  • I received a podcast review that basically said because a guest talked about chronic inflammation it was a "MAHA podcast." So I decided to go straight to one of the top inflammation researchers in the world and ask him directly: is chronic inflammation actually real, or is it pseudoscience? My guest is Dr. David Furman, the Director of Stanford Medicine's 1000 Immunomes Project (the largest longitudinal study on aging and the immune system in the world) and an Associate Professor at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, and his answer might surprise you. We play a game of Myth or Fact and bust some of the biggest inflammation claims all over the internet, from gluten and dairy to seed oils, and microplastics. We also get into how to actually test whether you're inflamed, the surprising link between chronic stress, depression, and your immune system, why your coffee habit might be doing you a favor, and exactly what to do about all of it if you have no money to spend.🎧 What you’ll learn:• What the best anti-inflammatory tools and habits are• Why 80% of people over 40 are inflamed• The surprising foods that drive inflammation• The inflammation-stress and inflammation-depression connection• One free thing you can do tonight to start lowering inflammation immediatelyStudies mentioned in this episode:• iAge / Thousand Immunomes Project (inflammatory aging clock, CXCL9 biomarker): Nature Aging paper via PMC / PubMed• Chronic inflammation in the etiology of disease across the life span (Nature Medicine, 2019 — the paper linking inflammaging to major diseases)• NLRC4 inflammasome / caffeine study (why coffee drinkers had less inflammation): Nature Medicine, 2017• Chronic stress / caregiver glucocorticoid resistance (the cancer-caregiver study): Miller, Chen & Cole, PNAS 2012• 2014 depression inflammation study: Mostafavi et al., Molecular Psychiatry 2014• Kitavans tribe free from stroke and heart disease study: PubMed / PubMedFor more from Dr. David Furman:• https://davidfurman.com/ • https://www.buckinstitute.org/ • https://med.stanford.edu/profiles/david-furman Ready to uplevel every part of your life? •  Women have been told how we have to show up at work, in our relationships, in our families, in society at large, forever. And it turns out it's costing us way more than we thought. It's making us sick.

My guest today, Sara Hirsh Bordo, is a 15-time award-winning documentary filmmaker and somebody who was hit with melanoma, breast tumors, Hashimoto's, and Epstein-Barr all at once. Instead of just treating it, she investigated it. She funded her own research of 1,000 women, the first-ever study on the relationship between empowerment and autoimmune conditions, and what she found was absolutely groundbreaking. Her study was endorsed by a former US surgeon general, and it's an absolute paradigm shift in how we think about autoimmune conditions. Sarah has since completely healed, and we’re going to talk about exactly what she did in this episode.

    🎧 What you’ll learn:

    • The shocking link between being a "good girl" and autoimmune disease

    • Why eldest and only daughters are disproportionately affected

    • The science of epigenetics and what it means for your health today

    • The biological chain reaction that connects people-pleasing to disease

  • I’m all about people being able to do whatever they want with their bodies and their faces, and I think that the hot girl era is coming to an end. I think that we're entering our ugly girl era, and there's some really convincing science as to why this is about to happen.

Today, we get into the 3 factors that led us to this tipping point, what we're going to consider beautiful next as a society, and what you can do with all of this so you can feel as good as possible in your face, your skin, and your body.

    🎧 What you’ll learn:

    • Why the "hot girl era" is ending

    • The sneaky way social media has made beauty feel like a full-time job

    • How scarcity secretly drives what we find attractive (and why that's shifting)

    • Why making "perfection" available to everyone actually devalues it

    • What AI has to do with the rise of imperfection as a status symbol

    • How to stop playing a beauty game that keeps moving the goalposts

    • Why your "flaws" might soon be your most valuable features

    • A surprisingly liberating way to think about your body, your face, and how you show up in the world

  • I’ve always wondered how specifically having good relationships can decrease our likelihood of cancer or having a heart attack, and improve our immune systems and brain health. Well, I asked a Stanford Neuroscientist and his answers are absolutely fascinating.

Dr. Ben Rein is an award-winning neuroscientist and lecturer at Stanford, and the author of the phenomenal new book, Why Brains Need Friends. We are talking about why hanging out with your friends floods your brain with a chemical cocktail that is basically a microdose of MDMA, why being married beats chemotherapy as the number one predictor of surviving cancer, why Botox and Tylenol and Advil are making it harder to make friends, yes, really, and why we should all probably get dogs and get our parents to get dogs if we want them to live a long time.

You're going to come away with a ton of action steps to not only live longer and be healthier, but also just feel better every single day.

    🎧 What you’ll learn:

    • How to find your ideal "social dose"

    • Introvert or extrovert: You might be wrong about yourself

    • How to audit your social life

    • The Botox friendship problem

    • The neuroscience behind social anxiety (why you dread going out)

    • What your pet is doing to your brain

    • The hidden social side effects of Tylenol and Advil

  • The skincare advice that we see on social media is often not the skincare advice that's going to help our skin the most. In fact, it's often the opposite. The stuff that goes viral that we're like, "Wait, this is everywhere. Should I try this?" can cause us to waste our money and sometimes wreck our skin.

So today, celebrity dermatologist Dr. Sam Ellis joins me to rank skincare advice from the internet (from superior advice to advice you should ignore). Dr. Samantha Ellis is a board-certified dermatologist who has hundreds of thousands of followers online and is basically impossible to get into to see in real life, but today we get to pick her brain for free.

    🎧 What you’ll learn:

    • The morning skincare step most people get wrong

    • What salmon sperm, beef tallow, and castor oil can and can't do for your skin

    • Whether your pillowcase, face tape, or silk sheets are actually doing anything

    • The "Holy Trinity" of skincare that covers 98% of your anti-aging bases

    • Three diet changes that genuinely support your skin backed by science

  •  Women were left out of medical, nutrition, and exercise research for 16 years. • The truth about lifting heavy

  • When I was in the absolute worst time in my life, I got out of it by learning a tool that I credit for getting everything I ever wanted—my career, my friendships, my house.  It came from my darkest moments, when I was agoraphobic—I’ve told bits and pieces of that story before, but I've gained so many new listeners since then, and I also haven’t shared in detail how it ended up having this incredibly positive impact on my life, how I learned something simple and easy that you can do to get what you want in all areas of your life too. That’s what I’ll be sharing with you today.

  •  You've probably heard a million different time management strategies by now, but may still feel busy, exhausted, and like you don’t have time to do the things you truly love. Today, we are going to change that. I surveyed thousands of Liz Moody podcast listeners and found there are four specific time hurdles all of us run into.

We're going to talk about exactly how to overcome those hurdles with pragmatic, actionable steps that work. And, here's the catch, we are not talking about time management to get more done. We are talking about time management to create a life that’s filled with joy and fun.

My expert guest is Laura Vanderkam. She is a time management researcher who has studied thousands of people's real time logs, a bestselling author of multiple books, a business owner, mother of 5 kids, and she also sings in a choir every week. She has figured out how to use every hour intentionally, and she’s going to help you do the same.

    🎧 What you’ll learn:

    • The reason time management strategies fail

    • The surprising truth about how long your chores, work, and obligations actually take

    • How to use your evenings and weekends like a mini vacation—without going anywhere

    • A simple weekly planning method that cuts decision fatigue and kills the Sunday scaries

    • Why "three times a week" is enough to build a real habit

    • Why "flexible" hobbies never happen—what to do instead
