Here we are - the end of 2018 and wrapping up Season Three is upon us. Progress towards reaching the magic 100 episodes is slow, but steady. Sally reflects on the season and there is a special bonus chat about seasonal creativity with Anna.
-
Sally and Anna discuss how they learn new creative skills.
What are some new skills that you’ve been learning? Here is some of Sally’s weaving (yay!) and crochet (nay!).
Don’t forget to check out Sally’s class on Skillshare!

Sally and Alyssa talk all things supplies and their workspaces.
My desk has been amazingly tidy at various points throughout this month and it is has been piled high with the creative projects at other points. As I’ve been editing this episode, I’ve realised that it is currently in a piled high phase, so it is embarrassing to have to share a photo of it in this state. In this photo, you’ll be able to see that I’ve been working on family Christmas t-shirts and a Santa Sack for the baby. There are a lot of other little bits of pieces for various other projects. Plus some of that clutter that gets dumped there as we come in and out of the front door each day.
You might also be able to spot favourite, favourite notebooks.
Alyssa loves Zebra Mildliner pens.
Be sure to share your creative workspace in the comments!

Sally talks all things self care for creatives and challenges you to ask yourself the following questions when considering you own self-care routines:
Have you eaten?
Have you drunk enough water?
Have you exercised?
Have you slept enough?
Have you tidied?
Have you socialised?
Have you celebrated?
-
In this episode, Sally and Brooklyn talk about all of the many things they wish they knew how to do.
Plus, Brooklyn shares a great Creative Soapbox choice.
-
Sally and Alyssa talk about trying new creative things that they have tried - the good and the bad - and why they feel it is important to try new things in the pursuit of creativity.
-
Brooklyn and Sally chat about how they deal with distractions.
Sally has just finished reading Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In and it is amazing.
Our favourite phrase this episode: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by your mental load?
Do you use Google Calendar? Do you think anyone ever wished they spent more looking at Instagram on their death bed? (I love this Tracey Ullman sketch about it!)
-
Anna wishes she was better at drawing things that look exactly like the thing they are meant to be.
Dancing is something that Sally wishes she was better at. Coordination is not exactly her strong point now as an adult.
Anna has tried pottery and it wasn’t for her. Elise Blaha Cripe (who was on the show back in Episode 50) went through a pottery phase and made it look totally doable.
Sally’s nemesis is crochet. This is the daisy pattern blanket that Sally wants to be able to make, but there is a big gap between her level of skill and the skill needed to make this blanket!

In this episode, Sally and Lauren talk all things social media - the things they do, the things they don’t and all of their favourite hints and tips.

Leanne would love to have an exhibit at the National Gallery. We have an amazing branch of it here in Victoria - the NGV.
She would also like to work with Australian author Mem Fox. (Her book Possum Magic is one of my favourites!)
Sally would love to collaborate with Andy Griffiths who writes the funniest stories for Middle Grade readers. (Plus, get your copy of Double Felix and I’ll send you a free bookplate for it!)
Leanne thinks Twig & Olive Photography is amazing and Ashlee Gadd of Coffee and Crumbs takes beautiful photos too.
Joy Cho of Oh Joy! is one of Sally’s all time favourites. Do you think she should start doing “outfit of the day'“ Joy style? Also Kelly Mindell of Studio DIY is just gorgeous.
Have to tried Demeter scents? Would you like to smell like grass? Kitten fur? Wet garden?
Thankyou are doing some amazing things too and their work is world changing.
Have you come across Samantha Gash or Alexandra Hemingsley? Do you find exercise helps you in your creative work?
Also - if the BBC wants to work with Sally on anything, they should definitely get in touch.
-
Sally and Anna talk about their memories of creativity in their childhood.
Anna loved the untapped potential of journals. Do you have a favourite notebook or journal now? Sally has become particularly particular about her favourites. (These Paperchase ones are her fave - good line size and paper quality combined!)
Sally loved the Useful Box that her mother put together inspired by the television show ‘Play School’. Have you seen it? Here is a clip of Australian comedians reminiscing about the Useful Box!
Do you think working with your hands makes a difference to how well you can remember something? Do you think just working creativity using technology will have an impact on the creativity of children growing up now?

Sally chats with Lauren about the best and the worst parts of living a creative life.
Some notes from this episode:
Lauren had a big summer when Get Messy met Creative Bug.
Sally fumbles through the idea of starting your day by ‘eating the frog’. Read more about the concept over on The Art of Simple.
Make sure you check out this episode of Lauren’s podcast How She Creates - Creative Reflections to hear more of her reflections on her first year of working for herself.

Welcome to Season Three of 100 Creatives! I’m so glad you’re with us.
Notes from today’s episode:
We have new theme music. Isn’t it amazing? Thank you Carmilo! (I seriously can’t believe it took less than four days and just under $14 for me to get original theme music for the show. I should have done it ages ago!)
Our theme for this season is ‘Curiosity about Creativity’ which is really just an excuse for me to continue doing what I love doing best: being nosy and getting to ask creative folks loads and loads of questions!
There are going to be two mini episodes a week this season and we will be diving deep into different topics around creativity in each one.
While you’re waiting for Episode 64 to drop, why not learn more about about amazing co-hosts? And don’t forget to follow the show @100.creatives so you don’t miss a thing!

