  • Episode 5 and it's an important one! The Edit! Without the edit we have no show and often, despite the fact they hate the phrase, the edit really does often fix it in post.

Hosted by Ashley Golder, today's episode of TV Makers see's the talented and wonderful Helen Page who works as both a Series Producer and Edit Producer and for this episode, dives into how to run an edit suite and the trials of crafting a show.

Whether you're out on location filming, editing with an edit producer or wondering how to make that first step into an edit suite, this episode's for you.

As we move into the edit, there are some phrases or words that might need further explanation. Here's a small key to them!

EP - Edit Producer: SP - Series Producer: PD - Producer Director: Contrib - Contributor: Refers to individuals who appear on-screen and provide contributions to the program, typically members of the public rather than presenters.Cut - To cut the rushes: Refers to the process of selecting desired footage from the raw, unedited material and discarding the unwanted parts.Rushes - The raw footage that has been filmed.Sync Pull - Refers to the act of assembling a selection of rushes that contain synchronized audio (speech) in order to begin constructing the story.GV's - General Views: Shots that capture general or wide-angle views of locations, such as landscapes, houses, rivers, etc.Cutaways - Shots that are used to interrupt or break up the main footage, often used when mentioned in sync. For example, if an interviewee mentions something specific, a cutaway shot of that subject might be inserted. To Clear - Refers to the process of obtaining permission and securing the rights to use copyrighted material (such as music or archive footage) for broadcast. It also involves considering the cost implications of using the cleared media.

If you like what you hear, please Share, Rate and Subscribe - it's the best way to support the show and keep us going with more industry interviews.
