I was invited to appear on the podcast, This Is Actually Happening, about four years ago. It was a breakthrough for me because it exposed my podcast to many thousands more listeners than I had back then.
The interview did well in bringing my family's tragedy out so people could hear and understand what happened. I wanted families to know what happened to us could happen to anyone's child. And I wanted them to know the kinds of warning signs we knew nothing about in 2005 when Kristin was murdered.
Thanks to Whit Missildine and his staff at This Is Actually Happening for bringing me to their show. The boost I received from this appearance would have taken me years to achieve.

This is part two of two parts with Kayleigh.
Kayleigh was in a relationship for 15 years. In fact, it ended only weeks ago.
She wanted to bring us her story as soon as she could. And it is worth your time and attention.
Her upbringing included abuse from her mother and father. She also had abusive relationships in her dating years. She thought she had found the right guy when she met Jesse. To her, he was the equivalent of a big cuddly teddy bear. So she fell for him completely.
In the beginning, they spent every waking hour together. Everything seemed just perfect. But once he knew he had her, things changed rapidly.
Once again, you might want to take notes while listening to this one. Because you will find red flags throughout.
Stories like this should be considered practical exercises in what can and does happen all over the world. Abusers know how to put on the mask of nice people so they can gain control. When everything seems just about right, they become angry controllers that we hear about way too often on this podcast.
Today, Kayleigh is a survivor, who is still getting used to having her freedom back. She is a much happier person, and she encourages those who are being victimized by abusers to figure out how to break free and do it. See information below and find your freedom!

Brenda's story has many twists and turns.
You will hear the insidious ways her abuser would not give up when she expressed no further interest in him. He was going to maintain control over her no matter what. Wrestling control over her life was all but impossible.

This episode talks about a new book entitled, "But He Said He Loved Me."
Anna Astwood has been a survivor guest on WHEN DATING HURTS twice.
During her first interview, she said she started a book two decades ago, but put it away, and she did not finish it
When she returned for her second interview in December 2025, she mentioned her book again. She was urged to pick up the book and bring it to a close. Then publish it.
Well, she did.
Here is what Amazon has to say about Anna's book:
"But He Said He Loved Me"is a powerful and unflinching memoir about first love, manipulation, survival, and the long road back to oneself.
At 15, Anna believe she had found the kind of love every teenage girl hopes for. But what began as an intense romance, slowly transformed itself into a relationship marked by control, threats, and escalating violence.
Like many victims of abuse, she didn't leave – not because she was weak, but because she had been slowly conditioned to stay.
"But He Said He Loved Me" is more than a memoir. It is a lifeline for survivors, a call to awareness for parents and educators, and a powerful reminder that love is not supposed to hurt.

Please proceed with caution. This episode may be highly triggering for survivors of abuse and trauma. Listener discretion is strongly advised.
This is the second part of a two-part story with Erin.
We interviewed Erin about three years ago, and her story has remained on our minds ever since. So, we're bringing it back to you.
Erin was taken advantage of while she was suffering through a highly sensitive passage in her life. Her mother had just passed away.
Charlie presented himself as the right answer at the right time.
Like many victims, she was an innocent, generous person. The kind of target predators are looking to lure straight into problematic relationships. She became easy prey.
The warning signs of potential danger were there, but Erin didn’t interpret them. You will learn plenty from this powerful episode. You will see how difficult it is to break from an accomplished abuser. You need to hear Erin's story.
Charlie's control over Erin goes off the charts. His demands are ridiculous, but her generous nature forces her to comply with his every request.
Be sure you share this WHEN DATING HURTS episode with someone who's dating. Only through education can we help others to see what is plain sight.

Karan told me she spent the past several months healing from a deeply harmful relational experience.
She understands how stories like hers bring both awareness and healing, and so she wanted to share with us.
What makes her story quite so unique?
She is a therapist, which gives her a unique dual perspective. As she states: "both understanding relational dynamics (clinically), and living through the reality of them (personally)."
The complications she had to solve will find many of us listening to her story more than a few times.
Karan's desire is to take such a painful experience and use it to help others feel less alone, more informed, and more empowered to trust themselves.
This was precisely what I was hoping she would do and she did this perfectly.
Keywords & Themes: Trauma bonding, divorce, overcoming domestic abuse, single parent family struggles, women’s empowerment, and resilience.

This is part two, the final episode of a two-part story with Julia.
The power in this narrative comes from the fact that our survivor, Julia, is a smart person from a good family living in Canada. If she could be coercively controlled, anyone could.
She was raised to respect and be helpful to people, and she wanted to trust that everyone was basically good. It was a wonderful outlook on life until a guy named Damon came along.
Damon knew how to put on the mask of a thoughtful, generous guy. A guy who had been wronged several times before by women. His presence completely mesmerized Julia right from their first phone call.
As you are listening to this story, keep track of the warning signs that Julia either missed or ignored. There are many.
Besides a full display of deception, mirroring, pocketing, manipulation, cohesive, control, future faking, gaslighting, financial abuse, and more, we also hear about the ways he isolated her. There are plenty of lessons to be learned.
In listening to this story, we ask ourselves what is going on in Julia's mind. When will she feel she has experienced enough to say she was done with this abusive man?
Keep in mind, this is a survivor story. So, no matter how bad it gets, it is good to know she will eventually get out.
Keywords & Themes: Trauma bonding, overcoming domestic abuse, single parent family struggles, Louisiana true story, healing from childhood trauma, women’s empowerment memoir, resilience stories 2026.

Gaslighting - with examples.
This is a blend of survivor-centered education, psychology, and clear red-flag guidance. And it's all grounded in research.
We call this: Gaslighting: How it Sounds, Works, and Steals Your Reality.
This is not an interview with a survivor. It is not red flags wrapped into a story. It is the red flags you need to know so you will never be fooled by someone trying to gaslight you in a relationship.
It is a fairly short episode, so it is easily heard in one sitting. And so you can hear it again and again.
You might want to take notes. This information can save someone's life.
