  • This week on The Good Glow podcast I speak to Roseanna Ruane. Roseanna and her daughter Saoirse captured the nation's heart when they appeared on The Late Late Toy Show this year.

After being diagnosed with cancer when she was just 7 years old, Saoirse and her family have been on a very difficult journey over the past year. Not only having to endure 9 months of chemotherapy, Saoirse had to have her leg amputated which was a devastating blow for them all.

It's still very raw, but today Roseanna bravely tells me about what they have been through. She shares her story too, things about her life that she's never discussed publicly before. She tells me her husband Ollie was diagnosed with cancer when he was 30 and how they tried for years to conceive their second daughter Farrah Rose who is turning 2 in January.

Caner didn't take Saoirse's love of life and her beautiful personality. Roseanna tells me how much of a boost the Toy Show gave them, why they decided to give so much of the money raised for Saoirse back to the charities that helped them and how after a very painful year that music has found its way back into their lives.

  • As we all know, 2020 was a year like no other so I wanted to put together a sort of ‘look back' at the year gone by.I learnt so much from all of the guests I had the honour to chat to, throughout the year.I didn’t include every conversation from 2020 here but I’m so thankful to each and every one of my guests for giving their time so generously. We covered so much in the conversations from realising what really matters in life, the healing power of nature, believing change can happen, letting go of fear, the benefit of talking things out, being a good listener, overcoming obstacles, waking up, asking questions, being kind, having self-worth, embracing healthy habits, learning lessons, being thankful and as always...being real.A special mention for my bestie Siobhan who helped me with this and for Shane in Collaborative Studios for putting it all together for me.And thanks to you for all your support since this podcast started in October 2019, it really means the world to me.https://www.readytobereal.com/Leanne Moore Behan 1.10Baz Ashmawy 2.27Dermot Whelan 3.50Seán Boylan 6.06Nadine Reid 7.10Paul Byrom 8.14Kathryn Thomas 9.27Hector Ó hEochagáin 10.42Janet Devlin 11.11 Michael Healy-Rae 12.11Jamie and Georgie Crawford 12.56June Burke 14.01Rosanna Davison 14.56Brian Dowling and Arthur Gourounlian 15.51Joanne O'Riordan 17.13Professor Luke O'Neill 18.22Muireann O'Connell 19.48Brian Pennie 20.34Don O'Neill 21.38Tommy Tiernan 22.53Kathie Stritch 24.13

  • Julie Ledwidge has an amazing story of inner strength, the importance of checking in with yourself and a lesson for us all on how looking out for a loved one could their life.
Today, she tells me about being diagnosed with sepsis just days after having her first baby Max. She brought Max home from hospital on Christmas week and was looking forward to a cozy Christmas at home, but days later her mum was alarmed after finding her shaking uncontrollably in her bed. They rushed her back to hospital and she was diagnosed with sepsis. The doctors told them because they acted so fast that they had saved her life. Today Julie speaks to me about her experience. She is warm, so funny and brutally honest about the impact it's had on her. It's so hard to tell your story and put yourself out there but Julie's intention is to make people aware of the signs of sepsis so maybe one day you could save a life.

  • Dermot Whelan is someone I've always had huge admiration for.
He's a super funny guy and is part of one of the longest standing radio duos Dermot and Dave on Today FM.
Dermot speaks to me today about meditation and how it's added so much to his life. In his early 30s he felt like he was getting signs to re-evaluate. He had a panic attack at the side of the road and one night after a few too many he fell down a flight of stairs in a karaoke bar. That night everything changed and he hasn't looked back.
Today, Dermot speaks to me about how to address the negative voice in your head, how you can make simple small changes that could actually change your life and he also shows us how we can meditate and do something for ourselves everyday in just 16 seconds.
Life is busy right now, 2020 has been really hard on us all and I think this podcast has come at a really important time
