  • What if the cards are stacked against you?

    because life is challenging

and more often than not the odds are against us

So when it does get tough how do you manage those tricky times?

Back when I played there would be times that I would thrive against adveristy

and other times when I would find it difficult

the biggest difference in these scenarios was that internal belief

Which is something I have dug deep on since i've finished playing

come and join me today as I share a story from a memorable game later on in my career

  • Inside the mind of the one that goes inside the athlete’s mind

I used to think sports psychology was woowoo

I tried it once for a minute and wrote it off

Yet there is a reason why many professional sports now have their own highly skilled staff looking after their players mental well being

Because without it then you will never see a peak physical performance

And on today’s episode of Always Another Game Podcast I have the pleasure of talking to Manchester Storm Ice Hockey Club’s Well Being Consultant Liz Stewart

I broke a few of my own rules here today because Liz didn’t grow up with a sporting story

Yet she is involved in one of my core values of this podcast and that is supporting and looking after the well being on not just Ice Hockey Players but athletes

We discuss today the importance of the players having someone they trust they can talk to

And how priceless it is for a coach and organisation to have a person involved in your team getting the best out of your players

You know those people that would go to war for you and expect nothing in return

And their belief in you drives you forward into things you once though was impossible

Because on today’s Shaun Short episode we discuss the influence that certain people have in our lives

As many times an athlete has mentioned a Coach or Sensi that has made an incredible impact on their career and life

And I felt it would be great to dig a little deeper into this topic

Because sometimes you may not even know you had someone until you lost them

  • “Injuries have shaped how I approach my career today”

These are the exact words of England Hockey Strength and Conditioning Coach and former Professional Ice Hockey player Rupert Quiney

From being inspired by his dad to play

Rupert has to over come all odds to make it pro

Growing up around a club that at the time was not playing at the highest level would seem too far fetched for a young athlete to stand out

    Yet this didn’t deter Rupert

But due to a series of serious injuries he was forced to re think about what direction his career was going in

And now he gets to help young athletes avoid going through the pain and struggle he did

Which you can feel the passion he has for doing this in the episode today

  • I’ve never been a numbers guy…

The thought of any pressurised maths sends me into a bigger freeze state than Walt Disney

And many will argue and say that I need to get a handle on this

But in a team sport it doesn't matter if one player has scored 5 goals if you lose 8-5

You need the players who block shots, support you when you're down and bring the energy for the whole team just by how they show up

You see there are so many other ways to thrive away from numbers

Whether that is in your parenting

    Personal Development

    And

    Business

And I share my thoughts on this powerful Shaun Short episode on the Always Another Game Podcast today