How did you get on with your 100 Day Project this year? I have finally gotten around to reflecting upon my own project this year - the Positives, the Minuses and the Interesting parts!
You can print yourself a PMI chart by clicking here (In the episode, I say that it comes from Project Zero, but upon further investigation, this may not be strictly accurate. It is, regardless, an excellent graphic organiser and way to reflect on your work!)
My #100daysofsallysendsart postcards will be available until July 31 and then I'll be making a donation to Radio Lollipop.
-
In today's episode, I'm taking you through the successes and challenges of my project, as well as the financials of my fundraising efforts so far ($19, but I'm aiming for three digits!) and the first charity (Radio Lollipop) I have chosen to donate to.
Shout out to the awesome Madeleine Bowerman who bought me a cup of coffee this week (and a postcard! Go Madeleine!) and thank you to everyone else who has already purchased their #100daysofsallysendsart piece.
-
In today's episode, I'm taking you through the 'Compass Points' Visible Thinking Routine from Harvard's Project Zero as a way of reflecting on your project thus far and planning for the future.
You can learn more about this routine and many others by visiting their website.
Also, I mentioned that I wanted to talk more about the charity that I've chosen to donate to at the end of the project. For the past sixteen days I've been really thinking about which Australian charity would be a good fit and, just this morning, I think I've chosen.
Stay tuned and I promise next show I'll talk about which one I've chosen and why!
Next episode, I'll also update you with the financials of my project - how much has gone on postage so far and how much is already ready to be donated.
I got my amazing foil mailers from ebay. I'm in love with them!
Shout out to the awesome Cindy Wallach who bought me a cup of coffee this week and thank you to everyone who has already purchased their #100daysofsallysendsart piece.

So I managed to get eleven minutes away from the baby to record a quick mini episode to celebrate the start of the 100 Day Project for 2018. The project kicks off on April 3. Can you believe it has already been a year since I started the 100 Creatives podcast?
You can learn more about the project at https://www.the100dayproject.org/
Don't forget to follow along with my project this year - #100daysofsallysendsart where I'm sending 100 abstract art postcards around the world. I'm super excited about this project as I've wanted to be a better painter for a long time and I really love sending mail!
You can follow Elle Luna on Instagram @elleluna and see everyone's work on the project using the hashtag #the100dayproject. You can also tag us on Instagram @100.creatives for the chance to see your work featured on our feed. Good luck and happy creating everyone!

I have wanted to record this episode ever since I finished Manoush Zomorodi's Bored and Brilliant: How Spacing Out Can Unlock Your Most Productive and Creative Self. I loved it so much that I'm giving away a copy of it to one of our newsletter subscribers.
In summary: Back in 2015, Note to Self podcast host Manoush wondered if being connected to technology with a constant stream of entertainment and information was making our lives better or worse. She noticed that we're never bored anymore and wondered what is that lack of boredom doing to us?
I had heard about this book a while ago, but had to wait until the Library had it available. I read it at the beginning of Feb and found that it really aligned with my main goal for 2018 - to get off my phone and technology and be okay with being bored (with the aim of then being more creative). I'm still yet to hear of someone lying on their death bed who wished they spent more of their life on Instagram.
Anyway, I've been working towards this goal since January 1 this year and these are some of the things that I have found have helped me to make some progress in this area:
Reading Bored and Brilliant and implementing some of the strategies, including observing my behaviour, devices away when in transit, deleting the app that sucks most of your time and observing something else. Putting my most tempting apps in harder to reach places. My home screen is now not home to any social media, photo editing apps, etc. They are on another screen and in folders so they are more inconvenient to get to.Try signing out of your favourite time wasting apps. It is super annoying to have to sign back in every time and this is a good way to break a mindless habit.Read this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/13/well/phone-cellphone-addiction-time.html It has some great ways to break up with your phone.
Try the Moment App. I found it super eye opening to learn how much time was really spent staring at my phone.
Try the Flipd App. It blocks you from accessing certain features on your phone for preset periods of time. (I'm trying it today for the first time, but I've been impressed by it thus dar.)
Engage the strategy of 'monitoring' as suggested by Gretchen Rubin. I've been tracking my progress towards my goal in my 'commonplace' book. (Here is Brandi Kincaid's commonplace book which is just too beautiful.) . I've also got my 'Get "Stuff" Done' notebook - pictured underneath - which is a great way of tracking progress.
Elise Blaha Cripe has a great goal tracker to help with #7. This is my progress:
And don't forget to sign up to the 100 Creatives newsletter to find out how you can win an Amazon Voucher to buy yourself a copy of Bored and Brilliant or one of two handlettered 'Just Start' pieces by Sarah Letters made especially for the show!

Nicole recommends you read Shauna Niequist's book Present Over Perfect: Leaving Behind Frantic for a Simpler, More Soulful Way of Living (and have a listen to The Ben and Ashely I Almost Famous Podcast if you are even remotely into The Bachelor!)
Sally's Soapbox selection is John August's new podcast, Launch. If you've every thought about writing a book, you'll love this show (and of course, The Bestseller Experiment is another must listen to for writers!)
Nicole's advice: Don't be afraid to work for free. This is how you gain experience and will help you to get paid work down the track. Build a network of people in your industry. Their help, advice and connections can be invaluable. Build your own village.
You can learn more about Nicole's work on Instagram (@planmyweddingplease), on Facebook (www.facebook.com/planmyweddingplease), on her website (www.planmyweddingplease.com) and by visiting her Etsy Shop (www.etsy.com/shop/planmyweddingplease)
