She wants businesses large and small, to offer their goods and actively get involved as part of the solution. She seeks to educate the ignorant ... to help humble people like you and I to understand that all things are impermanent and that 'the people of the street' are really your brother or your sister in disguise. No-one is immune from the possibility of this desolate, isolating, homeless outcome.

Prepare yourself for one heck of a ride dear listeners, and as you approach the end of this podcast make sure your phone is handy, because you will want to call or text the mobile number of this 'Angel of the Street' ...

  • As we journey towards becoming a more loving human being, every story offers a new consideration. This episode with International Krav Maga expert, Tim Alexander, will be forever remembered for giving us the notion that Love and Aggression not only can co-exist, but in fact may be blood relatives! If we are to inspire greater peace across the human race, Tim would suggest that without the ability to defend and assert, your capacity to love may even be rendered useless.

You may have heard the term 'tough love'. Think of parents who must say 'No' to their child when the pressure is on to give them what they want. The assertion is 'tough'. The reason behind a parent's strong stance is protection, security and love of their child.
What about the times when the same child sees close friends being bullied in the playground?

Do they love their comrade enough to take a stance against the oppressor?

The assertive stance reflects the loving connection between two friends.

How many times does an injustice call for a voice?

Does our want to inspire a loving spirit demand that we speak the uncommon truth?

The paradox! Love and Assertion. Love and Aggression. Love and Violence. All part of the same family.

This is the message of Tim Alexander, a strong Christian man, who teaches a potent self-defence system called Krav Maga. Developed for the Israel Defense Forces, it is derived from a combination of techniques used in Aikido, Judo, Karate, Boxing, and Wrestling. Tim is one of the world elite instructors. He is so accomplished that his coaching skill is called upon by Law Enforcement, Tactical Shooting, and the Military. As an Expert Level 4 instructor, he is the only person in the Southern Hemisphere with that rank. He is amongst the global best.

But it is as a man of peace that Tim explains how the confidence to protect oneself against angry or threatening foes means a greater capacity to meet all situations with a calm, assured and strong mind. It diminishes the need to flee. It reduces the need to fight, but if necessary, it also enhances one's capacity to assert, to aggress with strength, and consequently resolve and facilitate solution.

For the first time in 60 episodes of A Journey With Bernie...and Chip, Love and Aggression have found unity.

    Be prepared to be intrigued.

  • It's not very often that you meet AN ANGEL OF JOY. We're talking of someone who may be divinely blessed. One thing is certain. Louise Bennet is a rare human being. As you listen to this episode, you will find it hard to believe how this single mother of the gorgeous 4-year-old Evie could be so joyous, so sustainably happy and so accepting of the vagrancies of life. Louise Bennet is the fullness of life personified, and it is not a brave fascade. It is her discovery ... her mindful and purposeful response to sexual trauma between the age of 11 and 13, the demise of a marriage, the 'consequential' diagnosis of breast cancer and the recent surgical loss of her right breast. We say 'consequential' because Louise is adamant that THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE. Not only does she strongly advocate the book ... The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma: van der Kolk M.D., Bessel: 9780143127741: Amazon.com: Books ... she knows from personal experience that hanging onto past traumas has manifested itself in cancerous ways. What's more, she is happy about it!! With full belief that other chapters of her life are ahead, Louise feels blessed that her current situation has embedded a lifestyle that fosters inner joy, greater confidence, and a powerful connection with what Louise calls 'Source'. Others might call it Spirit, God, Essence, Force etc. To Louise it doesn't matter what one calls it, the challenge for all of our lives is to be 'the spirit' that lives inside each and every one of us. Having discovered this pathway, it seems difficult for Louise to consider anything else as more important, other than becoming the most loving human being she can possible be and to be that love as mother to Evie. But the most remarkable outcome of all is that Louise is succeeding in her mission. Just listen to this podcast ... watch the excerpts and educational segments on YouTube ... and you too will be in awe of this ANGEL OF JOY.

  • I travelled to Kathmandu, Nepal last December to trek the incredible Langtang Valley. If you have ever seen the Netflix documentary called 'AFTERSHOCK', you would know this region's incredible story during and following the Earthquakes of 2015 ... Watch Aftershock: Everest and the Nepal Earthquake | Netflix Official Site. I also had another mission ... to participate for the third time in the 10-day silent meditation retreat known globally as VIPASSANA ... Vipassana Meditation (dhamma.org). Supposedly, it is the process used by Siddhartha Gautama to find 'enlightenment' and consequently become the spiritual leader we all know as 'Buddha'. Two hundred participants wondered as I did. Would the ambience and the potency of this VIPASSANA programme be different than other global centers, given that the programme was being delivered in the birth country of 'Lord Buddha' himself. We were not disappointed. The experience was, if you will excuse the pun ... mind-freeing. For Brittany Rojas from Miami, Florida, a Flight Attendant with American Airlines Business Class Operations, it was transformational. This podcast explains how.

If there is one thing that A JOURNEY WITH BERNIE ... and CHIP has come to know in its first 50 plus episodes is that life seems to delight in inflicting a traumatic challenge upon all at some stage of their years on this Earth. In Brittany's case, life has possibly been unfair. It has overworked this young lady beyond reason. Her story will be deemed as shocking by some but listen intently and you will quickly move past the tears to periods of joy and celebration, as you hear of Brittany's courage, her fight and her ardent commitment to maximise her life regardless of past chaos. Prepare for an extraordinary story right up there with our very very best. You will probably cry with Brittany, but you will also feel her hope. You will enjoy her too. Brittany is full of life and has some strong advices for everyone, including our politicians and national leaders. It makes sense too! The Camino of Spain has been a contributor to Brittany's redemption and she thinks it should be a prepatory ground for true leadership. You will learn how this VIPASSANA experience is already reshaping her view of her life. She is now seeing that the potent pain of her life to date is just part of her journey ... nothing more ... nothing less. She is thankful for the notion of IMPERMANENCE so crucial to being able to release herself from suffering and being grateful for her many gifts. Be prepared to be inspired. Be prepared to shed a tear. Be prepared to be awakened for this next hour will certainly enrich your life.
