There is a lot of information available about dealing with menopause - some of it confusing and some of it contentious.
In this episode, we invited Menopause expert, Dr Wendy Sweet, back onto our show to talk more specifically about exercise and menopause - what happens to our bodies when we exercise during menopause and what type of exercise should we be aiming to sustain?
Dr Wendy Sweet is the founder of “My Menopause Transformation,” where she works with women globally to support them through the menopause transition.
Wendy is a former registered nurse and was one of the early drivers of personalised training within the fitness industry. She went on to do her Masters in Lifestyle Behaviour and a Ph.D. in nutrition and healthy aging.
As part of her Menopause Transformation programme, Wendy has developed a range of personalised programmes for women going through perimenopause and menopause – acknowledging that every woman is different and will approach these years with different health states and different levels of knowledge about what their bodies are going through and the changes they can make to make life easier.

How is your metabolic health, are you worried about diabetes? Are you in the pre-diabetic camp? Are you too scared to find out?
In our podcast with Dr. Paul Kolodzik we explore the early warning signs of pre-diabetes and discuss that there are many people out there suffering from metabolic issues who don't even know it. The thing is, when we know about it, we can do something about it and that is where Continous Glucose Monitoring as a tool to manage metabolic health can make a huge difference to your overall health and lifespan.
Paul spent twenty-five years in the ER , and now he's helping patients avoid the medical conditions that cause ER visits in the first place.
Paul is an ER doc turned metabolic health specialist, Board Certified in both Emergency Medicine and Preventive Medicine. He has a thriving practice helping patients prevent and reverse disease: obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, prediabetes, fatty liver disease, GERD, etc., etc., etc.
His secret weapon is the continuous glucose monitor (CGM). CGMs – those devices that provide 24/7 blood glucose readings, are not just for diabetics anymore!
Paul believes in CGMs for weight loss and better health so much that he wrote a book about it:
The Continuous Glucose Monitor Revolution ... For Nondiabetics.
In the book he covers a lot: CGMs, insulin resistance, low carb and keto, intermittent fasting, even the new FDA-approved weight loss medications like Ozempic.

Bea Calliet joins us from France. She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, called ankylosing spondylitis, in February 2007. After almost 11 years of taking a lot of strong painkillers she decided to try healing myself naturally.
One thing led to another, she went to a functional medicine doctor who told her she had to go “gluten and many other things” free. A little over a year on this diet and she quit taking biotherapy and about 9 months later she was off all medication!
But along the way, she also learnt that diet alone is not enough. Healing naturally is much more than just diet.
That’s why in January 2020, she started her blog “Go Healthy With Bea” where she shares both her autoimmune story and her gluten free recipes in order to help people on their own natural healing journey.
A year and a half after creating my blog, she decided to go one step further by becoming an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Certified Gluten free Practitioner and get a Certificate in plant-based patisserie at Le Cordon Bleu London in order to transform a side hustle into a whole career change.

In his “spare time” he established a microbiological environmental testing laboratory. John’s particular areas of interest are antimicrobial resistance and emerging bacterial infectious diseases.

In Episode 18 of Wellness for the Rest of Us we speak with Laura Crandon, the Founder and President of Charitable organisation Touch4Life.
Laura is a breast cancer survivor on a mission to increase the breast health IQ of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) and underserved communities.
In our podcast we speak about the everyday inequities which exist in our health systems, globally and how knowing what to ask and who to ask for support can quite literally, save your life.
As a charitable foundation, Touch4Life has a two-pronged focus to ensure that physicians deliver the breast healthcare that Black and BIPOC women need and that women know and advocate for the breast health that they deserve.
Raised in Temple Hills, MD, and a lifelong MD resident, Laura recognised the disparities in breast cancer detection, treatment and survivorship that exist for Black and brown women in the United States–dying at a 41% higher rate than white women and determined to change that statistic. Sadly racial inequities in health systems exist in New Zealand and many other countries too.
Laura has been a healthcare executive at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and UnitedHealthcare for over 15 years, she has served as a member of the Duke University Fuqua School of Business Healthcare Alumni Advisory Board, a certified financial officer of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Chair of the Health and Human Services Facet of The Columbia (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Member and Ambassador of United Way of Central Maryland Executive Council, Patient Advocate Advisory Board Member at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Ambassador of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, and Certified American Cancer Society Health Equity Ambassador Link. She has been featured as a speaker at NIH, Johns Hopkins, and Duke, to bring a face to the disparity and advocate for inclusion and equitable health outcomes.
She is the proud mother of two adult sons and wife for almost 30 years to an awesome and supportive husband.

Finally, we discuss the fine line between doing things "naturally" and using pharmaceutical and modern medical tools available to us for our overall health.
Dr. Rosensweet is a world leader in female hormone therapy and continues to move the industry forward with his patented customised bio-identical hormone treatment approach. In this week's "Wellness for the Rest of Us Podcast" soon to be released, Darcy Schack and Dr Anna Campbell, Zestt Co-Founders, have a wide ranging discussion about some thorny topics - including OBESITY! When Darcy and Anna started Zestt they were well aware that neither of them were a "Poster Child" for wellness - that means, the battle is real for them, as it is for many of you. Darcy suffers from an autoimmune disease, sarcoidosis and COPD. Modern diets, combined with high stress, lack of sleep and lack of activity are combining to drive inflammation and chronic disease through the roof in our society. Do we need to be more blunt about our state of health, forcing ourselves to face up to it or do we need to do more to support people not to become unwell in the first place and to become well when they have walked paths which are not optimal? We would love your feedback on this one, how does it feel trying to make change in today's society? The interview Anna refers during the podcast (obesity section) is this one between Kim Hill and Stanford Professor Dr Fatima Cody: https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/saturday/audio/2018885380/dr-fatima-cody-stanford-obesity-vs-ozempic - it is well worth a listen. #obestitymatters #obesityepidemic #talkingaboutobesity #inflammation #ChronicDisease #diabetes #diabetesdiets #westerndiet
