  • In this episode, we explore why reading aloud is the first answer for any disability, difference, resistance, struggle, overwhelm or doubt in your homeschool.

    Mindset Moment

Let’s reframe the "learn to read, read to learn" adage.

    Training + Tools

We explore 6 definitions to answer the question, “What is language?”We answer why reading aloud is the first answer to various learning or behavioral challenges in homeschooling. We dig into neurodiversity noting some (not all) of the struggles with learning differences and how to use the child’s strengths associated with their learning difference to access and approach reading aloud. Learning differences discussed: autism, non-verbal, adhd, dyslexia, hearing-impaired.

Reading aloud is the first answer to homeschooling challenges because it is a low-demand approach for any struggle you and your children are experiencing in a particular season because it is relational. Reading aloud together builds (or repairs) relationships by facilitating understanding of not only the content, but one another.

On a hard day. Drop the drainers, pick up a book and read aloud together.

  • Welcome to the 90-Minute School Day podcast, where we embrace a natural approach to learning!

I'm Kelly Edwards, and I'm thrilled to have you join me on this exciting journey where we walk together, in community, helping to guide one another across the rough patches, unexpected wash-outs and admire the beauty and wonder along the way.

As a foster-adoptive mama raising three neurodivergent girls with my husband in the foothills of WV, I'm on a mission to share the wonders of natural learning and it’s meaningful connections with the world.

Gone are the days of the traditional school system! Instead, we've chosen to live and learn at home, alongside our kids, fostering a community of out-of-the-box thinkers who are both confident and compassionate. If you're tired of the conventional or school-at-home approach and seek a more enriching path, this podcast is for you.

Together, we'll embark on a deschooling journey, helping you to recognize and break free from old mindsets first. Next, how to prepare nurturing learning environments and support opportunities that present themselves. We’ll also talk through healthy relational, emotional and time boundaries to plan your daily rhythm. Don't worry, it won't consume your entire day – all you need is 90 minutes or less for a world-class education!

Here at the 90-Minute School Day, we prioritize relationship-centered learning. No pretense, just genuine experiences. We'll celebrate the bright moments, but also address the challenges and shadows that come with homeschooling. Real talk is essential, and we'll tackle it with storytelling, insights from neuroscience, key learnings, and a flexible mindset.

So, let's laugh, linger, repair and love together as we navigate the ups and downs of homeschooling. Join me on this adventure, and together, we'll raise curious, creative, and caring individuals.

School's out, and natural learning is in!
